bird welcome Pictures, Images and Photos

Glad to have you hang out and hope you stick around for a while! BTW, I think we sometimes wear the same pants.

message 52: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie I KNOW I sometimes wear those pants, but never while reading a book. ;)

Welcome to the group!

Vanessa | 17 comments Hello, I'm Vanessa from Columbus. I had heard of Bookmarks but had never seen it until I picked it up in a book store the other day. I'm so obsessive about finding and researching new reading choices and thought I was the only one. Much rejoicing that I'm not.

I read just about everything except romance (unless you count the Sookie Stackhouse books. Do those count?) and am pretty fickle when it comes to genre. I'm on a mystery bender right now. I just finished Garnethill: A Novel of Crime by Scottish writer Denise Mina and feel like I need to tell the world how fabulous it was.

Glad to have you on board. BTW, I don't count Sookie in the romance category, and I love mysteries.

Stephanie Welcome to the group, Vanessa! The magazine is fantastic, and I think you will like having others to discuss Bookmarks titles with (many of us read our issues with highlighters in hand...)

Thank you Stephanie, Patti, Helen and Lisa (love the gif! I am a dog owner myself.) I actually went thru the issue I bought marking it up. I just subscribed the other day.

Lisa Hickman (lbhick) | 986 comments Vanessa, you will be so glad you subscribed! You receive it MUCH earlier than the news stand.

Kathryn (kathrynh) Hello! I'm Kathryn and I live in Washington State. It's a cool late spring here - perfect for reading and my other passion of quilting. My husband and I are retired although I work at a quilt store two days a week. It's truly the perfect job.

I bought Bookmarks yesterday (been reading the website for quite sometime) and subscribed for 3 years today...I love to read reviews and find new books. I get lots of email newsletters, too....it's crazy fun! Everyone seems awesome here.

Victoria (torim) | 7 comments I'm Vickie,
Hello to everyone, I'm also from Missouri, just north of Branson Mo. I liked Sharon's post, I'm sure Sharon is enjoying Blackberry season now that's it's June in Missouri:) These are beautiful long days to enjoy in Missouri.
I subscribed to Bookmarks a year ago. That was right after my youngest Son gave me my Kindle for Mother's Day. I had picked up bookmarks for quite a while before then. I really enjoy using the two items together. Bookmarks to select my books and kindle to carry my reading with me everywhere I go. I'm looking forward to this group very much.

Laurie (laurielh) | 93 comments Hi, I'm Laurie, and though I've been on Goodreads for a year and have been reading Bookmarks since its first issue, I'm just now joining this group -- not sure how it works, but I look forward to sharing. I'm a teacher so I'll probably participate during the summer, and then taper off when school starts up again -- hope that's okay. Thanks :)

Patti | 137 comments Hi Laurie. This is a great group and you will get the best recommendations here, plus lots of great discussion. Welcome.

welcome Pictures, Images and Photos

Glad you found us on Goodreads! Our group is very informal. We post reviews and thoughts about Bookmark reviewed books in folders/threads which correspond to the issue they were mentioned in. We also select group reads from the magazine and these discussions have their own folder. You can look at the bookshelves to see which books have discussion threads already started. (If you don't see it, then feel free to start a thread in the appropriate folder.)

We also have threads for other books, topics, and games outside of Bookmarks. Please contact me if you have any questions.

message 76: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Welcome to the group, Laurie! We are all Bookmarks junkies and this is a great place to chat about the books you read that were featured in the magazine.

Sonja (sonham) Hi, I am Sonja from Saarbruecken/Germany and I just recieved my first issue of "Bookmarks". I am on page 15 and I am already loving it - I added quite a few books to me to-read shelf already...

Welcome Group Fun Pictures, Images and Photos

Hi! I'm glad you are enjoying your first issue of Bookmarks. I'm sure your TBR is going to grow after reading the magazine and reading the threads from other Bookmarks lovers here on the site.

How close is Saarbruecken to Oberkochen? I had an exchange student from Oberkochen 2 years ago and my son in turn stayed with him. In fact, every 2 years we have about 20 students from a school in Oberkochen come and stay with families from our school. I've met some wonderful kids and teachers through our sister school program.

Thanks for welcoming me!
I just had a look at Google Maps. Oberkochen is about 350km/218 miles away from Saarbrücken, not that far and in a lovely part of Germany.

message 81: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie I will be in Munich next summer! :)

message 86: by Linda (new)

Linda | 1693 comments My name is Linda and it has been less than 5 minutes since I've had a book in my hands!

I live in central Ohio and have more books than I will probably ever get to and yet, I still peruse Goodwills and thrift shops for books. I have been on Goodreads for over a year and have known about Bookmarks for several years. I don't know why I hadn't thought about putting the two together and looking for this group. I'm presently reading One Day, Don't Know Much About the Civil War: Everything You Need to Know About America's Greatest Conflict but Never Learned (Don't Know Much About... and listening to Matterhorn: A Novel of the Vietnam War.

Another Goodwill buddy, yeah! I'm glad you've connected with the group. Keep me posted with your thoughts on One Day. I just started it.

LynnB Welcome to the group, Linda! I'm looking forward to hearing your opinions on books.

message 89: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Welcome to the group, fellow Buckeye! I am from the suburbs of Cleveland. I hope you enjoy being part of this group! I am also a fan of hunting for books at Goodwill, but I also hit library book sales. Some I keep, some I give away, but many I sell online to supplement our income. It's a blast! :)

message 90: by Linda (new)

Linda | 1693 comments I run my library's book sale - which means I have first vision of our books. I have been very proud of my reserve at NOT buying books. I still go home with a few, but compared to the number of temptations, I'm a saint!

I run my library's book sale, too, but I wish I had your strength to avoid the temptation of all those books. Unfortunately, I go home usually with more than a few ;)

message 92: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie My husband WANTS me to run a book sale so I have first dibs on what comes in. ;)

message 93: by Meera (new)

Meera Hi, I'm from MA. I discovered Bookmarks magazine through another Goodreads group- the seasonal reading challenge group back in September. Because of Bookmarks website, I read Major Pettigrew's Last Stand, Feed, and Horns. It was fun to read authors I wasn't familiar with. I became a subscriber recently because just looking through the web site wasn't enough. I'm looking forward to participating in book discussions in here. I am a book addict whose eyes are usually bigger than what I can realistically read though :-)

message 94: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Welcome to the group! I am glad someone found their way over from the SRC - it is a fantastic magazine and this is a fun place to chat about all of the books we highlight!

Tasha Hi, I'm Tasha. I'm a sahm mom to 2 amazing, home schooled kids and wife to a very supportive, wonderful husband. I've recently decided to subscribe to a book magazine (I was debating between Bookmarks and Book Page) and when I discovered this group, it decided it for me! I'm getting a subscription to Bookmarks and I'm really looking forward to getting involved in the group reads and discussions. I see some familiar faces here from other groups :)
