Silvana~Duchess of Avonlea~ | 13 comments Oh yes, I very much enjoyed Eyes of Silver, Eyes of Gold. I also thought I should recommend the Hells Eight series Caine's Reckoning (Hell's Eight, #1) by Sarah McCarty and my latest contemporary series is Rock Chick. Very addictive. Rock Chick (Rock Chick, #1) by Kristen Ashley

That's a good policy. I always wonder how many times I should try before giving up.

I'm new here (as in today) so I feel compelled to say the obvious, but I love Ms. Kleypas!!! I also really like quite a few of Linda Howard's books. I see many differences in their writings. However, in my opinion, both authors develop strong, believable, female characters.

Valie (valiemartin) | 109 comments My Fav authors when I need to read a history romance (besides Mz Kleypas!)

Mary Balogh
Grace Burrowes
Gaelen Foley
Alexandra Hawkins
Elizabeth Hoyt
Eloisa James
Sabrina Jeffries
Sarah MacLean
Julia Quinn

otherwise, I'd pick a book by Mary Jo Putney, Candace Camp or Ashley March.

I didn't try Manda Collins, Vicky Dreiling, Olivia Drake, Tessa Dare, Courtney Milan, Maggie Robinson or Isabella Bradford yet. I'm quite curious about their work !

message 959: by Danielle The Book Huntress , Certifiable St. Vinnie's Ninny (last edited Jan 17, 2013 01:05PM) (new)

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 3737 comments I've read two by Manda Collins, and I'd definitely give her a thumbs up. And definitely Courtney Milan. Haven't read the others you mentioned off your need to try list, Valie.

I'm loving the Spindle Cove series by Tessa Dare...it's her current series. I would recommend Sara MacLean, too.

message 961: by Ridh (new)

Ridh (jaan123) | 17 comments I think Valie really got them all. Especially Sabrina Jeffries and Tessa Dare. I've got some of Ms.Milan's books lying around on my to-reads, looks like I'll have to bump them up to priority. Did anyone mention Maya Banks? Unlike all the other writers that I'm seeing, she's a highland writer. I wasn't a big fan of highlanders until her. Now I'm recommending Ms.Banks's books left and right. :P
In Bed with a Highlander (McCabe Trilogy, #1) by Maya Banks Seduction of a Highland Lass (McCabe Trilogy, #2) by Maya Banks Never Love a Highlander (McCabe Trilogy, #3) by Maya Banks

Hahaha, I can't remember who convinced me, but I would bow down to whoever it was. Banks is amazing! :)

message 964: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (laurenjberman) Quinn's Bridgerton's series is fantastic as is Maya Banks's McCabes trilogy. Also enjoyed Tessa Dare's Spindle Cove.

I've read a couple by Hoyt and James and liked them, especially When Beauty Tamed the Beast (Fairy Tales, #2) by Eloisa James .
Also have some of the others on my TBR - MacLean and Jeffries - so many books, so little time!

message 965: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 871 comments I have a bunch of Courtney Milan books and ALL the Hell's Eight books on my kindle...guess I better get reading instead of messing around on here!

I agree with Elizabeth Hoyt! She is my second fave after LK!

I LOVE Kristen Ashley!!!!!! There are some issues with editing and stuff in her earlier work but she got an editor and it got better. Now she has a publisher and I am sure that will improve even more but she also is still self publishing. I haven't read the other authors.

message 967: by Faith (new)

Faith | 3 comments Hi everyone! I'm new to this group and I absolutely love Lisa Kleypas. My favorite is Again the Magic, which I read three times in a row. Just beautifully written. I don't know how else to describe it. No other book or author has affected me as much. I believe I've read every book she's published except for Crystal Cove, which is waiting for me in the hold shelf at the library :). I also absolutely adore her Travis series. I think someone has already asked this question but I couldn't find the answer in the thread. Can anyone recommend an author that writes contemporary novels similar to the Travis series? Thanks in advance!

message 968: by Danielle The Book Huntress , Certifiable St. Vinnie's Ninny (new)

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 3737 comments Welcome, Faith! I hope you get some good recommendations. Contemporary is not my biggest romance genre.

Carol Cork *Young at Heart Oldie* (httpsrakesandrascalswordpresscom) | 2140 comments Hi Faith! Again The Magic is my favourite as well. Sorry I'm don't read many contemporaries.

Hi Faith,
It's nearly impossible to find an author that writes like LK! I loved the Travises and have never found another contemporary series as good.

