I havent read MORTAL INSTRUMENTS or PERCY JACKSON yet.
I have to really soon!!!!!!
Oh, and i might be getting FRAGILE ETERNITY later tonight.
Yes, thats right-im prepared to continue the WICKED LOVELY SERIES, even after the monstrosity: INK EXCHANGE.
Well that was probably a little harsh-but im not enjoying it too much at all!!!

message 207: by ★ Jess (new)

★ Jess | 4295 comments Mod
In my opinion, Wicked Lovely is 1 billion times better. And I will read MORTAL INSTRUMENTS when after I finish: Gone and The Book Thief

message 208: by ★ Jess (new)

★ Jess | 4295 comments Mod
Awwww. I finish on Monday. Tuesday is the first day of school.
Which means we miss out on a maths and French lesson :D :D :D

But i still do *not* want to go back... *grumbles*

Oh, and i went to the uniform shop today to buy the winter uniform-The shirts are almost see through :S :S :S
So i have to wear my jumper every day.... Stupid school.

message 209: by ★ Jess (new)

★ Jess | 4295 comments Mod
I dont want to go back either. Its so hard to get back to school mode after 2 weeks of doing/wearing what you want. :'( And i cant read as much.

Our uniform is a light creme color shirt, and a dark green skirt. With a dark green jumper and a tie.
Amd the shirts are see though-so we have to wear jumpers.
And thats the girls uniform.
Yuck.

message 210: by ★ Jess (new)

★ Jess | 4295 comments Mod
I'll be lucky to get 4 pages read a night on school days :'(

And as for uniform policy... Its like our school is there to make us wear our uniform correctly-and education comes second.
No joke. They stop in the middle of lessons to make us all line up and inspect our uniform!!!
Andy they give boys detentions if their shirts are untucked.
They are obsessed with uniform!!!

Last year, teachers kept shouting at me when my skirt was above knee. (Fair enough) but i had stockings on as well, and i still got red cards (3 of them its a detention :S).
And they would do that in the middle of lessons. WE pay to go to school and learn, not have a lecture on how we look!!!

message 211: by ★ Jess (new)

★ Jess | 4295 comments Mod
Arrggghh!!!! I *hate* school uniform. What does it do? Classify us as a school? I think we know that when we enrolled there...

And that sounds weird! And unfair! I hate it when teachers only listen to one side of the story.

I have never got a detention, or a notification (half a detention)
I almost got a notification for 'not listening in maths class'
She was writing on the board, i decided i should copy it down in my book.
She look up, saw me not looking at the board (i was writing what to do in my book)
She asked me what to do next, i wasnt sure, and she held me in after class!!!!!
Thats unfair i say...

message 213: by ★ Jess (new)

★ Jess | 4295 comments Mod
Thats so unfair!!!! And yes, there are lots of people who always need to be moving their hand. Its not really playing with it, its more like... moving it in your hand-kinda un-intentionally...
I hate when teacher shout at you for that. And in front of the class too!
She sounds like a tosser. :P

And i too, am waiting for Amelia to come and pay out Wicked Fugly. LOL. When I first picked it up, i kept on thinking: WICKED FUGLY WICKED FUGLY.
My brother asked what i was reading two days a go, adn i said Wicked Fugly :P
Only today did i realize my mistake :D
But it was a good book.

message 214: by Miss Ryoko (last edited Apr 16, 2010 06:05AM) (new)

Miss Ryoko (missryoko) | 349 comments Haha that's what Amelia calls the Wicked Lovely series because she doesn't like it. And everytime she says it, I actually laugh out loud!

message 215: by ★ Jess (new)

★ Jess | 4295 comments Mod
*ahem* its actually Wicked Lovely-not ugly :D
But yes, for a few days i thought the name of the series was that too :P
And i laugh as well.

HAHAHA LOL Regan.
My maths teacher is a year 12 tutor-and she has a really high pitched/screechy voice.
First lesson we had with her, we all tried to not laugh.
She is a bad, bad teacher for many reasons.

