I say this with immense pride: I believe I'm the master around here at coming up with excellent verbal insults (see: trouser stain), but I tip my cap to Clark's outstanding "Tupperware party for assholes..." line.

Jim, we should talk to Gilbert Arenas about the benefits to owning a handgun. Oops...there goes $93 million dollars owed to you!

Gus wrote: "(* which is not to say I'm anti-gun. I'm all for the Second Amendment and the freedom to own a gun. I just grew up around a lot of gun violence to shun firearms from my life)"

Something tells me this thread is about to get derailed and fast.

Each morning I hop a bus to work from a bus stop just a few short blocks away from the childhood home of:

He sends his love.

Guns scare the bejeebers out of me. But the guy knows his way around a fret board.

It was Mary. Mary said her seventeen cats were usually up to general fuckery.

message 55: by Youndyc (new)

Youndyc | 1255 comments It stuck with me. Just couldn't remember who.

Yes, it was an awesome comment.

message 57: by Youndyc (new)

Youndyc | 1255 comments It's been a while. At Thanksgiving, we decided that it was our new favoritist(i.e., most favorite) piece of profanity.

Books Ring Mah Bell The title of this thread is one of the best I HAVE EVER SEEN!

thank you.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments Yeah, swear all you want. I don't care.
When does Sarah Palin start this new gig? I may actually watch.

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Curiously, while we can swear all we want, say you hate someone/something, and Heidi will kick your ass sideways. It's a complicated world:)

message 61: by Heidi (new)

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments I'll let you be "not particularly fond of," though, so it all evens out in the wash. :)

message 62: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm going to honor Clark on Facebook tomorrow. Just you wait and see.

Whatareyougonnado, Gus!

message 65: by [deleted user] (new)

Check your Facebooks tomorrow, students. You will have an assignment for the day.

message 66: by Carlie (new)

Carlie | 17 comments One more thing to add to your list.....they have nothing on the situation in Haiti right now. CNN is doing specials on Larry King AND Live with Anderson Cooper giving constant information whereas fox is discussing Rush's birthday surprise and cougars on cruises, etc.

They just have these things recorded don't they and don't even bother to come in and report on actual important news when it's happening.

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments Matt wrote: "My roommate dared me to read Going Rogue. I think I'm going to follow through with this."

Let us know what you think of it, Matt. I've kind of been curious myself...

Gus wrote: "I'm going to honor Clark on Facebook tomorrow. Just you wait and see."

I'm not sure "honor" and "Facebook" belong in the same sentence, but have at it Gus. I'd consider it an, er, honor.

message 69: by [deleted user] (new)

So here's my FB status, in honor of the esteemed Clark:

Your assignment for today: incorporate the phrase "Tupperware party for assholes". As in, "My 3PM meeting today will be a disaster...kind of like a Tupperware party for assholes." Post your results below. Thank you.

Books Ring Mah Bell Brilliant idea, Gus.

message 71: by Heidi (new)

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments You forgot to credit Clark, Gus!

message 72: by [deleted user] (new)

He gets credit here. I don't believe he's on FB, though.

message 73: by Heidi (new)

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments You could still credit him there, though! It'll be appreciated... kinda like when I post in my status update "made Mom's shrimp etouffee - it was AWESOME!" She wasn't on there when I posted it (she is now, though), but my friends on FB, some who are family, who know her know exactly what her etouffee taste like and can appreciate the reference.

::bites Clark's nose for being silly::

message 76: by [deleted user] (new)

I credited Clark on the FB.

Happy?

message 77: by Heidi (new)

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments Yes. I love you, man. :)

message 78: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments Sigh. I watched her. I watched Bill O'Reilly last night, just to see what Palin-as-talking-head would be like. He spent the entire time throwing her leading questions.
"So, Governor, do you think Nancy Pelosi is a wacko?"
"No, but seriously, is Nancy Pelosi left of Obama?"
"What do you think about Harry Reid's muckup?"
and the scariest of all
"Will we be seeing you running for president on the Tea Party platform in 2012?"

I had to keep switching to the Daily Show for Bill O antivenom.

message 79: by [deleted user] (new)

Bill O'Reilly is the living embodiment of Ted Baxter; a pompous blowhard is all he is.

message 80: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments I had to take a shower afterward.

Bill O= Ted Baxter + Archie Bunker?

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments Oh, is she on already? I missed it!

But then, I get a headache when I try to watch Bill O'Reilly, and I start yelling uncontrollably at the TV set, so maybe it's just as well.

message 82: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments She's going to be a regular, have no fear. Or, have much fear, depending on your perspective. Ya didn't miss much, in any case.

We already know you get dumber by watching Fox News, and now it turns out the same thing happens when you watch MSNBC !! I can't say I'm surprised, after a few snippets of Rachel Maddow.

What makes you know more are NPR and The Daily Show!

The dumbing effect of cable news

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/e...

The questions asked:

1. To the best of your knowledge, have the opposition groups protesting in Egypt been successful in removing Hosni Mubarak ?

2. How about the opposition groups in Syria? Have they been successful in removing Bashar al-Assad?

3. Some countries in Europe are deeply in debt, and have had to be bailed out by other countries. To the best of your knowledge, which country has had to spend the most money to bail out European countries?

4. There have been increasing talks about economic sanctions against Iran. What are these sanctions supposed to do?

5. Which party has the most seats in the House of Representatives right now?

6. In December, House Republicans agreed to a short-term extension of a payroll tax cut, but only if President Obama agreed to do what?

7. It took a long time to get the final results of the Iowa caucuses for Republican candidates. In the end, who was declared the winner?

8. How about the New Hampshire Primary? Which Republican won that race?

9. According to official figures, about what percentage of Americans are currently unemployed?

message 84: by Phil (new)

Phil | 11837 comments Rachel Maddow's show is not exactly a "news" show. She often does cover breaking news, but it is primarily a political show. Comparing her to NPR is apples to oranges.

Of course, comparing Fox News to NPR is downright laughable.

Hilarious.

message 87: by [deleted user] (new)

I didn't give clearance for the use of "Tupperware party for assholes."

Expect a formal complaint from my attorney.

~Geektastic~ (atroskity) | 3205 comments I get all my news from The Daily Show and Colbert.

message 89: by Jammies (new)

Jammies Sorry, Clark, it's been two years and five months, your objection is not timely filed.

message 90: by [deleted user] (new)

There is no statute of limitations on intellectual property.

message 91: by Scout (new)

Scout (goodreadscomscout) | 3595 comments Zardos, I agree with your first two paragraphs in message 91.

Everyone knows that the media and the politicians encourage polarization as a distraction. Fight amongst yourselves and maybe you won't realize that no one knows how to solve our problems.

message 92: by Jammies (new)

Jammies Clark wrote: "There is no statute of limitations on intellectual property."

There are statutes of limitation on copyright, but I was wrong and you're within them.

message 93: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) All you have to do is attribute to Clark and you will be clean on that.

message 94: by Jammies (new)

Jammies I would, but Lori was the thread-starter.

message 95: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Oh. Never mind. Pretend I never said anything.
