What are you reading right now?

Half-way done with [bookcover:The Dragon Who Loved Me|963..."
You're too funny, don't mean to make you nervous. I do get too engrossed in my read, got to expressive and opinionated, lol. Hope I didn't give away any spoilers though.
How would you compare both highlander series by KMM and Maya Banks. I know we both have a special place for KMM's highlanders but I can always find room for more highlanders.

Thanks Nichole, I have the feeling I would agree with you bc KMM have established such phenomenal repore with her writing. That said, Maya Banks have her own nitch, beating her own drum and I'm falling for it too.

I have to say this is probably the most well handled love triangle I've ever read. When Mercy finally makes her choice, however you may feel personally about the two men, you can understand why she chooses who she does. She actually thinks it through in a mature fashion, rather than one of these "when I was about to die, all I could think of was you" or "when I thought you were gone, that's when I realized it's you that I love you". Oh, that just irritates me.

WARNING SPOILERS
I see your point, but I dont want her to pick Sam just because he needs her for babies. She should be with Adam! Adam as a MAN loves her!
But don't tell me who it is!

I really loved this book, it's so much more sophisticated than the Twilight Series"
I totally agree!! The Host was way better than Twilight -- and I loved Twilight. I like that you called it "more sophisticated". You're right, that's exactly what it is. I think Stephanie Meyer has said that she wrote it for an adult audience, whereas Twilight was written for YA. The characters are still young-ish, but the whole thing reads more mature. I really loved it.

Nicole R.D. I'm glad you also feel the same way about Maya Banks vs. KMM!
Anyways, I just finished

I've read and loved Blood Law and Enemy Mine. Waiting patiently for the next reads. I know I'll love her Blood Sword series due to her rich plots and captivating characters.

Next to devour since they are next due back to the library,

I haven't started it yet but I know what you mean all too well (And it's Pepto pink)

Then I am going to read

Yes, the cover is a little garish.
I understand that it ends in a cliffhanger so I'm kind of ambivalent about reading it.

A cliffhanger?! Really!?! Well, depending upon the height of the cliff, I'll be okay. I let you know what I think when I finish.

What did you think of the others in the series, I picked them up at a flea market and am having trouble getting through the first one...any thoughts?

I haven't started it yet but ..."
Since you already own them, it might be worth trying to get through the first one or two. But if you're really struggling with the first, I don't think you'll really be missing much if you give up. Honestly, it's just an okay series for me. I like the concept of a group of warriors that each shift into a different animal, and I like the strong sense of brotherhood they have for one another. But there are things lacking in the writing that keep it from being a great series for me. For instance, six books in now and we have yet to learn why the female lead from the first book ended up being raised as human away from the rest of the immortals. And she doesn't seem the least bit curious about why or who her family really is. Meanwhile, it's driving me crazy and I keep reading hoping I'll finally find out. Plus there is usually some weird sexual hang-up or related issue in each book. Sometimes it works, sometimes it really doesn't. But again, that's just my honest opinion.
And man, do I dislike the most recent cover. What were they smoking and where can I get some?

I'm glad to hear you like it. I picked the first two up based solely on absolutely loving the covers, so it's nice to know the story is good too.

I haven't start..."
I do already have them and i will get to it at some point. You're wondering what they are smoking and I'm wondering what picture they have on him that is worse than that one I mean how much and who does he owe?

Hey Magda! I see that you're read..."
I have read both series. I just finished the entire Bank's McCabe trilogy and I thoroughly enjoyed it, but I have to say that KMM's Highlanders are much better. Moning is more fantasy and Banks is strictly historical. The writing between the two series are so different. KMM has a poetic style of writing that sweeps you into her Highlander world. I am glad you read Banks first because if you read Moning first you will compare the two series and you should not. They are totally different types. They just happen to have Highlanders.

You will like Banks Highlanders. Her series is more historical whereas Moning is more fantasy. Of course I have a special place for Moning. She will always be top dog for Highlanders but I really enjoyed Banks.
I am waiting for Holiday in Death on audio. I swear I am addicted to the audio version of her books.

That's funny. I just got it:) I'm slow.

@Katie - I'm enjoying the series. It isn't the best I've ever read but I like the mythology and the symbolism (it's the academic in me). Actually, the first one is still my favorite.
@Christine - I completely agree. There are a few glaring plot holes and Kara's background is one of them.

KMM is in my top five fave authors, so I may be biased. Her Highlander series is great because it has so many different genres. Time travel, paranormal, a bit of contemporary, historical...though I guess if there is time travel it sort of leads to more. But then it also ties in so neatly to her UF/pnr Fever series. Talk about a multifaceted world!
I'm getting ready to read the last of Maya Banks Highlander Trilogy. It's good, but I was expecting mind blowing due to the ratings and raves. I think if I compare anything to KMM, it will fall short.
