UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish | 8001 comments You know, I think I'm the only person on the planet who's just tired of Qhuay at this point. I still think Blay deserves better, and Qhuinn is going to have to work his butt off to prove to me that he's worthy to be with Blay.

Suzanne (Under the Covers Book blog) | 630 comments Yeah, but reading about it will be fun : ) I would love to see Qhuinn doing some serious grovelling!

Okay, completely off subject, does anyone know of any good audiobooks? I have joined the gym and I lose interest in music after a while, so I have decided to listen to an audiobook instead, so does anyone have any recs on what books are good in audio? Doesn't matter what genre it is

You might like Christina Dodd's contemporaries. She's not as popular, but I like her books. Have you read the Drake sisters by Christine Feehan? They are paranormal, but the strong sister bonds are a huge aspect of the stories, as well as the love stories. I am more of a GhostWalker and Carpathian fan, but I ended up enjoying them.

Naomi, the reason why I didn't answer until now is I am very picky about contemporary romance. I usually don't read too many mainstream CRs. I stick with Harlequin/Silhouette. I've heard Julie James is good. I haven't read her, but she's on my list.

Jessa ♥ EvilDarkSide (metalgirl80) We were discussing contemporary romance books earlier in the thread and I have to admit that I'm not a big fan of this genre. But, I decided to read Kiss an Angel by Susan Elizabeth Phillips on a recommendation and I must say that I am thoroughly enjoying this book. The banter between Alex and Daisy is beyond cute. I can already see the walls Alex has built up begin to crack in the presence of the sweet and lovable Daisy.

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 3737 comments That's my favorite one by her, Jessa.

Jessa ♥ EvilDarkSide (metalgirl80) It's really good so far, Danielle. Alex is pushing Daisy to her limits but she hasn't given up so far. I love stories where the male assumes the female is not-worthy but then gets blind-sided by her actions and starts falling for her. Great stuff for romance!

Whoa, whoa, whoa....I can't imagine any of the brothers cheating. Maybe he does something to betray the brotherhood? Which, actually, is just as bad.

Jessa ♥ EvilDarkSide (metalgirl80) I think the Warden mentioned that V hurts those he loves the most by hurting himself. I take this to mean pushing them away and doing things self destructive. I don't think that will include being unfaithful. I think it will be more of an emotional withdrawal from the ones he loves.

message 563: by Danielle The Book Huntress , Certifiable St. Vinnie's Ninny (new)

Uh oh. Alex just told Daisy that he cares for her but he could never love her. Isn't that usually the beginning of their downfall? Never say never! LOL I really hope Alex eats a big piece of humble pie and regrets those words.

It's only now that I've read this and yeah I agree with you. Qhuinn is a homophobe and it's good for Blay to get a move on, to take notice of someone who appreciates him. I've mentioned this in my reviews, that I'm not exactly a fan of gay characters, but I was really hooked in and got curious about them because JR Ward put a whole lot of emotion here, nothing sleazy and porny, it's about a male being in love with another male.

Jessa ♥ EvilDarkSide (metalgirl80) I want Qhuinn and Blay together but I think Qhuinn needs an eye-opener first. Blay should not make it easy on him.

message 572: by Danielle The Book Huntress , Certifiable St. Vinnie's Ninny (new)

I think you guys are being harsh on Qhuinn. I really want him to smarten up and go after Blay, but I don't think he's a homophobe, I think that after going through abuse of not being "pure" enough for his high class vampire family, he still has the notion of being a vampire of worth. I think once he's able to get past his family, he will wise up and realizes Blay is for him.

message 574: by Danielle The Book Huntress , Certifiable St. Vinnie's Ninny (new)

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 3737 comments I don't consider Qhuinn homophobic, but I do feel that Qhuinn needs to do some reflection and spend some time alone to deal with his issues.

Jessa ♥ EvilDarkSide (metalgirl80) Qhuinn a homophobe? No, not at all. I'm fairly sure Qhuinn has been with men as well as women. I'm pretty sure Blay mentions that he has been with both genders and he doesn't discriminate. Sex is sex for Qhuinn.

message 576: by UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish, Your Humble Servant (new)

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish | 8001 comments First, it wasn't me who said he's a homophobe, and secondly, I think I'm cutting him quite a bit of slack. Blay deserves better and until I see where Qhuinn is making any effort at all, I'll stick by my opinion of him.

Suzanne (Under the Covers Book blog) | 630 comments I don't think he is a homophobe either, I think it is more about him. He has always been on the outside because of his eyes, and now to say he is gay aswell, something that everyone thinks in his family is freakish. I guess he just wants to think about himself as "normal" in at least one aspect of his life and admitting that he is gay and wants Blay would mean he would be a complete outsider in the eyes of his race and his family.

message 578: by UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish, Your Humble Servant (new)

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish | 8001 comments Joy - I'm not entirely convinced that Qhuinn is a homophobe because if I remember right, he's been with men before, but I AM convinced that at this point in time, he's undeserving of Blay and I think Blay should stop pining after him and move on.