Here are a few I've enjoyed though:

Susan Elizabeth Philips- Chicago Stars series.
~they can feel a bit dated and the heros always start at as real jerks but they're fun.

Julie James- FBI series

Pamela Clare- I Team series
~ I don't read these back to back because they all feel pretty similar to me so I mix in other authors in-between.

Jill Shalvis- Lucky Harbor
~ These are just light and fun.

Suzanne Enoch- Samantha Jellicoe Series

Linda Howard
~ She's hit or miss but there are a few of hers that I've loved, like
Cry No More

Nora Roberts- The Witness

Hope that helps

Trewen | 33 comments After catching up on this thread (it's been a while ;)
I wanted to add a few historical authors I haven't seen mentioned lately.

Julie Anne Long- The Penny Royal Green series

Meredith Duran- Bound by Your Touch and Written on Your Skin are two of my all time favorites.

Liz Carlyle- If you like to read books in order, go to her website and view her book list. Her series intertwine.

Connie Brockway- All Through the Night (this won't link correctly) and My Dearest Enemy are excellent.

Lorraine Heath- Scoundrels of St. James series

Loretta Chase- Scoudrels and Carsington Brothers seres

Deanna Raybourne- Lady Julia Mystery series

Laura Lee Guhrke- Guilty Series

Suzanne Enoch- Lessons in Love series

And everybody should read Annie's Song by Catherine Anderson!

message 981: by Leah (new)

Leah | 2 comments Hi everyone! I've been part of this group for a while but never posted so I thought I'd give it a shot! I'm obsessed with LK but have read all of her books. I now find myself needing to pick a book for my book club and the pressure is on! I'd love to pick a book I haven't read. Can anyone recommend a book by another author that captures the steaminess and humor that Kleypas does so well and has you falling in love with the characters after the first couple pages? I'm open to historical or contemporary. Thanks!!

message 982: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 4782 comments Glad you've joined us, Leah. Welcome! I can't really think of anyone who is like Kleypas; she's in a class by herself. I do really like Elizabeth Hoyt and Jill Shalvis, though.

Carol Cork *Young at Heart Oldie* (httpsrakesandrascalswordpresscom) | 2140 comments Welcome to the group, Leah. I can recommend Courtney Milan , Anna Campbell and Loretta Chase

I agree with this completely! :)

Cozy_nights_reads❤️ (cozy_nights_reads) I'm going through withdrawal from LK books, I love, love her writing! After many tries to find someone similar to her, I've found close to the same satisfaction with writers such as Elizabeth Hoyt, Sara McLean, Tessa Dare (I've read all of these authors' books and love them all). Lately, I've found Lorraine Heath's books, have three so far and I'm completely in love. Try these authors and you won't be disappointed.

message 986: by Lisa Kay (new)

message 992: by Maria (new)

Maria Wood | 3 comments Samantha Young - On Dublin Street (contemporary). I loved the characters and the sexual energy in this book. One of my favs.

message 993: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 4782 comments I've heard that one is good, Maria. I haven't read it yet, but it is on my radar.

message 994: by Sharlene (new)

Sharlene (swegner) | 374 comments I agree - On Dublin Street was excellent. I look forward to reading the other books, although the reviews I have seen of Before Jamaica Lane have not been stellar. That is the 4th book.

message 995: by Maria (new)

Maria Wood | 3 comments To be honest Samantha Young is a young writer who did really well with On Dublin Street but didn't really hit the mark with me with her other books. I did read them and they were ok just not memorable. Like most series I have to finish, because as you get to know each character, you want a happy ending for each one. Just be aware, she is no where near as good as our refined Lisa Kleypas. Braden from Dublin Street is an Alpha to the extreme but for me personally, I enjoyed the escape into this romance. It was sexy and hot, especially their meeting. Be aware though, some reviews are pretty harsh regarding Dublin Street.

message 996: by Sharlene (new)

Sharlene (swegner) | 374 comments It is on the erotic side, which I don't normally go for, but I did end up liking it. Braden is Alpha for sure! Whew!

Arietta (Bookaholica) (bookaholica) | 1 comments I am suffering from the same dilemma. Any suggestions? I'm looking for a good regency novel at the moment.

message 998: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 4782 comments Mary Balogh writes a lot of Regency.

message 999: by Sharlene (new)

Sharlene (swegner) | 374 comments Have you read The Impossible Bachelor series by Kieran Kramer? Lots of humor, great characters, a little mystery & wonderful love stories. Cloudy With a Chance of Marriage is my favorite, but they are all really good!

message 1000: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 4782 comments No, I haven't, but they look good, Sharlene.
