Welcome Jasja! I overlooked you! I am sure you will enjoy it here. There are a lot of good book recommendations.
Hello, all :). Nora Roberts is my favorite comfort read author, but reading just about anything is a comfort activity for me. I'm also in love with my Kindle. I've had it for almost a year now, and it makes it so easy to always have a book with me.
Hello, Debora. Welcome to the group. Hope you enjoy it here. We have many friendly and interesting people, tons of books we've shelved, and some fun discussion threads. We're happy to have you join us.
Hello and welcome Debora! So glad to read I'm not the only one in love with her ereader...hehe. And Nora Roberts ranks very high on my comfort reading list as well.
Thanks Lisa & Eclipse :). The bookshelves are sucking me in... At least e-books are easier to stash! (Now if only my knitting stash could go virtual...)
Hello, I'm Ananda from VA. I have several comfort reads, they all depend on the mood I'm in and what I just finished reading. #1 Flame and the Flower by Kathleen E. Woodiwiss, it was the first romance I ever read when I was 16 and just a plain good re-reader in my opinion. #2 The Women of Silk by Gail Tsukiyama, the journey you take with story is wonderfully bitter sweet. #3 The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield is beautifully twisted and yummy.
Hello, Ananda. Welcome to the group. I've had The Thirteenth Tale languishing on my to-read shelf for far too long. Hope you find more comfort reads because of our members.
Hi Ananda~! I agree with you about how our moods affect what a comfort read might be. Sometimes I just need something fast paced and fun and other times it's all about the characters and mood.
Hello everyone - I'm Sherry from South Bend, Indiana. I'm a retired grandmother who loves historical mysteries (usually with a bit of romance thrown in for good measure!) Many cozies fit right into this description, and the ones that don't make a nice change. I am enjoying seeing what all of you are reading; I will try to contribute as I find books I really enjoy. I'm hoping that being a member of this group won't cause my TBR pile to grow too fast!
Hi Sherry, welcome to the group! I'm afraid your TBR pile is in for it! You won't be able to resist all the great books our members chat about especially if you follow our currently reading thread.
Oh, well....A long time ago I saw a sweatshirt that said "So many books, so little time..." I knew I should have bought that shirt! Even though I'm retired and have lots of time to read, there still isn't enough!
Sherry, I think many of us share your feelings! I know I have more books on my TBR than I could possibly read in my lifetime but I keep adding books anyway.
Welcome, Sherry! This is a wonderful group with lots of suggestions for books. I am sure you will enjoy joining this group.
Hi Sherry. Welcome to the group.Where are you in Indiana? One of my best friends lives in Bloomington and has relatives and friends around the Indianapolis area, especially to the north.
Hope you enjoy the group!
Thanks, Lisa. I am in South Bend, home of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. This afternoon I looked out and all the snow was gone from my back yard - even the shady parts. A little later, I went out on the front porch to get the mail, and the whole screen door was covered with snow. This is not right, I tell you. Silver lining: This has prompted me to have not one, but two drinks.
Hi and welcome, Sherry! We had snow here in Idaho yesterday - in the future I will remember your Silver Lining!
It doesn't look like many folks post here any more, but I love the idea of 'comfort reads.'My choice would have to be "Crazy Ladies" by Michael Lee West. Wonderful, quite Southern collection of belles.
Hi Laurel. Welcome to the group! Some threads here are very active, and if you want to add to or start discussion threads, I'm sure some members will participate. Take a look around at the discussion threads/folders of interest to you. We also have books shelved and always open just for fun polls.
Hi Lisa, Lee, and Brenda! It's very encouraging to get responses from the three of you. I'm fairly new to computers, but have found some amazing people through sites like this. Thanks so much!
Laurel wrote: "I am sure starting to, Brenda. It's quite a blast to navigate this site-I really like what I see!"Laurel, Goodreads is my favorite site on the internet; no other place comes even close. And, this group is full of a bunch of friendly and interesting people. The only downside is your to-read shelf is likely to get out of control.
'Out of control' is exactly how I like it, Lisa! While I am writing to you, I visited your profile page a bit ago and was somewhat thrown by your question. I'd like to be your friend here, but am not sure what the 'answer' is.

