Caleb took a moment to internally be grateful to just be walking and talking with people again. He'd missed it, yes, but it wasn't until he was actually doing it again that he realized how much he'd missed everyone. If only I could find Lyra... He cut that thought off quickly, bringing himself back to the present. Slowly, he nodded, biting his lip as he tried to remember. "Your brother is... Emmett, right? What year is he in again?"

Caleb nodded. "I definitely like having good teachers for my favorite classes. I had an awful soccer coach once, it didn't make it easy to enjoy practices." He turned slightly, walking backwards next to Iris but facing the two boys slightly behind him. "I never actually asked. What houses are you in? Not that it really matters, I guess, I'm just curious." Caleb winced slightly as his sentence ended. Why did he always end up rambling?

There was only a split second pause before Caleb answered. It wasn't that he was ashamed of his house; no, it was just fine. But he wasn't sure if they'd still want him around once they knew for sure. Guin was reluctant at first, but maybe they wouldnt care? At the very least, Iris already knew. "Slytherin," he said. "I have a brother in Gryffindor, though."

((Psh. I totally thought I replied to this...oopsies. But...name squishing is fun. I squish everyone's names together. Like me and my friend are known as Mally in our math class because we are just cool like that and I don't like her to have our names squished together. And I could squish Kynton, Tristin, Iris, and Caleb's names together to describe how they are all walking together at this exact moment in time to the library. And Lykrisios could never be like Brangelina because Lyra and Akrisios are way cooler. Why, yes, I am done now. Thank you for asking.))

Iris slowed down so she and Caleb were apace with Tristin and Kynton so he didn't have to walk backwards anymore. She knew she would probably fall down if she walked like so. She smiled quietly since they all knew her house.

Caleb shot Iris a grateful smile and turned to face the right way, stumbling slightly.

Caleb's smile was genuine but tinted with a hint of negativity. "Yes, that's my brother." He nodded thoughtfully. "Ravenclaw's a great house. We always said that's where my dad would've been if he was a wizard." An appreciative look crossed his face. "Well, I'm glad you don't care. It's been better than I thought it would. I guess some Slytherins give the rest of us a bad rap."

"You think?" Kynton scoffed. Then, not in the mood for another confrontation (for once), he decided to back down the hostility. Just a little. He cleared his throat. "Well, I guess I haven't talked to many Slytherins yet - besides you now - but I've sure heard a lot about Slytherin House." And you wish you were in it, that inner voice nagged. "Anyway, I'm in Hufflepuff. So I know all about a few idiots giving a House a bad reputation, Caleb."

Caleb nodded, the corner of his mouth quirking. "I suppose you would," he said, shrugging lightly. "Pretty much all the Hufflepuffs I've met have been great, though. I think you're the only one I've ever spoken more than two words to, though."

Even Caleb was able to pick up the sarcasm there. "Don't worry," he said, only a hint of dryness in his tone. "I don't judge a whole house based on one person." He blinked. But you've made a good impression so far, so.."

Kynton raised one eyebrow at Tristin (hoping the expression came across as intimidating - It probably does. I'm good at that.), then turned back to Caleb. "Well, I'm glad. I'll be sure to leave if I start ruining the House name." His lips twitched, almost breaking into a smile, but he wouldn't let them.

Iris bit her lip. Really, was it neccesary to argue all the time? She held back a sigh of frustration, a wave of exhaustion coming over her.

Caleb frowned slightly, touching Iris's shoulder. "Are you okay?" He asked quietly, continuing along the cool hallway.

Iris held in another sigh. She really didn't want to talk about the arguing when they were right there. Actually, she wouldn't talk about them at all...Sometimes boys were silly. "I'm fine." She smiled, not too weakly. "And are you?"

Kynton narrowed his eyes, watching the exchange between Caleb and Iris. Well, look at them. Aren't they just the perfect set of friends? Both of them all nice and passive and blah. He couldn't quite pinpoint why it bothered him. Probably because he had no friends who really cared how he was. The thought made him even angrier.

"Well, that's excellent!" Iris announced at Kynton's ... announcement. "We can all be happy friends now! And, look, we're at the library too! Yayyy!" She didn't care if they thought she was weird. It would distract them from arguing.

"I can arrange that, Tristin," Kynton grumbled. He took a deep breath and looked at Iris instead of that annoying, stuck-up Ravenclaw. "The library? Finally."

“Yes, the library!” Iris repeated, her happy too forced light an annoying flight attendant. She pushed the door open. “What wonders shall we uncover in this wonderful world of learning?” Now she was just talking to be talking. And she was okay with that.

Kynton stared at Iris openly. "What the...." Then he rolled his eyes. She's either the weirdest person ever or she had straight sugar for breakfast. Or both. "Nevermind," he muttered. He'd had enough forced conversation, and nobody present was interested in what he said anyway. They already had marked him off as irritable. He was a little proud of himself for that accomplishment.

