Hi Jess! Welcome to the group, we look forward to getting to know you as well. We have lots of fun here so don't be afraid to jump right in!
Hi, I'm Deborah and I love comfort reads. Have been through some of your posts and added a few books to my list and am also pleased to see that others share my guilty comforts. Am surprised that no-one has mentioned the complete Borrowers series, that is a major comfort read for me - Miss Read books, great for long dark nights - any L M Montgomery - Period Piece by Gwen Raverat - the London Child, Girl series by Hughes - any Agatha Christie, why is older crime so comforting? - any book by E F Benson, I just adore Mapp and Lucia - Gerald Durrell - Mara Kay, wish I could get hold of a copy of Masha - Katia by E M Almedingen - any Little House book - Little Women and Good Wives - What Katy Did, the series - Provincial Lady series by Delafield - I Capture the Castle, Dodie Smith - The Dark is Rising series. Gosh, I clearly need a lot of comforting as that is just a 'top of head' list. Look forward to exchanging posts with you all.
Welcome Deborah! You have listed quite a few of my favorites: Christie, "Dark is Rising," ICtC. Looking forward to your posts! :)
Thanks Jeannette, am always on the look out for good comfort reads, especially at the moment as i am on diet so cannot comfort eat!!!!
Hi Deborah! Nice to meet you. I had never heard of E. M. Almedingen so I looked him/her up - quite a lot of titles set in Russia - they look really good. Is Masha-Katia the title of one book? There were a number of copies of Katia for sale on Advanced Book Exchange (#114 was the first listed) and also on Amazon. I didn't see any Masha's but there were a lot of Dasha's (#100 was first listed on ABE).

I think I will have to try that diet myself! lol

Masha is by Mara Kay and it is very hard to find even second hand, the sequel is The Youngest Lady in Waiting (which I do have) and both books are wonderful, about Russia in the Revolution with Masha as the heorine.Katia is by E M Almedingen and is also wonderful - she has written several books set in Russia and a history of the Romanovs. Hope that helps?
Hi Deborah. Welcome to the group. Thanks for sharing so many of your comfort read books. Many of them are on my shelves, mostly my to-read shelf. Have fun! So glad that you've joined us.
Hi Deborah, welcome to Comfort Reads! You've listed a lot of interesting titles including a few new ones for me! I can't wait to see what they're all about. Feel free to jump in anywhere anytime!

Deborah, no need to apologize! There are many threads and lots of books named here by our members. Take your time and hopefully you will find something new to read.

christine, just over the past couple of days have already realised that this is a lovely group - with a name like comfort reads, it had to be.wonder if anyone else is like me in that i prefer my adult books to be over 300 pages and really love huge books so that i feel i have a good solid read that won't run out too quickly. i can never be anywhere without a book - loo, kitchen, always one in my bag and one when i take dog swimming in the river. she swims and i read - great combination!!!
hi ronyell too - what are you reding at the moment?
Deborah,I'm currently reading "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows." So far, the book is pretty good! I can't wait til I get to the ending!

Is this a re-read or a first-read? I love the ending!

Jeannette,This is the first time I actually read this book, so hopefully this book will be as great as the last 6 Harry Potter books!
Well, just like "Goblet of Fire" (imo) it gets a little long in the middle. But the ending is very good and it wraps the series up quite nicely! I am surprised to find someone who hasn't read it yet! :) I know you will enjoy it.
Hi - My name is Nancy and I just joined the group. I love Janet Evanovich. I recently read two new authors. They are Elin Hilderbrand - book is called Barefoot and Kristin Hannah - book is called True Colors. I really enjoyed both authors. Nice to meet all of you!
Nice to meet you, too, Nancy! Welcome to the group.
Hi Nancy. Welcome to the group. Thanks for sharing some of your comfort reads books. Take a look at all the threads, our bookshelves, and our polls, and have fun.
Hi Nancy, welcome to Comfort Reads. It's always lovely to discover new authors isn't it? I hope you find many more to enjoy here.
Fiona wrote: "My favourite authors are Amitav Ghosh, Rose Tremain, Haruki Murakami"Fiona, Either here or in any thread where they belong, feel free to post some of your favorite comfort read books by these authors (and your other favorite authors) and then those not already there will be represented on our group bookshelves.
Welcome, Fiona! I think you'll like it here! :)
Hi Fiona, welcome to the group! I'm sure you'll find quite a few kindred spirits here who share your tastes in comfort reads. We love to chat so jump in whenever you feel the urge.
Hi there! I followed Fiona here. ;) (*Waves* Hi Fiona!)Uhh, so, I'm Becky. I took a peek at the members because I'm nosy and I see quite a few familiar people, but for those who don't know me or know my reading tastes, I'm pretty much all over the board. The only thing that I don't read are bodice-rippers or chick-lit, although that's not a hard and fast rule, because I'll give pretty much any genre a try... 3 or 4 times. :P
I don't really need another group either, but I am a big re-reader, and I love talking about the books that I love, so here I am!
My favorite authors are Stephen King and Jane Austen, and Stephen King books comprise about 80% of my comfort reads. Topping the list would be The Shining, The Stand, which have been read to tatters and replaced I-dunno-how-many-times, and the Dark Tower series. Then, Little Women, for a bit of a departure, then the Lord of the Rings trilogy.
Anyway... Enough babbling about me. It's nice to meet those of you I haven't met yet, and good to see the people I have! :)
Welcome Becky! I love Austen and LotR!! :)
Hi Becky! I hope you have fun with us. You are welcome to start a conversation about any of your favourites in the appropriate threads. Please let us know if you have any questions after exploring a bit.
Thanks! I'm poking around a bit and this already seems like a nice, cozy group. My kind of place. :)
Fiona wrote: "You copycat! Good thing I like you. Welcome Becky."Well... err... Imitation is the highest form of flattery and all that. O_o
And thanks! ;)
Oh good, Becky is here too! Hi!
and Hi again Fiona and Nancy and any one else I missed.
and Hi again Fiona and Nancy and any one else I missed.
Hi!I joined this group a while ago, but I'm not sure if I ever actually introduced myself.
I'm Rayna. I read a lot. That's about it.
I don't know what my favorite comfort read is. There are so many. I read books in a lot of different genres and some of them are comforting in different ways. Some of my best comfort reads are probably the YA books that I've read too many times to count. I'm also a huge Harry Potter fan, so there's that... I'll try to think of other good comfort reads and post them as suggestions.
Hi Hayes! I thought that was you but I didn't recognize your avi! :PHi Rayna, welcome to the group! :)
Hi Rayna. Welcome to the group. Many of us are like you; we have eclectic taste in books.Feel free to vote in our polls, check our the group's bookshelves, and take a look at al our threads and jump in whenever you like. If you want to share any comfort reads as you think of them, you can post in the appropriate genre threads.
