Dawn (dawnv) | 320 comments I finished Megans Mark by Lora Leigh and when I brought it on Amazon it said it was book 1 of the breeds but I cannot help but to feel like there was something before that explained about the breed suffering thing. Does anyone know the proper order of reading these books? On her website she says the books can be read in any order, but I am kind of OCD about reading books in order.

Dawn,

I bought Megan's Mark like a year ago, thinking it was the first of the series, only to discover it wasn't. Some of the early breed books were originally available in e-books only from Ellora's Cave, and I think Megan's Mark was the first book published with a different publisher.

Here is the order I have for the Breed Chronicles:

1. Tempting the Beast
2. The Man Within
3. Elizabeth's Wolf
4. Kiss of Heat
5. Soul Deep
6. "The Breed Next Door" Hotspell (anthology)
7. Megan's Mark
8. Harmony's Way
9. Tanner's Scheme
10 "Wolfe's Hope" Primal Heat (anthology)
11. Jacob's Faith
12. Aiden's Charity
13. "In A Wolf's Embrace" Beyond the Dark (anthology)
14. Dawn's Awakening
15. "Jaguar's Kiss" Shifter (anthology)
16. Mercury's War
17. "Christmas Heat" Magical Christmas Cat (anthology)
18. Coyote's Mate

I think that is all of it. I have to admit I have only read Megan's Mark and Harmony's Way. I'm trying to get the early books, but they are not cheap, and my library don't carry them, but I really like the stories, even though they can be very dark.

Dawn,
Does your library have the request area ? My library doesn't carry a third of the books I want and most of the time there will be a trilogy I am reading and they have only 1 & 2. (go figure)Anyway, when I go on my library's web site they have links and one says "Request a purchase". I have actually requested they purchase at least 15 books so far. lol They buy or borrow them. When they buy them it just takes about a month. But it's worth a try. :)

message 1106: by Lori (new)

Lori (moderatrixlori) Started The Smoke Thief last night and really like it so far. For some reason I kept passing this one up and it's been on my shelf for awhile. I think I was a little unsure about the whole dragon shifter thing but the story has drawn me in and I'm enjoying it a lot.

message 1107: by Amy (new)

Amy | 24 comments I finished 'A Thousand Splendid Sun' and 'Ink Exchange' over the weekend. Great books!!!

I plan to start 'Water for Elephant' and pick up 'Fae Fever' from the library today.

I loved The Smoke Thief and the next two books in the series. I don't read historicals, I love sexy erotic contemporaries but these books are so lyrical, they just drag you under with them.

message 1109: by new_user (new)

new_user | 1389 comments I loved that book too. I think it's one of the few historical paranormals that I've liked so far. Very appealing characters and the writing style is pretty without becoming wordy (as you can tell by the page count, LOL). She leaves out the unnecessary.

message 1110: by Malena (new)

Malena (badgalmalmal) I've started reading Bitten by Kelley Armstrong. I'm enjoying the werewolve perspective. It's a change from vampires.

DarkHeart "Vehngeance" (darkheart) | 737 comments Love, love, love Bitten and Stolen. Elena and Clay (sigh...) - brilliant! I really must get back to that series just so I can get back to another Clay and Elena story.

Shana Abe is like my favorite author ever. I love the way she writes. I read Smoke Thief as part of a contest I was judging years ago and loved it. Now I can't wait for her books. She's one of the few authors I have on "auto-buy". I just saw she has a new book coming out and I've already pre-ordered. Can't wait!

message 1116: by Nichole (DirrtyH) (last edited Mar 03, 2009 11:19AM) (new)

Nichole (DirrtyH) (dirtyh) I'm listening to the Darkfever audiobook.
I had started reading this book last summer, but I think I just wasn't in the right place for it; I was wanting a romance, which this isn't, and was also going through kind of a crappy time in my life so I think that's why I didn't like it.
I'm liking the story a lot better this time around, but I really don't like the narrator. She's way too old to play Mac, and though I get that Mac is from Georgia, she just sounds way too southern. I also get that Mac is kind of young and naive, but the narrator makes her seem overly ditzy and dumb and very Scarlett O'Hara "Why I do declare!" (IMO.)
And apparently every person in Ireland talks like a Scottish bridge troll. I especially hate the way she reads Barrons... he's supposed to be dark and sexy and mysterious. Instead I just think of Gimli from Lord of the Rings...

message 1117: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (dawnv) | 320 comments Funny how a reader can make or break a book!

