I wasn't able to find any of her historicals at all on ebook, and I emailed her and asked if it would happen in the future, but she didn't bother to answer me.

Hey guys, I need advice. I'm a lover of historical and Paranormal/Urban fantasy romance, but I have a hard time getting into contemporary...not sure why. I really really LOVE Lisa's Travis contemporary series and have tried other writers like Rachel Gibson, who I thought was OK, Nora Roberts, Danielle Steele and Erin Mccarthy and while I finished all the books, so they can't be that bad, I did not love them. Are there any authors I can try whose styles/stories are similar to the Travis series.
I havent read the Travis series yet, and like you I don't really read that much contemporary romance, however, a writer that I really liked was Susan Elizabeth Phillips, especially her Chicago Stars series that starts with:
Also Gena Showalter does some contemporary romance as well, some with a touch of paranormal like:
Or just normal contemporary romance:
Hope that helps!

I've read a few by Susan Elizabeth Phillips, and didn't like it at all. She's more comedic I guess and I just can not get into her writing style.
I also read the first of Showlater's Lords of the Underworld and while I think the idea was good, didn't like her writing style. Are her contemporary written different then her paranormals?
Ladies I’m in need of a specific recommendation but I’m unsure of where to post my inquiry. Sorry if this is the wrong tread, but here goes. I find myself in search of a story where the hero-for lack of a better word screws up …literally. I would think if a man cheats or comes close to cheating, he would have to move mountains, beg, plead and grovel to profess his undying love and win the girl back. The closest I’ve come to such a story was Addicted. Any recommendations?
Personally I thought her paranormals were better, although her first LOTU book is a bit shakey they do get better. I did find her contemp ones slightly annoying, but other people seem to like them.Have you tried Janet Chapman? She has a Highlander series where a handful of warriors are sent forward in time to meet their soul mates, and that starts with Charming the Highlander, but she also has just normal contemporary romance (as well as a few historical) my fave is her Puffin Harbour ones which are:
Maybe you might like those ones : )

The hero of LK's Prince of Dreams cheats on one occasion. I can't think of any more off the top of my head. Since this is a theme that I don't particularly care for I tend to avoid them if I know ahead of time.;-)

OH, my daughter said that that Skye O'Malley was like that. I remember her crying and being very upset about it.

Well Rhage and Mary in Lover Eternal go through something pretty bad, but the audience is never really mad at him, just disappointed...

I don't like it when the hero cheats either. It totally ruins the story for me. I can deal with it if they come close but then back out because they can't go through with it. I don't count the hero in Addicted as a cheater. He was set-up and it didn't go all the way.
Now, I'm interested. Are there a lot of novels where the hero cheats and is forgiven? Or not? I know there are a bunch o books where the guy messed up in the past, prior to when the book starts. or books where the fiancee cheats only to discover that the other person in their life is their true love... but I feel like having the hero/heroine cheat is the antithesis of the romance novel? No?
I agree, Naomi. In my opinion, it wouldn't feel like the couple was truly in love if either of them cheated. It ruins the romance for me.
I agree, Jessa, I don't consider what Lindsay did cheating. For one thing, he was drugged and set up. But he was still a bastard.
I'm dying to read "addicted" but its soooo expensive to purchase right now. I wan't to know what Anais's secret is.I read Tempt Me Tonight by Toni Blake.
The guys cheated on the girl and I dont think he did enough grovelling. If it was me, I wouldn't forgive, especially considering she says she cried for 2 years every night.
I can't stand cheaters.
True, very true hey I posted this before, I need advice. I'm a lover of historical and Paranormal/Urban fantasy romance, but I have a hard time getting into contemporary...not sure why. p.S
Also not a fan of Susan Elizabeth Phillips,
Naomi, off the top of my head I can't think of anything. You can check my shelfs if you want. They are labeled contemporary and then genre like suspense, etc.
I just Read McKettricks of Texas: Tate. He had cheated on his girlfriend. It's a cowboy story, I don't know if you like those.

Oh gosh, yes! Very, very emotional. Charlotte Featherstone puts some major twists in her stories and although you still get a HEA, it's not all wrapped up neatly with a bow on top. She has some very unique story lines!
You know, Charlotte Featherstone also writes as Sophie Renwick and I LOVED her book,
.Not nearly as emotionally intense as the others, but still a really good, hot read.

