What are you reading right now?
I didn't know Dante had a myspace::DarkHeart i noticed your avitar :):: and then his wings turned black:: i'm an angel (all sorts of angels fan) as you can probably tell::thats one of the reasons i love these books::besides of course the story and the way they're written:: angel and vamps:: OMG hot mixture going on there::also love luciens wings not being feathers::
I've been trying over the past week to read Nightkeepers. The premise is so terrific: a group of Mayan warriors are preparing themselves to fight the released demons that accompany the Mayan apocalypse that's fast approaching. You'd think place of win, but not for me. I've had several attempts at this, and it's just not pushing any buttons.
Ah A Rush of Wings, when will you be delivered unto me.

My son was literally days old when I read this the first time, I was teary enough without it! Not the best choice in books but I had been waiting for years for it!
Lori, Nichole and DarkHeart: Stav seems to have joined the revolution. As DarkHeart said, all people must love Adrian Pheonix!I've written to her here on GR and she was very gracious and sweet-and replied VERY fast.
My copy of In the Blood came yesterday! Whoo hoo!
I can't believe all you people who read Acheron totally out of order. BAD readers! Tut tut tut...
And Stav, most of the yummy men in all of these books are mysteriously independently wealthy. Yet ANOTHER reason they need to be real and arrive on my doorstep NOW.
::glances at door expectantly::
::peeks out window::
::sigh::

I'm convinced::they ::are::out::there::somewhere:: its just knowing where to find them:: Re Acheron:: i'm sorry I really am::just didn't know anything about the series::and if some bimbo (she wasn't a GR bod) says you can read it as a stand alone then........well::
ok, I know I mentioned it yesterday a few times, but, I just finished A Rush of Wings and it was SOOOO GOOD....so if you have not read it yet, please get a copy and do so (thats not a request by the way)and now, finally, am about to start Acheron
:)
You are excused then Adrienne, just this once. Lol.
Moss: I have a habit of reading the first few pages of a book in the store when it's an author I haven't read before. The Mayan apocalypse idea sounded interesting, but there was something about year writing that put me off and made me leave it on the shelf.
Sorry! But you will soon have A Rush of Wings and will be happily ensconced with vampires and serial killers. How pleasant it will be!
My copy of *In the Blood* arrived on thursday::i'm all tied up with other books at the moment tho'::want to savour Dante, Von,and Luc::so wil mostly likely read it after i've finished *Kiss of Midnight* which is my *pick it for me*for April:: My *to read shelf*is chokablok with stuff i've either bought or have on loan from library::library ones need to be read as they're nearly all Dark Hunter/Lords of Avalon (kenyon writing as????? OMG forgotten who her other name...ooops)
Yay, Stav! I told ya I told ya! Now, what else can I get you to read.... Enjoy Acheron! Keep your sister's mitts off it!

Great story and helps explain all the pantheons and gods and goddesses better than the Dark Hunter stories did.
Finished Mona Lisa Craving A Novel of the Monere last night. This was my favorite so far. I loved Dante...man that boy knows how to please a woman. The whole pressing on the soul of her foot...wow...so sexy.Today I'm going to start Blood Bound. I enjoyed the first book in this series even though it's really more UF than PNR. My library has these books in the YA section which I found very interesting.

hehe yep yep, I can't wait, am getting Dante fever. You guys keep going on about him, and it's making me impatient.
Oh and meanwhile, I've just noticed how many Dantes there are around. Counting three so far: Lilith S/C's Dante Valentine, Adrian Phoneix's Dante, and a new Dante from Sunny (whose author pic is fierce--go check it out, she's a tiger).

Whoa, Moss. She looks like she'd gobble up little children and suck the bones dry. And the veritable mane of hair!

Heh. I like it actually--she's totally rockin that red lipstick. She looks like she'd write some pretty fiery characters.