DarkHeart "Vehngeance" (darkheart) | 737 comments Nichole wrote: "I'm listening to the Darkfever audiobook..."

LMAO! Right... I'm going to make a mental note to keep that one off my audible list. I too have the book, started it and then put it aside. I will go back to it, but there were other books that were drawing me in more at the time.

DarkHeart "Vehngeance" (darkheart) | 737 comments Still on my YA kick, I finished the House of Night books this morning, and have pre-ordered the book due out next week (hardback!? sigh...). After my initial reservations, I found myself quite enjoying it - if for no other reason than to see what stupid decision Zoey was going to make next. ;) I'm now working my way through the Morganville Vamps. I'm only on book 2, The Dead Girls' Dance, but I'm really enjoying this series so far. Shane is yummy!

CJ - It's only a Paper Moon (bookewyrm) | 57 comments I'm readind Solstice Wood by Patricia McKillop. So far, it reminds me of Charles de Lint's Wild Wood

message 1121: by Kristen (new)

Kristen Harvey I just finished The Hollow Kingdom which is the start of a great trilogy that involves a goblin trying to steal a young human woman for his bride. Even though it was not explicit at all, I ate it up. I'm currently working through Tender Morsels which I'm not sure what to think of at this point. There's already overtly incestual themes, but I hope it gets better and develops a plot of its own. The author's style is very different from what I've read lately and I think once I'm more into the book, I will enjoy it more.

message 1122: by [deleted user] (new)

I just finished Visions of Heat by Nalini Singh, and it was terrific. I really enjoyed how well she constructed the female lead, and how it wasn't just a huge alpha male shapeshifter book (though the bits that were like that were YUMMY). I went straight to my library website and--you'll never believe it-- they have every other book of the series except the first one! What kind of logic is that I ask you? Sigh. So I'll have to try and buy it one way or the other which is bumming me out, because I don't intend buying the other ones, and having just one book of the series is just no way to live at all.

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1593 comments DarkHeart, I enjoyed Morganville vamps. I'm up to date and the stories keep getting better! It's a nice twist on the usual vamp story.

My only issue with Caine is I feel as though I'm reading one single novel in spaced out segments-which I suppose is what she wants since she loves her cliff-hanger endings.

Don't you just want to bitch-slap Monica?!

message 1126: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1593 comments Just finished J.D. Robb's Naked in Death as one of my choices in the March reading challenge. It's dark, gritty and suspenseful. And there's a black-haired, blue-eyed, shady Irishman...how could I not approve?

I'm definitely going to continue with the series-with something like 28(?) books already in print, that should last me a few weeks!

I'm wrapped up in readings for class; just finished Skellig by David Almond (and if you're into YA lit, OMG READ THIS BOOK. It was amazing.), in the middle of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, and forcing myself to read the boring composition stuff that I'm teaching.

And sitting on my bookshelf, waiting for me, are Blue Diablo, Bone Crossed, and Desire Unchained.

*sob*

Can you put the request in for your library? Sometimes, the book is lost and they never replaced them. I'm still waiting for the first book for BDB to start the series. My library has all other books except the first one so they are ordering them for me. (well, not just for me but for the library per my request.. :P )

I was like this with the BDB too I wonder if that says something about me?

Jess,

I haven't read Dorian's book yet, although its in my March Challenge list. I just finished reading the novella Beat to Temptation which is Nate and Tamsyn's story. As usual she did not diaappoint. It's in the anthology An Enchanted Season.

Carol (lucky47) | 5 comments I am finishing up A Visit From Sir Nicholas by Victoria Alexander. I love this story. I have found myself laughing out loud numerous times throughtout. Then crying the next. The love scenes are hot as well. I didn't expect it to be so good but I love it.

