Hello! My wonderful friend, CeeAnn, invited me here and she's never been wrong with her suggestions. I've been enjoying goodreads since 2007 but have never joined a group. I'm Jody and live in the northeast with my husband and two furkids. My latest favorite comfort read was 'The Little Stranger" by Sarah Waters. Happy reading! I'm looking forward to reading up on all the great book suggestions here and making new friends:)

Welcome, Jody! Any friend of CeeAnne is bound to feel welcome here! You're not a Patriots fan, are you? ;)

No, I am missing the sports gene entirely:( I'm an odd one. I loved playing sports- not watching them. lol I always feel out of the loop during major football games. Thanks for the nice welcome!

Well, CeeAnne is probably still in mourning over the Ravens' loss yesterday to the NE Patriots. (I bet her ears are burning right now.)
Join us on the Daily Chat thread sometime! :)

Welcome Jody! We love CeeAnne and are happy to welcome you to our corner of Goodreads. And don't worry, not all of us follow football, we talk about all sorts of things here.

We met through a different online book group many years ago. She has become one of my closest friends over the years.

Just lookin' out for the group, ya know!

Hi, Jody. Welcome to the group. I've been at Goodreads since 2007 too. I'm glad you chose this group as the one to try out. Thanks to C.

Aww..thanks for all the wonderful welcomes! I feel at home already. Yes, it's amazing how meeting CeeAnne nearly a decade ago online (I think?!) has also made me view her as one of my most precious friends. One day I hope to meet her IRL. It's odd that I already feel I have. Sadly, I don't bake cupcakes but I eat them 6 at a time if around any unattended ones. I'm a glutton for food and books:)

Well, you'll like it here! We talk about food and books all the time! lol

You were busy sulking, so I had to pick up the slack. :P

Hello, Jody. Any friend of CeeAnne's is most definitely at home in this group. And I say that without knowing the tiniest little thing about American football!

I only allowed myself 24 hours of heavy sulking. Now I am in the misty depression stage.
(Sorry Lisa and Lee, I will take further comments to the chat thread)

Hi, I joined a while back, but this is my first post (I think) I've always found reading comforting, ever since I was a kid I would simply disappear into my books. Lately I've had a hardtime finding truly comforting books and I'm hoping you guys could maybe steer me in the right direction. As for specific comfort reads:
Sarah Addison Allen (Author)'s books, are a fairly recent discovery and were a complete surprise not the sort of thing I would normaly read. As I said to my mother when she saw one of her books "it's harder to judge a book by the cover when you read ebooks." The title of The Girl Who Chased the Moon waswhat caught my attention;
Hanna's Daughters has always a favourite, and more along the lines of what I would normally find a comforting read
What the Body Remembers: A Novel is another of my favourites like Hannah's daughters it was book I first read in my late teens and have reread a number of times, each time taking something new and comforting from them.
Bryce Courtenay I know will brighten my mood. his subject matter is not uplifting, but he adds a touch of humour and has fitting endings.
Ann Patchett's audio books are probably what I look for in comforting adiou books. They hold my attention and are well done.
I recently listened to The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society and despite the very sad circumstances it is recalling I found myself laughing out loud at parts of it.
Sorry this is so long
thanks

Tracey wrote: "Sorry - didn't realize random people weren't supposed to post welcomes."
I'm always posting welcomes to people -- AND everyone knows how random I am!
Welcome, Becky! Glad that you finally posted! I enjoy the Guernsey Lit & Potato Peel, too. :)

Not worried about a thing. Took it as a rebuff, and acted on it. Thanks.

I scanned some messages but I'm not sure what happened, but whatever did, I'm glad you spoke up so we could work on any misunderstanding.

Welcome Becky! Those are some great comfort reads.
And Tracey, I'm not sure what happened either but the more the merrier in the welcome thread! Post away!

Hello group. :-) I followed Hayes' link to ComfyCon out of sheer curiosity & ended up here & saw that re-reading The Hobbit had just started & thought, this looks like my kind of place! Chances are I'll lurk more than post, but I thought I'd give a wave upon arrival anyway. ~~~~

*waving back* Hi Abcdarian! I'm glad you followed Hayes here. Lurk away or jump in, whatever your pleasure!

Hello, Abcdarian. Oh, I hope that you'll find you enjoy it here. Lurk all you like, but participate when/if you'd like. Glad you followed Hayes' link!

Welcome Abcarian, Becky, Jody as well as anyone I might have missed! My glasses are still fogged up from coming in out of the cold!!

Hey everyone! I am not exactly new to the group, I'm a rejoin, but in going through the posts I realized I never did an intro my first time around. Crazy, right? Anyways, I was a member, but was having a hard time keeping up with all my group memberships and felt it was time to cut back. So I did the dumb thing and culled out the group that doesn't have a monthly read. I got read of quite a few others, but really, how crazy can one girl get?
You're too busy, and this group is nothing more than fun and hanging out & you delete the membership? Duh moment.
So I re-evaluated my priorities, cut out some groups with monthly reads that I wasn't real active in, and came back to Comfy. Here I can have fun, there's no pressure, and I get to back with you crazy people. I feel like I'm at home!

You definitely made the right choice, Kristi! I've left groups over the course of the past few years, but I'll always be a Comfy! Welcome back!

Kristi, we're glad you came back! Not having monthly group reads here is purposeful because we know many members have other group commitments. We don't want anyone to feel under pressure to join in the fun!

Hi, Kristi. Welcome back. Yes, I've culled my groups too and I agree this one is appealing because members can participate as little or as much as they'd like, and at whatever level of participation, they're full members of the group.

Hi, Khairu. Welcome to the group! Your site sounds very interesting. I hope you enjoy it in this group. We have many wonderful members.