I'm finishing up LKH's first Meredith Gentry book. Definitely a great book, I'm surprised it's taken me so long to read it.I'm going to the library to hopefully find the next in the series.
Merry Gentry! Sticking to my fixation on moody men, my favorite is Frost. I find the Unseelie Court fascinating in that series. And it actually got me choked up in parts, which is somewhat of a miracle for me.
I haven't read the Midnight Breed series yet Yz, but it's on order and I'm really looking forward to it.
Dantes Count: 4. Anyone got any more?
Just finished the second book in the Morganville Vamps series: The Dead Girls' Dance. I'm really liking this series--the writing is tight and well-paced, the plots in the two books I've read have been well-structured, and the characters are adorable. You really get to see how much skill it takes to write a good YA book when you read Rachel Caine, IMO. She mixes terror and romance and vamps and midwestern landscape bleak into one big pile and comes out with a really well-crafted book. Kudos!

Whew, Stav, A Rush of Wings followed up by Acheron? You are in book heaven! Two of my favorites right there.I'm starting The Nymphos of Rocky Flats today, having just finished Red-Headed Stepchild (which was excellent, btw).
Moss wrote: "...Just finished the second book in the Morganvill..."That's a great review of the series, Moss. I think it's a wonderful series. I really care about Clare, Shane, Eve and Michael and was constantly worried about them as I read (especially Shane). She writes the characters with real flaws and insecurities. Paranormal issues aside, they are believable characters that you'd have wanted to have been friends with when you were 18.
I have read all the Dark Series and just loved them haven't read any of her others yet. I am currently reading Devil May Cry - Dark Hunter Series by Kresley Cole which I read the one previous to this one but haven't read the others. I am so far about 1/3 into it and really like it. Hubby just got me a Kindle so can't wait to get them all on there. I really like this writer as I said until the next Christine Feehan book comes out I will probably stick to her unless I finish them.
Also waiting on Charlaine Harris Book 9 of Southern Vampire series...
Lori wrote: "I have finally started the 8th Sookie Stackhouse book. I tried to buy it off half.com and there was this whole issue with the person not sending me the book and I filed a complaint and never heard ..."That is a great book I can't wait till May when the 9th book is to be released. I already have the Trueblood series preordered which I haven't seen yet. I am curious to see if they followed the book.
DarkHeart and Moss, I just read the Morganville story in Many Bloody Returns. It's backstory on how Eve ended up at the Glass House and was rather intense, with Brandon and her parents being on the scene. It's a good addition that I didn't even realize existed. As for the rest of the series, I think it's awesome too-my favorite is madcap Myrnin.

The story is actually by Sherrilyn Kenyon and I agree with you, it's fabulous!
Michelle M. wrote: "DarkHeart and Moss, I just read the Morganville story in Many Bloody Returns..."Ooh, didn't know that was out there. Have added it to my "to buy" list. Thanks for the heads up!
Most of the stories in the anthology are pretty well written-there were only a few I didn't like, and most of them were because I don't read the series they were based on. There's a Sookie story, as well as a Dresden tale, and one with Henry(?) from Tanya Huff's Blood Ties.
Good morning, all. I started Jessica Anderson's Nightkeepers and cannot put it down. Rather than incorporating the tried and true Greek, Roman and/or Nordic pantheon, this opened up and entirely new mythos for me: Mayan magic, demons and teleportation (along with the romance) - it's got it all.Welcome to the world of the Mayan Long Count calendar and a book that grabs you on page one (okay, maybe page 5) and doesn't let go. Book 2, Dawnkeepers, is out now and Book 3 is slated for release in August, I believe.
Enjoy!
Dark Heart, yes... I am in Book Heaven... I keep going out expecting/hoping to bump into some sort of goth god...::sigh::
I loved A Rush of Wings (I think I'm going to buy In the Blood this week).
Acheron is good, but I can only say I like it so far, don't just love it yet...maybe cause I keep getting so angry with certain characters (must remember its just a book)... I'm going to read the Nymphos book this month too...it looks pretty hilarious actually, which should be a nice change of pace.
Moss, yeah to the Dantes!...
one more Dante is in Karen Chance's Cassie Palmer Series...except he's an incubus who runs the casino...not a central figure to the series, but another Dante never-the-less...
still, nothing like Dante Baptiste....::sigh::
Finished book 8 of Sookie Stackhouse. I can hardly wait for book 9. I read the first chapter on Charlaine's website and it just made me more impatient.
I also listed to the audio book of Beyond the Highland Mist by Karen Moning. I'm not sure that I'm an audio book person, although this is my first one, so it may just take some getting used to. The story was good. I wouldn't say it was great. The main female character was annoying me to no end with her "I hate beutiful men" b.s. It just got to be a bit too much.
So, now I am at a complete loss as to what to read next. I am basically waiting for Sookie book 9 and BDB Rhev's story. I don't have any other started series, other than now the Highlander series. Im in some kind of hellish book limbo.