If/when Qhuinn manages to pull his head out, I'll be all about a HEA for Qhuay.

message 579: by UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish, Your Humble Servant (new)

Dhestiny, I didn't say you said, I replied to Joy, who said that he was a homophobe and that Blay deserved better. I do think that Blay deserves better, but to say that Qhuinn hates gay men, or is against it in any way is just not true. He just doesn't see himself forever with a man.

In Lover Mine, didn't he go to find Blay, but it was too late? I feel like at the end he did get to a point where he would try, but Blay was already with his cousin. I wished he would have burst through the door yelling "I LOVE YOU!" But, alas he did not.

Ok, well, you can see my confusion because you quoted ME, then stated your homophobe comment.

As I said, and I'll keep saying - when Qhuinn pulls his head out and gets over whatever it is he's dealing with, and I have NO DOUBT the WARDen will make it big, then I'll be about Qhuay's HEA. I want them to be together, I think they'll be great together, but Blay shouldn't have to sit by and watch the train wreck that is Qhuinn.

Definitely didn't reply to you. Replied to joy who replied to you, so the name is in the chain, but not at the start.

The thing that concerns me, is that Qhuinn has a lot to work out and then he has to win back Blay from his cousin. This should be it's own book, but can it be? I'm not sure how m/m romance is published, but could J.R Ward publish a book in the series that was a gay relationship? I would love to just have a book for Qhuinn and Blay and not just a few pages in someone elses book.

message 583: by UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish, Your Humble Servant (new)

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish | 8001 comments The WARDEn is giving Qhuay their own book. She said that shortly after Lover Mine was released, so that's a good thing!

message 584: by UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish, Your Humble Servant (last edited Jul 19, 2010 11:19AM) (new)

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish | 8001 comments I'm sorry, I hit post before I was done...

They will get their own book, it was decided between she and the publisher. It'll be written this way so that she can go in depth into their relationship, emotional and physical, without the worry of offending readers who might otherwise be... well... offended. LOL

I appreciate what they're doing for us because if I remember right, the publisher isn't one that usually puts out gay-lit, so they really are working hard to give us readers what we want.

For me that want is a fully developed storyline, a relationship that's written in as much detail as the hetero couples, both sexually and emotionally.

I think Qhuay deserves nothing less.

Did she finally decide on a book for Qhuay or a novella? I thought it was suppose to be a novella, not a book. (BTW, I'm totally for them to get their own book, they deserve nothing less!!!)

message 588: by UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish, Your Humble Servant (new)

I'v read a few, but I think I also read them out of order. They are okay. Not great but good, imo. I'm not sure that its a 'must read in order'. I think some of the characters intertwine but not enough that the stories are ruined if you do it out of order. Anyone else can correct me if I'm wrong. It's been a while since I've read them.

I'm trying not to be dissapointed with a long novella, but I would have loved to have a full size book for Qhuay. I could read about these two for more than 500 pages, lol.

He has a lot of issues when it comes to Blay and you said it was mentioned that he was with men, I always assumed it was because of a menage, and not just a regular guy-to-guy sex.

This book has been in my shelf for the longest time, and I bought the one published by Hodder. Somehow due to the less than 4-star (average) reviews, I don't find myself rushing it to the top of my queue.

message 595: by UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish, Your Humble Servant (new)

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish | 8001 comments Hey Joy, hows it going?

Sometimes in books characters will think or call someone a certain thing like homophobe, moron, butch (as in the case of Xhex) and it's just that character being a bigot, not necessarily what the author intends the character to be. Does that make sense? I just woke up not long ago. LOL

Jessa ♥ EvilDarkSide (metalgirl80) Joy wrote: "I'm sorry if I offended anyone with the homophobe comment, I didn't mean it in a negative way, and I have nothing against gays in general (hey my bestfriend is one and he has a boyfriend too), but ..."

I dont think we were offended, Joy. Or I wasn't. We were just clarifying that Qhuinn has nothing against gays. He's been with men as well as women. He just doesn't see himself having a male as a life long companion. He has issues with being a 'freak' already due to his bi-colored eyes and I think he wants to try his best to live a normal life, out of the spotlight. He's going to have to get past all his fears and doubts to be with Blay. The Warden will write this appropriately, I'm sure of it.

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 3737 comments You didn't offend me, Joy. I can see what you are getting at about Qhuinn not being fully aware of who he is. I think he has to work to do to accept himself as a whole person. He's got a lot of self-hatred going on.

Julie's books are very enchanting. I've only read Kingdom of Dreams and Whitney, My Love by McNaught and they are more emotionally intense but very good as well.