I definitely agree. The fact that the timeline is so close together also leaves you feeling it's just one big adventure broken up into book sized chapters (similar to the House of Night series in that respect). They're really good though, so I'm enjoying it. Plus I bought the first for and am reading them back to back, so I'm not yet suffering from cliff-hanger syndrome (like I am after the last Vampire Acadeny book - Dimitri!), but I'm sure it's coming. I like the way she's evolving the characters and look forward to seeing what trouble they get themselves into in Midnight Alley. And yes - Monica must suffer! =)

DarkHeart "Vehngeance" (darkheart) | 737 comments Erin wrote: "DarkHeart, have you read the Everworld books?.."

Ohh I have to read that one.. I would love to know more about nate and Tasmyn. I bought the books through my kindle, which didn't have the first book available.. so I didn't realize I was missing one until I looked online. So I still have to go back and read the first one.

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1593 comments Hey, Dawn, didn't you say on another post that you were just starting Dark Hunter this week? Stav is one of the friends I got hooked (not the one with the disapproving hubby-can't convince THAT one to join GR yet).

And I remember you asking if you starting the series was going to be a problem-NOW you can see what I meant when I called them addictive. They're like pringles. Or crack.

Defintely crack.

No skipping to Ash! Bad Dawn! The others deserve your love too!

message 1141: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (dawnv) | 320 comments Michelle M yep that is me but I cannot believe how quickly I go through them. Currently I am waiting for the rude person at the library who is late returning Dance with the Devil . I am tempted to go a head and read Kiss of the Night while I wait, but I am totally OCD about reading books in order.

About Ash I just get more and more interested each book he is funny, I loved it in Night Embrace when he was holding Kyrian's baby and they were both sleep, I keep telling myself that if I did skip I would appreciate it because I would have missed to much. So I will savior my moments until I get there.

And yes this is totally like Crack but in a good way :>

Oh I would love to, but I've just gone over and above my book buying budget for a few months yet (I'm waiting for the Mammoth book of vampire romance--squee!-- to arrive, and have also bought a few DVDs), so le sigh. I cannot afford.

But. Peoples! I have just finished Master of Dragons by Angela Knight and although the cover was the NAFFEST thing I've seen since Borat in that green swim thing, the book just rocked. It was a little more playful than I was expecting, but whoo whee she can write a good old raunchy sex scene! Highly recommended for late night secret reading.

Teresa (teresadamario) | 95 comments I've been a bit "swamped" of late, but while travelling I read some good books. One was Jacqui Frank's newest, Terry Spear's newest, and the best of them all, Larrissa Ione's newest - Desire Unchained. Awesome book. Okay, they were all great, but Larissa's topped it for me. It's gritty, it's dark, it's sensual, and it's got action, adventure, and danger. Everything I LOVE in a paranormal.

Enjoy your reading.

DarkHeart "Vehngeance" (darkheart) | 737 comments Josephine wrote: "Dawn - I too love Kenyon and Ward's male leads. If you figure out what it means about you, let me know!..."

LOL, I think it just means we can appreciate a hot male when presented with one. I love that though they're all clearly alpha males, their women are strong as well and respected for that.

message 1147: by Lori (new)

Lori (moderatrixlori) Finished Smoke Thief. I really liked it and am looking forward to reading the rest of the series. It started to get a little "wordy" for me towards the end but I'm not a big fan of lots of description and flowery prose.

Started Soul Mates Bound by Blood and could hardly put it down last night. I immediately fell in love with the characters in this book and while some of the dialogue written for the 400+ year old vampire is a little stilted and stiff, I'm so caught up in the story that I just don't care. This is gay erotica and not everyone's cup of tea but I'm really enjoying it and looking forward to the rest of the series.

Hey Dawn,

what's BDB?

and yes...crack...omg...it completely is. All I keep thinking is I have to get to Barnes&Noble to stock up with the next few books, because what will I do if I finish the one I'm on now, and then I've got nothing to read for 24 hours...this is getting ridiculous almost...lol

I just started Dance with the Devil this morning...I wish I could get away with reading at my desk

Josephine (tyrrel) | 43 comments Stavroula, BDB stands for the Black Dagger Brotherhood, a vampire series by JR Ward. The brotherhood fights the forces of evil while being yummy, complicated, alpha males.

Enjoy Dance with the Devil! Not only is Zerek too sexy for words, it gives you a little insight into Ash. He's one of my favorite dark hunters.