Another Dante is Greyson Dante from Stacia Kane's Personal Demons. He gets referred to as both Greyson and Dante, so I reckon it counts. ;)

Popular name eh?
Dantes count: 6
We should have a Dante-off. Set them up against each other, best Dante is the one that comes out alive. And maybe also naked.

If they were all naked, I don't know if they'd make it out alive.We'd exhaust them long before they had a chance to face off.
Um, I already know who wins this competition. I can even provide evidence, but I don't want to ruin anything for anyone. :)

Whoa really? There's a Dante-off happening somewhere right now? Spill it woman.

I'm pretty sure Michelle M. already knows what I know. Moss, I can't remember if you've read the book I'm thinking of yet.But I'll just go ahead and say Dante Baptiste from Adrian Phoenix's books wins. Depending on what criteria you're using to determine the winner, this could just be subjective. (I think he's the YUMMIEST and the coolest and the torturedest and the sweetest, pretty much the everythingest.)
However, if you're going by who could kick whose ass, I know for SURE that he would win and anyone else who's read both books should also feel the same. :)
Hear, hear! Oh, the puddles of enemies. And yes, I give him "-est" status, too. (And here I thought there were nakie pictures somewhere that I'd missed out on!)

Oh, oops! Nope, those are just in my head.
You haven't read In The Blood yet? This is unacceptable. Hop to, missy.
I'm currently listening to Wintersmith A Discworld Novel - finished 4 cds today while home sick and also reading an ARC copy of Storm Glass.
I know! It's here, I got it last week. But I have all these library books I'm trying to get through and return before I start back on books I own. All my reserves came in at once and I'm buried!
I hear you on that Michelle... I've had some Kenyon and Ward books sitting on my shelf for a while now... needing to be read.. but then I just ignore them and keep getting books from the library.. it's quite an addiction.
Kristen, it's terrible! Even though I want to read them-I reserved them after all-the others are beckoning to me. I want to read everything at once!I'm reading Gil's All Fright Diner right now. If you like Pratchett, you may like Martinez. He has another book, In the Company of Ogres, that was quite amusing...complete with a character much like Mrs. Cake! I haven't read the Tiffany and Wee Free Men books...how are you liking Wintersmith?
I just finished If Angels Burn A Novel of the Darkyn by Lynn Viehl. Astonishingly good. Definitely not a PNR, but the world is so compelling, and the writing so dark and ferocious and delicious that I didn't care. I have to say though, that this was a book I enjoyed for the concept and the structure--the h/h relationship left me almost completely cold. And I'll be having words with Michael Cyprien over on the Who Inspires Your Wrath thread.
Also finished Cry Wolf by Patricia Briggs. Terrific. It was a lucky find on a library shelf so unfortunately I've started second book in, but I don't really care. I've never read Briggs, and ah, what rock have I been hiding under? The writing was controlled and deft, the story arc was very very good, the h/h relationship, okay, was not primary as such, but still skillfully handled. I love--LOVE--Bran. Fabulous, can't wait to read more.
And last but not least, I finished The Iron Hunt by Marjorie M. Liu today. It was pretty good. Very complex, dense writing, very complex, dense world-creating. It wasn't a huge book, so it was a lot to take in but I enjoyed it for what it was. Hunter is channeling just the teensiest, eensiest bit of Dante Valentine self-loathing in this one; it is my fervent and fevered hope that that particular fork in her personality comes to a dead end soon.
And ah-ha, what do we have here? Why I do believe it's a special afternoon post delivery of .....(weeha!).....A Rush of Wings Book One of The Maker's Song. Felice navidad!

I think that's very reasonable.
I hope she does come to goodreads. She gets a lot of love around here!