I'd like to be your friend here, but am..."Laurel, I like to get to know people (usually over months!) before I friend them here. Otherwise, I'd have 1,000 friends or more and I couldn't keep up with them all. I'm already behind with friends' update emails. Ack!!! I get a lot out of communicating within groups and on members' reviews, and feel as though I know some of those members better than some of my official Goodreads' friends. So, I hope we get to know one another, but I'd probably want to wait to friend each other. I see you're fairly new to the site. When I first joined I was very anxious to make friends here, and then I realized it's better to keep a manageable friends list and that also (if you become active here) you'll get more friends' requests than you can handle. I can almost guarantee you'll have more friends here than you can keep up with, in not that long a time. But, in this group and some other groups, you'll find group members (even if not officially friends) are for all practical purposes friends. If we get to know one another well and have reasonably high agreement in book taste, I'd love to be friends with you at some point. In the meantime, I trust we'll get to know each other better here, and maybe in other groups, on reviews, etc.
Good that you like it out of control. Before I joined Goodreads, I had pared down my to read list from about 800 to about 200. You said you went to my profile page, so you know what happened after not quite 4 years here at Goodreads! Given my age and the fact that I'm a slow reader, and that I add books to that shelf nearly daily, out of control doesn't even begin to describe it.
I completely understand and respect your views on 'friending' folks. I do hope we to know one another and imagine we'll be seeing each other soon!Take care and enjoy being out of control. ;)
Laurel
Thank you, Laurel. And, if I'm remembering my question, I think the answer is "yes" - I hope we get to know one another too. This group rocks! I hope you also find other groups and features on Goodreads that appeal to you.
Hello and welcome Laurel! GR is incredibly addictive isn't it... I was so intending on keeping my TR list modest, but then I don't think I'm going to succeed...I love GR for offering such a fun way of discovering interesting, likeable new books. I am still shocked that I have only been able to find 1 person I know in real life on here... =O . Do my friends not read??? =0/
Lisa, being a slow reader must be a horrible thing when you have so many books that you want to read... but it did remind me of the fact that I once saw something on tv about a speed reading course =oD . Apparently reading fast is something you can learn. I'm a fast reader, when I was young (wait...I'm still young!) and in highschool, my parents wouldn't believe that I finished a book for Dutch or English literature as fast as I did, so they would quizz me...lol. My dad has been jealous ever since he found out I really did finish reading the books in a short time span.
Eclipse, I actually can sort of speed read, but I enjoy savoring most books, especially fiction books. I read quite fast when I was young, but at about age 19 slowed down considerably. It is frustrating. You are lucky you're still such a fast reader. Faster reader, more books read over a lifetime.
Hi Laurel,Check out the different groups, and the bookshelves for this group. You will find more books and your to-read list will swell alarmingly (but in a good way). Happy reading and discussing. Check the chat threads for this group as well :-)
Hi, everyone! I'm Gemma, and my favorite comfort read is Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. I love fast-paced adventure and fantasy, but something about P&P really cheers me up when I'm blue.
Welcome, Gemma! I am a big fan of Jane Austen, too! My favorite is Persuasion. Have fun looking around at all of the threads and say "hi" on the Daily Chat thread, too!
Hi, Gemma. Welcome to the group. The members here have eclectic taste in their comfort books and their are people here who enjoy all the types of books you mention.
Hi Gemma, P & P is one of my favourites too. I hope you feel at home here with all of us comfy readers!
My name is Lori and I've just joined this group. It sounds great and just where I need to be. I have difficulty coming up with a list of my own favorite comfort reads, however. I adore Jane Austen but haven't read too many of her works. I've just finished Pride & Prejudice for the 2nd time and found that book to be what I describe as a comfort. Most books set in England tend to soothe my soul and I've come to the realization that if I was to return to college in these years of my life, I would major in English Lit. Being an American from Ohio, somehow the English works move me as do most other country's author's works. One favorite book that I've read a number of times is by an Englishman, Robert Goddard. The title is
. Currently my favorite book.
Hi, Lori. Welcome to the group! I think you've found a good place to find more comfort read books. Feel free to contribute to any discussion thread. If you don't see one that meets your needs, choose the appropriate folder and feel free to start a thread.
Hi, Lori! I am pleased to report that your problem coming up with a list of books to read is now solved. Unfortunately, it has most likely been exchanged for a different problem: "Now which of these books do I want to read next?" Your to-be-read pile is about to grow exponentially! Enjoy!
Yup, this place is a big enabler of my to-be-read pile. It's gonna outpace my knitting stash any day now.
Hello everyone! My name is Brian Rowe, and I'm a debut author here at GoodReads. My first book SLATE is definitely a comfort read, a fun and sexy novel about a Hollywood casting director who uses her job not to cast actors in movies but to find a new younger man of her own! It's a lot of fun and adult readers of all ages should get a kick out of it. As for my own comfort read? Boy, nothing beats the Harry Potter series for me :)
Hello, Brian. Welcome to the group. There are many other Harry Potter fans here too, including myself.
