"Protego!" Caleb cast the spell barely in time and it dissipated. He let out a short sigh of relief and grinned at Lyra. "Nice job."

Caleb shrugged. "I still say you did. But thanks. So, switch?"

Medea looked at Avery warily. "So, do you want to curse or block first?" She peered around the room as she spoke, assessing other people's progress. She took a deep breath. See? They can do it, so can I.

Caleb grinned. "Okay." He was confident in Lyra's abilities, but really didn't want to accidentally hurt her. "Petrificus Totalus."

Avery shrugged. "I'll curse, unless you want to."

Professor Hayden walked among the students, nodding his approval and making small corrections.

Caleb's eyes widened and he looked at Lyra. "I'm so sorry, are you okay?"

Professor Hayden nodded. "You're welcome. You were doing fine, your form was perfect. You just need to work on not getting distracted to your surroundings. No worries, though, it happens to all of us."

Caleb nodded slightly, wincing at her brusque tone. "Alright..."

Medea nodded, biting her lip nervously. "Ok. That sounds good, Avery." She raised her wand, preparing to cast the Shield Charm. After watching Lyra and Caleb, her arm shook a little.

Avery nodded. "You're ready?"

Caleb nodded. "Sure," he said. "And you already did it perfectly on your first try up there, Lyra."

Medea nodded again. She gripped her wand tightly, so that her ring dug into her finger.

"Protego!" Medea squeaked quickly, imitating the wand movement she had seen demonstrated. She squeezed her eyes shut, then opened them after nothing happened for a second. "Did it... it worked! I blocked it!"

Avery grinned. "Great job!" He put up his hand for a high-five.

"I've been looking forward to the opportunity, in fact, so watch yourself," Medea retorted grimly. Her mouth twitched into a smile. She held up her wand and concentrated. "Petrificus Totalus!"

"Petricifus Totalus," Avery said, stumbling on the pronunciation. No shield came up and the curse hit him, causing him to fall backward. Danget. That was stupid.

Medea's hands flew to cover her mouth in horror. She ran forward. "Oh my Rowling goodness, I'm so sorry, Avery! Ooops!" After a second, though, she giggled. I did it! I can curse people!

Professor Hayden lifted the curse on Avery.