Miss Ryoko (missryoko) | 349 comments Haha, there I fixed it

message 217: by ★ Jess (new)

★ Jess | 4295 comments Mod
omg-Thats the exact same with me! Every time my maths teacher walk past, me and my friend(who are in her class) both hide.
One time i dived over a table in our drama room to hide :P

message 218: by Miss Ryoko (new)

Miss Ryoko (missryoko) | 349 comments Hahaha! The image of you diving over a table is quite entertaining ;-)

I had the most awesome math teacher in high school... I had her for 4 straight years! I went from failing math to getting As and Bs cuz she was so awesome!

Too bad you gals couldn't have her ^_^

message 219: by ★ Jess (new)

I had *the best* maths teacher in year 6. I almost enjoyed maths with her. We would work out of text books once every two weeks. Other times it would be practical.
She was awesome.

Our maths teacher in year 8 was fairly awesome too. She was funny. But my maths teacher in year 7 was like this:
ME: "Excus me me, can i have some help?"
HIM:"Im sure you can work this out by yourself"
M:"No, but i dont understand what come after the multiplication:
E:"You can work it out by your self
(Repeat the last 2 lines over and over again-and he still didnt help :P )

sooooo jess, my sweet little Catholic Aussie, what did you think of wicked lovely?

message 221: by ★ Jess (new)

★ Jess | 4295 comments Mod
Sweet Little Catholic Aussie......haha I *love it*!!!!

I actually really liked Wicked Lovely. There were some bits, how i just thought: "Eww. Thats not even necessary. Yuck."
and there were some bits that were really fantastic. I gave it 3.5 stars. Though i think it could have been a lot better.
When i started reading it, i told my brother i was reading: Wicked Fugly, and i didnt notice i had got it wrong until a day ago :P

INK EXCHANGE-the sequel, is not good at all. im not enjoying it.

What exactly did you hate about Wicked Lovely?

message 222: by Miss Amelia (new)

Miss Amelia (missameliatxva) Cool - I wouldn't want you to hate it, because it totally sucks to read a book and think, "well, I'll never get the time back!"

I think you're definitely more fair than I am - yeah, there were some pretty interesting parts and everything, but I couldn't get over all the stuff I didn't like. How about I PM you and we'll talk about it?

I need to go revise my review - make it more objective and not as "screaming banshee" :P

message 223: by ★ Jess (new)

★ Jess | 4295 comments Mod
ok, sure. LOL.
i hate it when you read a book and think: I could have read that other book i wanted and enjoyed it a lot more. COUGH*inkexchange* COUGH.
I could have read GONE or THE BOOK THIEF or PERCY JACKSON.... *grumbles*

I liked Wicked Lovely too. I was just looking at the bads.
ANd I *hate* maths.
Its sooooooo hard :(
We have five lessons a week.
1 lesson every day except Thursday (maths free day) though a double lesson on Wednesday

message 227: by Miss Amelia (new)

Miss Amelia (missameliatxva) there are acutally a LOT of things wrong with WL...but I'm too tired to whine about it, hahaha

message 229: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (lisao_0) Ink Exchange was weird but i still liked the series :)

@ Booklover- we have maths everyday except for Friday two doubles and two single lessons a week. However i think sacience is the worst I have THREE doubles a week( six periods) and i dont like science anyway D:

All your points were valid, though! I wish I had your review to read when I was thinking about reading the book - I could have saved myself some time! If I knew then what I know now, I wouldn't have bothered

Should be....interesting :S

message 233: by Lydia (new)

Lydia Hartman | 321 comments I've never read this series.... Should I? Or should I not? That is the question....

message 234: by Miss Amelia (new)

Miss Amelia (missameliatxva) Lydia wrote: "I've never read this series.... Should I? Or should I not? That is the question...."

Lydia, I wouldn't...it's not the best-written book, nor is the plot that spectacular, and there are a lot of other books out there that are MORE INTERESTING, FUNNER, and *CLEANER* than this one :S

It was seriously a waste of my time, and my advice would be to skip it & read some other faerie books, like Wondrous Strange or The Iron King

message 235: by Miss Amelia (new)

Miss Amelia (missameliatxva) Regan ♥ wrote: "WHY DON'T YOU LIKE SETH?!

