Hello, I found this group through looking at Winston Graham's page - I always go back to The Poldark Saga, or Paula by Isabelle Allende. Or Beauty by Sheri S Tepper. Also any Agatha Christie :-)
Hi, Susanna. Welcome to the group. Thanks for starting off by sharing some of your favorite comfort reads with us. Hope you enjoy the group!
Welcome Susanna, I love all the books you mentioned! Paula is one of my all time favourite tear-jerkers. I hope you find many more books to love here.
Hello all from Banning, Ca. (near Palm Springs)I read all genre.
currently reading Every Breath You Take by Judith McNaught.
I need summer to end ... blanket and cuppa makes reading so perfect.
Welcome Shirley, I couldn't agree more about curling up with a good book, a blanket and a cup of tea!
Welcome Shirley and I second what Lee said. I would just add a nice biscuit (sorry, cookie) to the scenario!
Hi, Simran. Welcome to the group. Maybe this group will help you find some new books to read to tide you over until you get your books out of storage.
Hi Simran, thanks for sharing your favourite romance authors. Welcome to the group! We are not so small anymore but everyone is welcome.
Hey everyone! My name is Ryan Malynn, but Ry is just fine. I picked this group out of the thousands because it seemed like the friendliest and most comfortable. (Most suited for me!)I live in Warren, Ohio. I have been married ten years now, and we have and 8 yr old daughter. I have been an avid reader since I was in second grade. I read a little of everything now. I posted my top ten on the other post, but my favorite authors would have to be Debbie Macomber, Nicholas Sparks, Kathy Reichs, Barbara Delinsky, (off the top of my head).
I am in the process of thinking about switching to a Nook reader, so I have the Kindle and Nook for PC on my computer. (Amazon.com and BN.com both have tons of free ebooks for anyone that is interested) I think I'll like the switch, but I'll miss the physical book...but I am going to love being able to carry a library with me! (I'm a book hog!! And read two or three different ones at a time....)
well, a quick intro. Anyone have any questions feel free to ask...I'm an open book. ( sorry, had too.) :0)
Huggs Ry
:D Love the book puns, Ry! Welcome again!
Welcome Ry! I love what you said about the group! It makes me very happy that you chose us for friendliness and comfort.
It's true. It took me a while to choose, and one day I saw you guys and I knew I'd fit in. I love this site, and then the more I explore it, the better it gets...now a whole group of people that find comfort in a great book...its heaven. The only thing missing is our island! I have to say, if it wasn't for Visual Bookshelf being shut down on Facebook, I might not have discovered GoodReads. I have sort of outgrown the FB thing, the games are boring, and other then photo uploads, I don't do a whole lot there. This is my new home :0)

Yes, even including email, I spend over 90% of my online time on Goodreads.
Lisa wrote: "Yes, even including email, I spend over 90% of my online time on Goodreads."Same here. I'm officially a GR addict!
Simran wrote: "Thanks for the warm welcome! I'm new to Goodreads so its taken me awhile to get the hang of things but...so far so good !!!"Stick with it, Simran. There is so much here that even those of us who are long time and frequent users are constantly learning of features new to us, etc. etc.
As well as the new features goodreads keeps adding! :)
I like reading friends' reviews, in order to add books to my tbr pile. I also enjoy getting into impromptu discussions on book review threads.
I like seeing my books on the shelf, too. And, since joining goodreads, I actually write reviews, so I remember why/(what about) I liked or disliked a book

One interesting feature of goodreads is "Follow Reviews". So, if you read a review of a book, and really like the way that person thinks, or writes, you can follow their reviews, and see what they think of other books you add or read. Sometimes you end up being GR friends, and sometimes you don't. It's a nice way to ease into goodreads social aspects.
I love writing and reading reviews, getting to know people all over the world, so much! And I love seeing my shelves and really delight in seeing up all the creative names some members name their shelves.
I've met several movie buffs on goodreads. I have been getting lots of recommendations for classics.
This group has a movie thread, too!

You are getting to know new people right now, on this thread. :)

I love that movie. Who doesn't? :)
I have never seen The Goonies. I did see Gremlins.
It's a teen "horror" movie, I guess. I watched it at the theater many years ago, back when I enjoyed getting frightened.
I always lump the two movies together, but probably shouldn't.

Gremlins is more of a comedy-horror. If you can make it through Sopranos (I've seen it, but don't like it, because I dislike the mobster genre), you can make it through Gremlins very easy. It's not horror like the crap that comes out now, the torture porn genre where they insist on showing you every bit of gore and drop of blood to no reason at all.
Hi everyone, I'm Elizabeth from PA. In addition to enjoying reading, I'm an avid Thoroughbred Racing fan. I found this group while browsing some of the Goodreads groups. It looked like a great one to join, so I did!
My comfort read would be a mystery (Agatha Christie is my favorite) or a horse racing book. Sorry I don't have one particular title to give.
I look forward to getting to know all of you.

Welcome to the group, Elizabeth! Now I know you from two groups. I'm sure you'll find lots of new favorites here.
Hi Elizabeth! Welcome! I hope you feel at home here with us. We are a great group of comfy readers.
Hi, Elizabeth. Welcome to the group! I hope you enjoy it here. We have many wonderful members, and also many great discussion threads, shelved groups, and polls. Have fun!
For me, the best horror films/books are those that horrify because they don't seem too far-fetched. I would vote for "The Shining" in both versions of the movie, and in the novel, as one of the best all-time horror stories. The suspense and tension of the films are enhanced by the musical score: sometimes nothing more than a single note in a high pitch, not too loud, held for some minutes.
Welcome Elizabeth! I, too, love to go to the races and, fortunately, have been very lucky. I once won $2000! (The IRS managed to get some of that tho'!)

Thanks Maude! My biggest score was $1200, which the IRS got some of, too!
