I just finished it. I agree with you though, I pprefer the Dark Hunter books and I've not really found a Dream Hunter one I've liked. I will say this was probably the best of a bad lot. Most of it I seen coming a mile away!

I weighed up the pro's and con's and decided to but a netbook (mini laptop) instead. By the time I added up all the extra's for the reader (including a light) it was more cost effective for me. My friend has the Sony one and it doesn't support the file types that the majority of my eBooks are in.

Where do you buy most of your eBooks? I found Waterstone's where wanting over twelve pounds for Every which way but dead! It's not even a new book!

message 1603: by Teresa (new)

Teresa (teresadamario) | 95 comments Well, I buy according to the book - alot of ebooks I buy from the publishers, like Samhain, Freyas Bower, and such. But those are importable into the Kindle, as they come in PDF form. But on Amazon, most of the ones that are in the KIndle home format, are the same price as the books themselves. Apparently Amazon also gives away some too. I found 3 romances today in their list that I intend to download right a way and read at my leisure, because they are free and what I would like to read. One is a "when I get the time" type of read, while the others are awesome. Wish I'd waited on a few though - because they are listed free as well and I'd already bought them ,but haven't read them yet!

But yeah, the major print publishers are not all offering books in ebook with the right "concept". They are slowly learning that people refuse to pay MORE for an ebook than a print one. Some actually believe the publishers did this to prove to their bosses ebooks wouldn't work.

"See? we tried ebooks and nobody would buy them." Just because we sold them at twice the price had nothing to do with that failure.

Then they go about their merry way selling only print books. I don't know if that's true or not. All I know is some publishers are charging way too much for ebooks. But they are learning! Slowly but surely! The publishing industry moves very slowly. Not just in this matter, but many others. I'm thinking in about 20 years they will be caught up to where we think they should be today. :D Course, then they'll be 20 years behind again!

I'm not sure what it would take to totally update the publishing industry. It's bogged down in trying to sort out the millions of royalties that come through them, trying to guess ahead of time what people will read (and sometimes failing... I find myself periodically with nothing to read because the wrong kind of books are coming out), and keeping ahead of the financial curve.

One good thing about publishing - Romance is always going to be big. Especially now, in a time when people want to feel happy and are struggling in their daily lives. It's the romance author's job to make people feel all warm and fuzzy inside, and as long as we keep doing that, people will buy, and as long as people buy, the publishing industry will watch! :)

Ok, forgive the rambles. Been doing that all day. Just talk talk talk about nothing. :) Going to shut up and go read Passion Unleashed. I KNOW this book is gonna be good. :D And it's a keeper for my keeper shelf already!

I don't have an actual kindle or other ereader, but if you happen to have an iphone (which I do) there is a kindle app you can get for it. It is obviously not as nice as a kindle, because it is small. The thing I like about it is that I can get the free previews from Amazon, which is usually the first few chapters of a book, so I know what I'm getting into before buying the book. I also like to download anthologies, because if I'm in a waiting room or something, I can get in a quick short story. Other than that, I still love all those lovely books lined up on my real shelf, which is why I can't see buying an actual ereader. But, the iphone kindle app is free and its great for what I use it for.
As for reads right now....I am really supposed to be finishing up my research proposal, because book 8 of Sookie Stackhouse finally came in and I can't wait to have me some Eric....Mmmmm....Vikings!

Lori (moderatrixlori) Today I finished Nicholas...so HOT...and Drawn Together...my favorite kind of "gay for you story"...and am starting Mona Lisa Craving A Novel of the Monere tonight.

Dawn (dawnv) | 320 comments For ebooks I have only purchased a few and they were in a bundles at any rate I liked diesel-ebooks.com. For example the entire Nightwalkers series which I think has 5 books is like $21 so for basically $4.20 a book you cannot beat that I am not sure if it is the same now but when I brought the Darkest bundle by Gena Showalter I think that was like $15 for all of them. I just need this whole e thing to be cost effective.

BTW did you all know you can get free harlequinn books?

message 1609: by Teresa (new)

Teresa (teresadamario) | 95 comments Yep, read some of those free harlequins. They are in celebration of their anniversary. :)

WEll the power went out tonite and for the first time I read a book by LANTERN. LOL. I'd say I went back in time, but it was a battery powered one. LOL.