As Iris held the door for the group, she noticed Tristin lingering back, frowning. "Come on, Tristin." She smiled at him and waved him into the library. “We don’t want leave you behind.” She hoped her words had done the trick for his subtle upsetness.

“You’re welcome,” Iris replied, still smiling, especially at Tristin’s own smile. She hoped she’d made him feel a bit better. It was the least she could do after she’d practically dragged him into this mess when he’d defended her against Kynton. Besides, she enjoyed making people smile. “And it’s alright. I get lost in my thoughts sometimes, too. When I have them,” she joked, letting the door fall shut behind her, the small wind blowing her hair.

Which isn't often, Kynton thought. Normally he would've said that audibly as harshly as he could, but somehow.... well, he didn't really want to.

Iris bit her lip at the students finishing some last minute homework, laughing with their friends and being shushed by the librarian. She’d finished the bit of reading they’d had and more before the holiday was half gone. She was such a stereotypical Ravenclaw. “Well, I don’t see anyone I know,” she commented.

Caleb jumped at the loud bang and spun around. His eyes searched for a moment to find the source, suddenly seeing a tell-tale brown braid and slight frame. His heart seemed to stop in his chest for a moment as his eyes were glued to her. How long had it been since they'd actually spoken? Did she even want to see him anymore? Maybe she was avoiding him intentionally. Maybe he should just--

Lyra giggled, in a way that was so free and generally un-Lyra-ish, that it broke through Caleb's thoughts. Was she... alright? He turned to Iris, Kynton, and Tristin and stuttered, "Uh, I'll... Be right back."

Willing himself to step forward, he made his way toward Lyra, trying to press back the heat that rushed to his cheeks. She didn't care about him that way, he'd figured that out, and why was he so stupid, anyway? He bit his lip, standing behind her for a second. She still hadn't seen him, he could just go, couldn't he?

He gave a silent exhale and mentally steeled himself for the worst, and tapped her gently on the shoulder. "Er, hi?"

Caleb blinked slightly. "Uh, Lyra, are you okay? You seem really... happy." He backtracked quickly. "Not that that's bad, I mean it's good to be happy of course, but you're just not usually this bubbly about it, I guess?..." His sentence died rather pathetically, and he winced in his mind. Way to go.

Kynton watched Caleb head away to talk to some other girl, trying to hide his interest. Caleb wasn't too annoying, so he wondered if this new girl was also tolerable. Is she one of the friends Iris was looking for? he wondered. Eh. She's nice-looking, I guess. She has normal, non-purple eyes though. His face reddened at the thought. Why were non-purple eyes a drawback? Iris' strange eyes were.... strange. He didn't like anything outside his own, comfortable level of experience. Change, and things that were different, wasn't good. Which was why friends were a bad thing. Kynton nodded to himself and looked away.

"You all right?" Iris asked Kynton as he looked away, tilting her head at him slightly. Then she decided she might freak him out by looking at him so she stared at the back of her hand, tracing circles on a nearby table. In the back of her mind she was listening to a girl giggle. It sounded like Lyra...she thought. She hadn't heard Lyra giggle before.

"Sorry," Iris apologized quickly, her hand falling immediately to her side and her gaze snapping to Kynton's. "I didn't mean to upset...I mean, I want...I just cared to know how you're doing, okay?" As soon as the words left her mouth, Iris bit her bottom lip. Why was she so impulsive? She'd nearly snapped at Kynton. She stared nervously into Kynton's eyes. They were a pretty color. What the heck, Iris?!

Caleb nodded slowly, slightly concerned at "side effects." What had she taken? But she apparently didn't want him to ask, so he wouldn't... yet. "Well, I'm glad you're happy," he said, "and that you have the, uh, upper hand." He tried to think of some way to continue the conversation. "So, er, what books are you reading?"

"You - you do?" Kynton was momentarily startled - but he quickly regained his scowl. "Well, thanks for asking in that case, but I'm fine. Just...." His voice lost the angry tone as he trailed off. He suddenly felt that the library was too warm. Now she's looking at me! Why is she looking at me like that?! It's so... weird. With her weirdo purple eyes. Gosh. But he didn't look away like he normally would have.

Iris shifted her gaze slightly to a point above his shoulder, going awkward when she sensed Kynton's discomfort. "Yeaaahhhh. I mean, I feel kind of bad when other people feel bad...it's a bit like...if I can make someone feel better I want to." Kynton looked...confused. At one moment he was wearing a scowl, but it seemed forced because just a second before he'd been perfectly normal.

Caleb smiled, a much more real smile that the ones he'd given out earlier. "I've been alright," he said. "I'm doing better now, I think. It's good to see you." it feels like it's been forever, even though it hasn't, he added mentally. His cheeks heated up slightly an he coughed. "Uh, would you like to meet Iris's new friends?"
