Amy | 172 comments I hope you enjoy it! As you can tell from my list I have just discovered historical fiction and am now loving it as well as trying to update my history knowledge (So much I don't know, must have been asleep in history classes!!)

If you haven't read Innocent Traitor: A Novel of Lady Jane Grey by alison weir it is very good. would recommend it

Just looked that one up, sounds good. Did you enjoy it?

message 23: by Amy (new)

Amy | 172 comments I gave it 3.5* out of 5. It was an unusual story (which is good when you've read as much as me!) and quite surreal in places. I found it a little fragmented as some of the story is told in flashback where the narrater is drowning (I'm not giving anything away as it happens in first sentence!) so there is not so much detail for some scenes. That spoilt it for me a bit some scenes i would have liked developed more! its not like anything else i've read though which is good.

if you read it let me know what you think!

Didn't enjoy it as much as I thought I would! Didn't really like any of the characters very much which I think was the main problem for me. It was an interesting idea for a story though and an interesting world she has created so might try the next one just to see if it gets better!!

Em (emmap) | 2707 comments Hi Amy, I saw Philip Pullman being interviewed by Mariella Frostrup on The Book Show about The Good Man Jesus and the Scoundrel Christ - I thought it sounded like an intriguing read. I do like Philip Pullman in general - would you recommend this one?

message 37: by Amy (new)

Amy | 172 comments Put it like this I read it in 4 hours! So yes I enjoyed it it makes you think about how the stories that surround Jesus (and stories in general) may have come about and changed over the years.

Em (emmap) | 2707 comments A resounding yes then! Def going on my to read list.

Just goes to show I have too much time on my hands at the mo I'm on holiday so going through them quicker than usual!

I liked Brixton beach although it wasn't brilliant really liked the beginning but felt it tailed off a bit towards the end, felt it could have finished earlier than it did. Let me know what you think of it

Lynne - The Book Squirrel (squirrelsend) | 3122 comments Amy, Does this mean you may be joining me to 150 books? I am getting very lonely! lol!

Don't think I'll be able to read quite that many - no matter how many holidays I take! I'm aiming for 100 as I read 92 last year

Lynne - The Book Squirrel (squirrelsend) | 3122 comments Well we will have a celebration when you get there!