I'm thinking about writing a review for this one, and if so, it'll show up on my blog soon and I'll post the link here. To let you know, it was Larissa Ione's Passion Unleashed... which is the BEST of her demonica series so far! Wow!!! I'm at a loss right now.

That and it's 12:35 at nite. LOL.

No, I won't tell. But I loved it. Loved it.

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1593 comments Moss is feeling the love! The rage has dissipated!

Does that mean I have to start a thread called The Warm and Fuzzies: Characters you just want to hug?

Actually, I could see that quickly turning into a porn-tastic thread with ya'll...as "hug" led to a lil sumtin sumtin more.

message 1612: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1593 comments Teresa, a lantern? Lol. Oh, you dedicated reader, you. Nothing comes between you and your PNR-a round of applause is warranted, I believe!

That reminds me, I need batteries! Thanks!

message 1613: by [deleted user] (new)

I am feeling the love allll over, hombre. I've just finished The Wild Road by Marjorie Liu. Quite apart from how super rockin exquisitely fabulous and neato this book was, I have also girl-crushed on Marjorie in the biggest way. She is so pretty, and her hair is so pretty and her writing is so pretty. The book was great, truly. I can't believe I've never read her before. And she's so prolific! A match made in heaven.

message 1614: by Teresa (new)

Teresa (teresadamario) | 95 comments LOL Michelle.

Yeah, nothing comes between me and a PNR I wanna read! Hubby came in and shook his head at me. LOL. But the lantern was one of the best ones you can get. It puts out ALMOST as much as a bedside lamp does. :)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1593 comments Moss, it looks like she has four different series?

Which do you like best or suggest for an intro to her writing?

Ah I dunno, the book I just read was the very first, although I have another book of her's (in a diff. series) as part of my April challenge. I loved the one I read, but I think it's like eighth in the series (Dirk & Steele), so maybe the first one is the logical place to start?

Or maybe another informed M.Liu reader on here can be more helpful than I'm being.

Michelle (michelle_mc) | 371 comments Today I'm reading Keri Arthur's Lifemate connections: Eryn. I'm halfway through now and although it's not as good as the Riley Jensen series I am enjoying it, well it's starting to get interesting anyway.
I will say all of Keri's weres are very free with their affections! lol... It was the same in the Ripple Creek one's too.

I am glad that Phoenix is only 2 books into this series, otherwise I'd probably never leave my house till like May or even June perhaps

message 1622: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (michelle_mc) | 371 comments I finished the Keri Arthur book and followed it up with One bite with a stranger by Christine Warren. I did like it, think I'll read the rest of the series (I'm going to follow the official reading order, so I don't get confused!)
I'm doing well in the April challenge 4down, 5 to go. Although I could have counted the Christine warren one - didn't realise I had that one as it was originally called Fantasy Fix. I hate when they do that!

message 1623: by Teresa (new)

Teresa (teresadamario) | 95 comments I really enjoy Christine's series, though I haven't read One bite yet... mostly because I haven't had time. I found her through a friend, and love her stuff.

I loved Valek, and Ari and Jenko, too.

message 1626: by [deleted user] (new)

I have finally started the 8th Sookie Stackhouse book. I tried to buy it off half.com and there was this whole issue with the person not sending me the book and I filed a complaint and never heard anything back and got too anxious and went and picked it up at Amazon. So, my viking and I are finally reunited. Yay! Mmmm....Eric.

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish GoodReads is giving me fits this morning!

Ok, somewhere I posted about Arik and Megeara's story, and even though it was a Dream Hunter book, it plays a huge part in Acheron.

If this is a repeat, I apologize, but I keep getting weird page error messages and my posts aren't posting. I don't even know if this was the same thread I tried to post it in earlier.

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish The first part of Acheron starts with his birth and childhood.... then leads to present day. So many of the things that were implied in the previous books are more than resolved and answered in Acheron.

LOL, I'm sure Adrian's loving this (while she's working hard on finishing up book 3 - Beneath the Skin). When I invited her to GoodReads, I offered to relenquish my avatar (as it's her interpretation of Dante from his MySpace page).