He's gross! he's covered in tattoos/piercings and he's had more sex partners than james bond! eww!
(at least, jess & I aren't in to that :P)

message 236: by ★ Jess (new)

★ Jess | 4295 comments Mod
Not my type. He may have been nice, but as Amelia said, how many one night stands he he have (Thats his whole reputation :S) *and* his face is covered in piercing. Yuck.
Plus-the whole bad boy image was ruined for me when he started drinking chamomile tea.
He was never a bad boy after that bit....

Regardless, i still gave it 4 stars. I was generous

message 237: by Miss Amelia (new)

Miss Amelia (missameliatxva) Haha, I just remember this guy I saw at the airport a few years ago, and he kept setting off the metal detector because of all the piercings he had - a bolt in his nose, three ear rings in each ear, a tongue ring, rings....ummm...INSIDE his shirt (just guess where)...
hahha so THAT's what I thought of when I was reading FUGLY :P

message 238: by Andrez (new)

Andrez (andrez-ssi) *whistles* those are a lot of piercings

message 239: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (lisao_0) I dont like Seth either but i think it kinda cool how he is like the adopted son of the high court. I love the Dark court King whos name i cant remmeber rite now Noel ,Naor something like that

message 240: by ★ Jess (new)

Niall????

Personally, I think Melissa Marr wrote INK EXCHANGE for the sake of having a sequel, then thought of the plot later.

message 241: by Miss Amelia (new)

Miss Amelia (missameliatxva) hahaha that's cool, Jillian. I'm actually harder on characters than actual people, because actual people are real, and you kind of have to give 'em a break - not so with characters! I read to escape reality, not be boggled down with reminders of how awful boys today are (note: some boys...I know a lot of darling boys that are nothing at all like seth/keenan and that's the way it SHOULD be)

You're right about Keenan.

I think Marr's writing style is terribly mediocre and that added to my distateful reading experience. There are some books that I personally don't like, but will admit that they were well-written (like Graceling, for example. I will admit that that is a pretty well-written book.) but Marr's stuff isn't very original and she's really not that good of a writer. I think she was published just because the publishers realized they could sell her stuff (easy-to-read teen romance with fantasy characters = $$$$$$$)

That's just my two cents though

message 242: by ★ Jess (new)

★ Jess | 4295 comments Mod
lol
Well then Jillian, if IE is a set up for later books, i guess im going to have to keep reading then. If Fragile Eternity better then IE?

And Amelia, your comment about publishing $$$$$$$, it may be correct, but i did enjoy the first one (not so much the second).
And i didnt find it all that original either.
It felt like a typical fairy story or game that i used to play with friends-though much darker.

And I know lots of boys who probably are/will be like Seth-though having said that, some of my best friends are boys.
So its really how you decide to portray them in the story.

Plus, i think Marr had Seth own a snake to make him look 'bad-boy'. I dont think it was necessary. Just made him look weird in my eyes :S

message 243: by ★ Jess (new)

★ Jess | 4295 comments Mod
Oh. Well then she wrote it for the sake of writing it.
Im sounding mean.
But i *did* really really really like WL

message 244: by ★ Jess (new)

★ Jess | 4295 comments Mod
OK. Thank you. I will continue reading the series, even though Aislinn annoyed me.
I liked Donia best :)
BUT-usually what i look for in a book is STYLE, CHARACTERS and PLOT.
I thought for a book that I enjoyed, WL lacked great characters. THere was 1 character that I enjoyed reading about. I didnt hate the others, i just didnt fall in love with them either.

And I agree. I hate reading OOOHHH! THIS IS SO GOOD.
OH YES, I SECOND THAT
AGREED.
i would like to read *why*! Plus, the negatives are much more fun :P

And in regards to the "Twilight effect" and making money, i was in the bookshop today-and there was an edition of WUTHERING HIGHTS, on the front was printed: "Edward and Bella's favorite book!".
I felt like being sick at that.
And stop with the vampires all ready! It has been done to death! STOP RELEASING BOOKS ABOUT VAMPIRES/ROMANCE! Goodness. Im probably the only one annoyed at that, but authors should find something knew to write about.
*Originality*

Mmmm.
It annoys me.
When i first read TWILIGHT (*just* before the hype) i thought that it was an interesting twist form DRACULA-still my favorite vampire book.
And yes, im seeing stuff about fallen Angels and Fairies all over the place as well.

message 248: by Lisa (new)
