message 9604: by Crazy4more (new)

Crazy4more (lan-ni) | 3071 comments Thanks friends, I'll check out the audio for Naked in Death (In Death, #1) by J.D. Robb . It's Roarke's accent isn't it? What a good read, though I miss the magic of vampire blood to fix Eve's booboos, lol. Mystery is a new genre for me AND I'm sooo afraid for no HEA like my PNR reads. Yes, I'm one of those who only want HEA's, beautiful angels, hot vampires, awesome heroes & heroines & highlanders, etc. If I want sad reads, I can watch the news...

Next read is The Demon King (Seven Realms, #1) by Cinda Williams Chima .

message 9606: by Crazy4more (new)

Crazy4more (lan-ni) | 3071 comments I can't get into The Demon King (Seven Realms, #1) by Cinda Williams Chima , especially when I have The Immortal Highlander (Highlander, #6) by Karen Marie Moning and Spell of the Highlander (Highlander, #7) by Karen Marie Moning and Skin Game (Skin, #1) by Ava Gray to be picked up at the library.

I really liked Graceling and her second book FIRE was awesome too. They are stand lone books and don't really connect to each other.

Samantha Mullins (hixxup79) just finished Dead Witch Walking (Rachel Morgan/The Hollows, #1) by Kim Harrison a few hours ago, and now I am getting ready to read Dark Side of the Moon (Dark-Hunter, #9) (Were-Hunter, #4) by Sherrilyn Kenyon

message 9612: by Denise (new)

Denise (akaurora) | 59 comments What did you think of Dead Witch Walking?

I have read others in the series and I think they get better. I wasn't really into the first one. Too many references that were not explained about the culture.

message 9613: by Ronique (new)

Ronique | 1 comments I am between, Changeless (The Parasol Protectorate, #2) by Gail Carriger , and Barely Bewitched (Southern Witch, #2) by Kimberly Frost .

I might get though Barely Bewitched first, as that one is a bit more light-hearted. I like the characters in this series..all of them. It takes place in a small town in Texas and the main character is a witch who has dormant powers. She's also a pastry chef, which I love because I like to bake, too. She starts to tap into her power, whether she wants to or not, and a bunch of shenanigans occur as a result..because they always do. There's a bit of a love triangle between her ex-husband and the the wizard who volunteers to help her with her powers. It's a pretty cute story, all in all.

Crazy4more (lan-ni) | 3071 comments I'm dropping everything for No Mercy (Dark-Hunter, #19) (Were-Hunter, #6) by Sherrilyn Kenyon . It's a 7 day-loan from the library. Then onto my highlander series. Have a great weekend, I'm off with my books.

it was ok I liked it enough to keep reading the series, but I have read better books, but I also have read books worse than it.

message 9616: by Denise (new)

Denise (akaurora) | 59 comments I really thought the story line improved and you got a real handle on the culture and foes in the next books. She still seems reckless and makes it out of too many situations that James Bond would never live through but there's fantasy for ya!

Christine (christine007) I am waaaay behind the times (as PNR is new to me) but I started Guilty Pleasures last night and am loving it so far!

I was up much to late reading and can't wait to be done with work and dinner with my in-laws so I can snuggle up on my couch and read some more.

*Or, maybe it is considered urban fantasy, but either way...

message 9624: by Christine (new)

message 9631: by Christine (new)

Christine (christine007) I'm worried, though, because I've heard not-so-great things about some of the later books in the series. I'm a tad afraid to fall in love with the series only to have it suck later on down the line.

message 9632: by Samantha (new)

Samantha Mullins (hixxup79) I hear ya there i've heard it go both ways, and how I see it is, while other people's comments are great you just won't know until you try it yourself. :) I do the same with movies too.

Yes, I like it. It is a lot of action but not a lot or romance yet. I think it is coming though.

message 9642: by Jan (new)

Jan (janoda) Finished with Lovers and Beloveds and it was beautiful. I really disliked the main character in the beginning - teenage lustdriven stupidity isn't really my thing - but in good comeing of age fashion I caught myself loving him at the end.

It's a slow and subtle fantasy story with a very rich historical backstory. I was surprised by how much I loved it, but read through the night almost without noticing. Highly recommended.

Lovers and Beloveds by MeiLin Miranda
