4. When did Amir accept his cowardice and how horribly he treated Hassan? Does he ever truly achieve atonement? Explain.I think Amir accepted that he had no coourage or he accepted that he was a coward when he didn't help Hassan out when he was getting raped by Assef. He really showed that he was a coward because he couldn't suck up his fear of Assef this once to help out Hassan whom was a true friend. Hassan loved Amir very much and I noticed that Amir didn't love Hassan as much as Hassan loved him early on in the book. When this happend and Hassan got raped I really noticed that Amir didn't love Hassan at all. It was very unfortunite to see that Amir didn't help out someone that looked up to him, someone that looked at him as a bestfriend. I don't think that Amir reached atonement. I don't think that Amir reached attonment because he didn't appoligize to Hassan. Since he didn't appoligize he didn't recieve the "it's ok", or the "I forgive you" from Hassan. I think that since he didn't hear those words from Hassan he did not recieve the words needed to get attonement. I beleive he didn't at all get nore did he deserve atonment.

4. When did Amir accept his cowardice and how horribly he treated Hassan? Does he ever truly achieve atonement? Explain.I think Amir always knew he was a coward. Hassan Always had to take care of him and protect him. Amir always treated Hassan bad even though Hassan consider him as a friend. Amir was just jealous because he thought that baba loved Hassan more than he loved him. Amir tried to make up for the bad things he did to Hassan by taking care of his son Sohrab after Hassan was killed.
2. When do you believe Baba accepted his failures and began to atone for his sins? Do you feel he could ever truly be redeemed? Why? Why not?I believe Baba accepted his failures and began to atone for his sins once he found out he had cancer. Baba finding out he had Cancer might have made him regret everything he had done back in Afghanistan. I think that moving to America was a big culture shock for both Baba and Amir, which might have caused him to start regretting of his past. I do not Baba could have truly been redeemed. I believe this because if Amir could not stick up for Hassan, he would not forgive Baba, knowing he had another son. Baba might have been redeemed from Rahim Kahn because they never really had a problem with their differences. If Rahim Kahn would redeem Baba, Amir might have turned his back on Rahim before going to Pakistan and seeing him.
4. When did Amir accept his cowardice and how horribly he treated Hassan? Does he ever truly achieve atonement? Explain. Amir realized that he was a coward when Hassan would always defends him when the boys would pick on him. he also realized this when he hit Hassan with a pomegranate and Hassan could not hit him back, this mad him feel guilty and also did not give him what he wanted back which was for Hassan to hit him back. Amir gets redemption when he saved Sohrab, Hassan son.
Amir accepted how badly he treated Hassan when he kept throwing fruits at him after Hassan was raped. He realized he was a coward after he did not stop Hassan from being raped. He was mad at Hassan for not fighting back which is why he pelted him with fruit. Amir did not get the response he wanted from him therefore he was not redeemed. Amir after that only saw Hassan as his servant and not a friend anymore.
1. When did Amir's cathartic journey begin? Explain with specifics why you believe this is the moment. In the novel “The Kite Runner” by Khaled Hosseini I believe that Amir’s cathartic journey began when he witnessed Hassan getting raped. At first, Amir was so devastated about that situation that he beats himself up mentally and he was so blinded with fear that he tried to lie to himself by saying that he didn’t witness his friend get raped by Assef. Even though he realized that he couldn’t block out his denial of seeing this tragic event, he got very angry at himself. He refuses to think about this event and stays focus on his school work to forget about his “nightmare.” He then starts to say “’ that if he would be able to get rid of Hassan, he will be a better person and he would always behave. As he realized that he couldn’t get rid of his “problem” he then started doing some unreasonable things. He framed Hassan by planting his watch and money under his mattress. Even though it was a fail attempt to get rid of Hassan, it took him about 25 years for him to redeem himself by making an attempt to save Sohrab.
4. When did Amir accept his cowardice and how horribly he treated Hassan? Does he ever truly achieve atonement? Explain.
I feel that Amir started to accept his cowardice and started to notice how badly he treated when he notices how badly it was that he let him get raped. He thinks about the time when he just left Hassan after all he did for him. He also remembers the times when he used to get picked on and Hassan used to stand up for him. This also shows betrayal because even though Hassan stood up for amir at these times that could have been scary, amir did not step up for Hassan at a time that was scary.
What had to happen in order for Sanaubar to be redeemed? How does she atone for her sins?I think Sanaubar can not redeem herself, no matter how hard she tries. She left him at a very young age, after all those years she thinks that she can come back with open arms. “Now you have an idiot son to do all the talking for you”- Sanuabar, a mother with such words can’t be forgiven. She tries to atone her sins by being in Sohrab, Hassan’s son, life. She takes care of him when Hassan dies. She believes that even though she couldn’t be in Hassan’s life, she could make it up by being in her grandson’s life. I believe life does not work life that, you can’t be forgiven after all those years that you missed. Even thought Hassan might be nice enough to forgive her because he’s that type of person that forgives everyone.
4. When did Amir accept his cowardice and how horribly he treated Hassan? Does he ever truly achieve atonement? Explain.Amir accepted his cowardice when Hassan got raped. Amir didn’t do anything about it he just stood there are watched. I felt he should have stood up for him because that was his friend. Even though Amir didn’t consider him as a “Friend” he consider him as a “Servant” Hassan does everthing for him such as his clothes, getting his book bag ready for school. He does everything for him. He started feeling really bad that he didn’t stick up for him, He started getting flash backs when he went to the United States. I belive that if he was a real friend he should have done what he had to do such as stick up for his friend.
4. When did Amir accept his cowardice and how horribly he treated Hassan? Does he ever truly achieve atonement? Explain.I believe that Amir started to accept his cowardice was when he moved to the United States. He started to remember his past. He remembered when Hassan got raped and he just let it happen. Hassan stood up for Amir when he used to get picked on. So that also him feel bad. Amir getting married and seeing that his wife was open made him see that he was being a coward.
My believe is that Amir's cathartic journey began as soon as he received a phone call from who have said that "There is a way to be good again". It gave him a hope for clearing his soul from the great weight of the sins from the past. This happening have began his walk on the road leading to the repayment of the debt. The debt which he owned to Hassan and to his own conscience. After this step by step Amir made great things, which in return gave him peace and pure heart.
In the novel "The Kite Runner" by Khaled Hosseini Amir's cathartic journey began when he saw hassan (his friend/servant) get raped with-in pages 75-77. The reason why I feel that the protagonist's cathartic joourney began there is because he turned his back to his friend, started to feel ashamed, and depressed about that action that he took. Which lead to framing hassan so he can leave. Towards the end of the novel Amir like lost all his wealth, there was a point in his life where he lived and a big house, with marbel floors, sliding door, and above all american products. Amirs father Baba was well known for helping other people, life was almost perfect for Amir, until he saw Hassan get raped by Assef.

In order for Sanaubar to be redeemed she had to go home and ask her son and husband for forgiveness. Although Ali died before she was able to ask him for forgiveness I think she was still able to atone for her sin because she came back and gained forgiveness from Hassan. She also atoned for her sins by giving Sohrab the love and attention she did not give to Hassan.
