Iris ran far away from Peeves and found herself lost from Anaximander. She stood in a strange part of the castle, not sure what to do now.

"Idiot, Iris," she said to herself. "Only you would be lost halfway through the year. Only you."

Kynton stuck his hands in the pockets of his school robes as he stalked out of the Hufflepuff Common Room. He pulled up short. There was a girl who looked somewhat familiar - was she in his year? Probably - right in front of him. He stared. Up close her eyes were a purplish color. He'd never seen purple eyes before. And her hair was dark, like Mara's. He didn't think he'd met this girl yet, despite it being the second term. He would have remembered a girl with purple eyes. And she was slightly taller than him. He frowned to himself; he didn't like that. Then he realized he was still staring at her and grew irritated with himself. "Who are you? What are you doing by the Hufflepuff dorms?" he demanded.

Iris looked up. Did she know this guy? Oh yeah. He was in his year...right? Yes, she recognized his blonde spikes and intense blueish gray eyes now. How long had he been standing there? Had he been there the whole time and she'd totally overlooked his presence? Well, that explains why he's so angry looking, Iris thought. I'd better tread carefully.

"Oh, I was just running from Peeves. I actually had no idea this was the Hufflepuff dorm area. To tell the truth, I'm a bit lost," Iris flushed. "Oh. And to answer your first question, I am Iris Love."

Kynton jerked his head up in a very slight nod. "Kynton Lorcan. And since you're a Ravenclaw-" he was pretty sure- "I"d tell you to get lost but you've done that well enough on your own." His tone carried a trace of sarcasm. He stared at the blush on her pale face. He sneered internally. Geez, how annoying. Why do girls blush? It just makes them look stupid, not cute. Don't know why they're ever supposed to be cute anyway. His gaze lingered on her purple eyes again.

"Right," Iris gazed at him curiously, her blush disappearing without hesitation. He was rather unpleasant...bad day, perhaps? "I am. Thank you for sharing."

"My pleasure," he said, the sarcasm now completely apparent. "Where are you headed...Iris?" He started to scoff and then stopped, realizing that was rude. Wait... of course it was rude! That was the point! Did her parents really name her after her eyes? That's original, all right.

Iris raised an eyebrow at him. He seemed to be having very deep thoughts. Very deep, negative thoughts that is. She kind of wanted to know...but then she didn't. Was he allowed to confuse her like this?
"Well, Kynton, I was exploring with a..." Was Anaximander a friend? An acquaintance? Some random dude? Yeah. Too bad she couldn't say that. "Friend, but we got separated, so I guess I'll just mosey back over the Ravenclaw dorms. Somehow."

Kynton sighed. "Well, I suppose you expect me to show you how to get away from here, huh?" He scowled. "Whatever. I'm heading to..." he hesitated for half a second, not sure if he had a destination or anyone to see anyway, "the Great Hall. Come along then if you want." He spun around abruptly and began to saunter away.

Wowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww, Iris thought. Anybody else's first reaction would be to turn their back on him and immediately deem him an arrogant jerk. But Iris was determined not to let his antics get to her. She'd already done that enough recently. So, she followed.
"Actually, I didn't expect you to show me anything. But since you're off to the Great Hall you wouldn't happen to know when lunch is, would you?" Iris quickened her pace to match his so she was now striding steadily alongside him.

Kynton shook his head. Why was she being nice? Most people were never nice to him. And I like it that way, he added. "Sorry, I don't actually. Soon, I assume." He shrugged and slowed down a little.

Kynton snorted. "Whatever." He glanced sideways at Iris, noticing again that she was taller. His strangely normal face returned to his regular glare.

Iris saw his face contort into a glare and frowned. She allowed herself to fall a step behind him, wondering if she'd done something wrong. She was tempted to ask if he was always like this. But something told her it wouldn't be a good idea...the urge was so strong.

"Hey, I think I know where we are now..." Iris took in her surroundings. She actually had for a few minutes, but she didn't want to say anything. She was afraid of setting Kynton off.

"Then why are you still here? Obviously you want to get away. So see ya." Kynton shrugged and kept walking at the same pace. He forced himself not to look at the girl, sighing internally when he realized her departure would mean he would be alone. Again. Then he reminded himself that that's how he liked it.

"Not as much as you seem to want me to go away," Iris said offhandedly, growing slightly irritated. She went off in the direction of the school grounds in desperate need of escape and the icy air to cool her thoughts.

Kynton stared after Iris as she left. He tried to stand on his tiptoes and catch another look at her purple eyes, but he couldn't see her face. He cleared his throat, casually punched a wall, and fixed the scowl back in place. Right. I'm glad I don't have friends because friends are pointless and these people are stupid. Especially her.

Iris twiddled her thumbs, playing with her hands as she stalked off, unable to keep them still for very long. For obvious reasons, she was slightly annoyed, but also rather intrigued by Kynton. She hadn't heard about him before so she couldn't help but wonder what exactly was his reason for being so...antisocial.
