Introduce yourself (if you feel like it!)
Hi Patricia, my mom used to live near Erin but now lives south of Hamilton closer to Caledonia. I hope you are enjoying city life.
Hi guys. I am new here and I think I am going to love it here. :)I am Jhae. A 3rd year psychology student from Adamson university. My love for books started when I was in elementary, all thanks to J.K. Rowling. So, yes. I am a very huge Harry Potter fan. I also love Sidney Sheldon. I adore his works. :) I try to read as many books as I can. ^___^
What else about me?
I am a coffee monster. I love drinking coffee. :) I love taking photos although I do not own a decent camera, but one day I will. :)
Hi Jhae! Welcome to the group. It sounds like you will fit right in. :) I am pretty sure a few of our members are re-reading the HP books before the movie premier. Check out the threads and the bookshelves.
Hi, Everyone! My name is Petra. I just joined today. For me, a comfort read changes depending on what I'm in the mood to read. The mood can change depending on how busy and hectic real life becomes.
I hope to join in the discussions here and look forward to meeting you all.
Hi, Petra. Welcome to the group! Looking forward to getting to know you. Participate as much or as little as you'd like. But check out our discussion threads, bookshelves, and also our polls, which remain open. Hope you enjoy it here!
Welcome Petra! I love your profile picture.
Hi Petra! Welcome to the group. Jeannette took the words right out of my mouth, I love your avatar too!
Thanks for the welcome! I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone here. My avatar is a painting by Katy Kianush called Ophelia. It's lovely, isn't it? Unfortunately, she doesn't have it for sale (not that I could afford it anyways) and I've never seen a print of it anywhere. Therefore, I enjoy it as my avatar.
Hi! My name is Kathy. I just found Goodreads about a week or two ago and have started moseying around. I joined the European Roayalty group that had a discussion thread about what started me reading those type of books and I realize that is probably my "comfort" reading. I would always joke that I learned history through osmosis and historical romances. My mother is a reader too and I'd pick up books around the house - Thomas Costain was an early favorite. I also find Phillipa Gregory's books quite enjoyable. Lots more... too many to think of off the top of my head. Your group seems a friendly one and one that will give me lots of leads for books and authors I am unfamiliar with.
Hi, Kathy. Glad that you found this group. Our group members have very eclectic tastes about what are comfort read books. Take a look at the discussion threads, group bookshelves, and polls, and feel free to jump in and participate whenever you'd like.
Thanks for the welcome. I plan to wander around and get to know the terrain. I'll probably pipe up now and then too. Happy reading!
Hi K.K! Welcome to the group! What types of stories do you enjoy reading?
Hi K.K. Welcome to the group! Feel free to take a look at our discussion threads, polls, and bookshelves. Jump in whenever you feel comfortable.
Hi Im Sandi..I didnt get a invite..I was "snooping" around to see what other "Canadian book-club-groups" there are.I love all your very selective & organized folders! So easy to find that perfect read..looking forward to sharing & chatting with others.
Hi, Sandi! We're glad that you've found us. Welcome! Looking forward to getting to know you. We have a very nice bunch of members.
For comfort reading (when time is limited), I often read compelling YA novels with a great plot. I like reading how characters solve problems and overcome obstacles. YA novels have to keep the reader engaged, and because of the fast pace of this genre -- I find that I can burn through a book quite fast.
Hi Loida! Welcome to the group. I enjoy a good YA novel for the same reasons. Check out the group's YA bookshelf. :)
Welcome to the group, Loida! I also love ya book, as do many members here. Feel free to add any of your favorite books in that genre to the young adult thread(s), or start your own thread in the ya folder, and you can add those books to the bookshelves. If you don't want to add the books yourself, Lee or I will add any books mentioned in the discussion threads as being comfort reads.
Hi Loida! I too share your enjoyment of ya books for comfort reading. We'd love to hear about any of your favourites. Welcome!

Hi Thanks :)For YA novels, I think that I will revisit the Wrinkle in Time series along with the other Pippi Longstocking & Anne of Green Gables books I missed reading when growing up.
A non-YA series that I enjoy is the No 1 Ladies' Detective Agency...they are very relaxing.
Lee wrote: "Oh my goodness Sandi! Did I miss your post??? I feel terrible. Welcome, welcome, welcome!"Thank you Lee..not to worry..it must be hard to keep track of everyone! :)
Well, I read all the posts but sometimes I guess my eyes skip over some when I'm going fast. We have a lot of members but only a small percentage actually post on a regular basis so it's not too hard to keep track. Anyways, welcome again! I hope you feel at home.
Hi Lee,I'm Bert Murray and I'm happy to be a new member of Comfort Reads. I love coming of age fiction. So my all time greatest comfort reads would have to be Salinger's The Catcher In The Rye, Knowles' A Separate Peace, Roth's Goodbye, Columbus and Le Grand Meaulnes by Henri Alain-Fournier. A really good new coming of age book is Breath by Tim Winton.

Hi Bert, and welcome to the group. If you love coming of age fiction like Salinger's The Catcher in the Rye, might I suggest you try The New Sufferings of Young W. (Die neuen Leiden des jungen W. in the German original). It is considered by many to be the German "Catcher in the Rye" (I actually like it better, but then I am a bit biased).
Hi Gundula,Thanks for the suggestion! What do you like about it? Why do you like it more than The Catcher In The Rye?

It was just a very good read and I loved all the intertextuality, the references to Goethe and I think he even references Salinger. I don't really know why I liked it better than Catcher in the Rye, maybe because I'm German and I could to a certain extent understand Edgar's problems with his family etc.

Gundula, I am really interested now. I am a fan of German literature and will put it on my list of books to read in 2011. Thanks again for the suggestion! - Bert

You might want to read Goethe's The Sorrows of Young Werther, but it is certainly not essential, although it would help.

Thanks for the welcome Lee! We're almost neighbours indeed. Where is your mother's farm? I lived in the country between Milton and Georgetown for 15 years before moving back into the city.