If it's a good read I don't mind what the characters do. I don't like the idea that authors are restricted in their creativity by what their readers will accept. For example I've seen some reviews on Amazon where readers are objecting that someone didn't get sufficient comeuppance for some misdeed and therefore won't read any more of an authors books. My moral standards ain't going to change just because of a novel so I don't mind if the characters do things I don't like- I can appreciate the read even if I don't adore everything the H&H do. I sort of separate my liking for the characters to my appreciation of the book.
You summed it up Mshj! I guess I don’t think I can separate my feelings for the characters and how I feel about the quality of the book. To defend myself I would like to say I was really really upset on Trish's behalf when Trish's friend told her what Joe did. Maybe I get too attached to these characters.:(

Touche! It would be very strange for me though,if all of a sudden Derek Craven cheated on Sarah in their marriage. I dunno, i'm still young, but i read romance because it makes me believe in HEA, something i don't often see in real life and having the couple i'm reading, getting involved with for 100+ pages betray each other in such a base way, would break my heart.

I'm old and cynical- and mostly the authors bring it round to a HEA in the end even if it's messy getting there. I guess maybe I appreciate the route being difficult- it often shows the talent of the author if they can take you with them on the thinking and actions of the characters even when you don't like what they do. Maybe it's also because this isn't the main genre I read- I've read so many of the classics where a HEA is pretty elusive that I find some of this genre can be a bit too "happy".

The road can be rocky without infedility. As someone whose been cheated on I can say, a story would become less realistic to me (not that most of these stories are completely realistic) if the guy cheats and the girl takes him back. Unless they've been married 20yrs and wanna try and work it out. I don't believe in second chances , so i guess the way i look at romance reflects my beliefs.
I haven't read any romances where the hero cheats on the heroine, with the exception of Rhage and Mary, but for some reason that seemed different as he physically needed to have sex or he would go all dragon and eat everyone, I was still disappointed though. But I don't think I would like a book where the hero or heroine cheats within the book, because I know if I was the heroine, I couldn't accept that, unless it was a situation similar to Rhage's.I really want to read Addicted though, but for some reason, it is really expensive, but am getting it soon
I bought Addicted for $9.99 on the Kindle. Is it that much more expensive other places? It's definitely worth it. You won't be disappointed. Very original story line, lots of angst, emotional, and a major twist that you won't see coming. Oh, and it's pretty darn steamy also!
Thanks for the recommendation girls. I’m looking to get emotionally evolved in my next novel and I couldn’t think of a better scenario than a couple experiencing the tribulations of the most devastating of betrayals. I agree that Charlotte Featherstone did a great job in portraying both Anais and Lindsay’s emotional struggle even though the “cheating” never actually takes place. Well, somewhat …As for the BDB world, there has been talk of a possible forced betrayal between hellren and shellan. I can’t even comprehend the ramifications of such an act taken place…I mean it just doesn’t happen. On the other hand, the WARDen never fails to surprise me so I wouldn’t put it passed her.
Thanks again
Dhestiny I read it on a BDB thread, something about the WARDen saying Vishous will hurt the ones he loves… although I’m not sure if it was just fan speculation. I remember thinking, that just can’t be right. I will try to find it and let you know.
Thanks Silvana. I read that, too. Then the "forced betrayal" is just speculation on the fans part? Because I did see the WARDen say that he'd hurt the ones he loves, but not the other.I'm not being picky at all, not arguing, it's just going to tear me to pieces if V cheats on Jane. I can't stand infidelity. That's why I'm prying for details on that.
Slight Spoiler for those who haven't read the books - The whole situation bothers me. Poor V. Can you imagine what he's going to go through next? He'd finally sort of forgiven his mother, the Scribe Bitch, finds out he's got a sister he never knew about, said sister hooks up with a human.... things are not going to be good for V in Lover Unleashed.
I feel you Dhestiny and it would stand to reason that any infidelity between mated couples would have to be forced. I’m sure this theory will not come to veracity for the simple reason that it would hurt too damn much. I’m digging the SV new name haha. I swear she gets my blood boiling.
I really hope V doesn't cheat. There are plenty of other ways to hurt loved ones. I'm thinking that he is going to push everyone away and maybe revert back to drug use or self abuse. I really, really don't want to see him betray his Shellan by being unfaithful. *shakes head*
Maybe the person he hurts is Payne, it doesn't necessarily have to be his shellan. He might be forced to betray his sister instead.
Damn, well that's my theory out the window! I just can't imagine V cheating, espcially after he knows what it is like to lose her, why would he risk that?
Well, I'm hoping it won't be through cheating. He could just start hurting himself in some way, know what I mean? He's going to have a load of crap on his plate in the next book.
That's true, his father will be mentioned alot, maybe he starts becoming his cold reclusive self again and tries to push everyone away. I am really looking forward to this next book! More Qhuay, more Mhurder, more BDB goodness *does happy dance*
I agree! I didn't think it possible, but I'm looking forward to this one more than I did Lover Mine.
