Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) Hi Everybody,

Lee and I are happy to add all books mentioned in the threads to our group bookshelves. We're also happy to add applicable shelves to books already on at least one shelf.

We'd also appreciate your help doing this.

If you've posted a book as one of your comfort reads you probably know the book better than Lee and I do. We can check each book's page to see the shelves members have assigned each book, so Lee and I can do this.

However, if you'd like to shelve your own books when you've posted about them in a discussion, here's how to do it:

1. From the group's home page click on the "bookshelf" link.

2. In the "add books" search box enter your book's title or title and author.

3. When you see your book on the results page, click on the "add to group" box. (You can first choose the edition of your choice by clicking on the "other editions" link right below that box if you'd like to do that.)

4. You'll then get to a box. The first thing you do is click on the "choose shelves" link.

5. Then, put a check mark on all the shelves that are applicable to your book.

6. Close that smaller shelves box. (ETA: This is sometimes, but not always, an optional step.)

7. In the big book box that remains, click save.

8. Voila! Your book will now be shelved in our group, and will be searchable in all the shelves you selected.

Have fun!

Feel free to post here with any questions or comments.

Lisa,

I copied the body of this post over to the Jane Austen group. Thank you for writing such clear instructions! I've been adding books to my personal tbr and then forgetting who recommended them! I like to post back to a group when I've read and enjoyed a member's book. :)

Jeannette, Oh good. Yes, many Goodreads members still don't know how to add books to groups, or edit books on group shelves either come to think of it.

Jeannette, I always add a recommended by on my own personal shelf for each book I found through a Goodreads member. I haven't been putting when I've found a book in a group, which I notice others do and which I think is a good idea, and I wish groups would link the way Goodreads friends do.

Great idea, Lisa. Can you put "recommended by" if the person is not on your friend list, too? I haven't tried to do this yet. I'll have to check this out.

Jeannette, You can put anybody & anything and it will show up as text, but only Goodreads friends show up as links, and only if you let the auto complete work and redo that each time a book/review is edited.

Patricia Well.... I'm exhausted..... I think I have successfully added a book to Comfort Reads. I was flipping back and forth from one screen showing the instructions, and one screen showing me following the instructions! Success!! I was so happy!!! Thank you for the instructions, because without them I would have been knocking on your door!!

Bye for now, I need some comfort.....
Patricia

Haha, that's funny Patricia! I'm glad the instructions helped but don't worry, if you mention a book in one of our threads, Lisa or I will shelve it for you.

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) Patricia, Congratulations! And Lee is right. If it's a big production, Lee and I love adding books and we're happy to add them for members. But it's a fun thing to be able to do, and maybe knowing how to do it will come in handy in other groups.
