Becky (beckyofthe19and9) | 3034 comments Mod
You should ask Kandice, Jon. I haven't read that one, but I've always thought that it was contemporary.

message 103: by Becky, Moddess (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) | 3034 comments Mod
Pretty sure it's contemporary- not HF.

message 104: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thenightowl) | 2033 comments I thought it was contemporary too. I wanted to use it but decided not too.

message 105: by Jon (new)

Jon | 303 comments probly is, was clutching at straws again lol. it does seem to be older women reflecting on their youths or something so prob some form of period in there but not sure anythings specified until actually reading it

message 106: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thenightowl) | 2033 comments LOL.

Hey Becky, can you post the board on where we all stand point wise?

message 107: by Becky, Moddess (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) | 3034 comments Mod
Errr, yeah. I've been slacking there, so it'll be a bit. =\ *bad mod*

message 108: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thenightowl) | 2033 comments LOL. Thanks :D

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) Although it is a mix of flashbacks and current events, I would also say it is contemporary, mostly because the flashbacks don't really seem to have a historical context, or flavor? If that makes sense.

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) | 3120 comments Would The Golden Road, Chronicles of Avalon and Further Chronicles of Avalon by L M Montgomery be considered historical fiction?

message 111: by Becky, Moddess (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) | 3034 comments Mod
I don't think that would count Jayme. It seems to me that they were contemporary when they were written.

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) | 3120 comments that's what i thought

message 114: by Jeane (new)

Jeane (icegini) Would Empire of the Suncount for task 20.2, civil war or revolution?

message 115: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thenightowl) | 2033 comments I think so.

message 116: by Jeane (new)

Jeane (icegini) Great! Thanks. :-)

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) | 3120 comments Would The History of the Siege of Lisbon be considered historical fiction? It does talk about historical events.

message 118: by Becky, Moddess (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) | 3034 comments Mod
I'll allow that one.

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) | 3120 comments cool! I can use it for the tier task.

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) | 3120 comments For the revolution/civil war task, does it have to be in that exact time period or can we have some leeway like the book takes place in 1850 or 1792.

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) | 3120 comments Okay another question, for task 40.1, read two books from the American West, I have some historical books that take place in the Pioneer tomes, One of them is about the Perkins Blind School. Can I use that? It is about a real place and a real teacher. Then another one takes place in that time period too.

message 122: by Becky, Moddess (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) | 3034 comments Mod
Revolution/civil war: I'll allow books that aren't specifically about these, but they should have a direct correlation to them. (I'll leave it up to you to let me know how it qualifies.)

40.1 - yes.

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) | 3120 comments I know one is related to slavery.(1850) The other is a love story that takes place in 1792.

message 124: by Maude (new)

Maude | 732 comments OK Becky - I will just type it in the post on the Challenga site. Will that be OK?

message 125: by Becky, Moddess (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) | 3034 comments Mod
Sure. :) I'll let you know if I need additional information or anything. I'm sure it will be fine though.

message 126: by Maude (new)

Maude | 732 comments Becky, for Challenge Task No. 10.3 - does that mean either fiction or nonfiction?

message 127: by Becky, Moddess (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) | 3034 comments Mod
10.3 can be any genre, so yes, fiction or non-fiction is fine. :)

message 128: by PDXReader (new)

PDXReader Hi Becky - I'm new to this, but I thought I'd give it a try & see how it goes.

When a challenge item says "any genre," does that mean it doesn't have to be historical fiction? Sorry for the newbie question!

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) | 3120 comments any genre means anything historical, fiction, nonfiction, scifi fantasy

message 130: by PDXReader (new)

PDXReader Well, that pretty much covers it. Thanks.

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) | 3120 comments glad to help

message 132: by Jeane (new)

Jeane (icegini) Would Inkheartcount for the 25 points for Toni's or Jayme's task?

message 133: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thenightowl) | 2033 comments It would count for Jayme's tasks since it falls under fantasy.

message 134: by Jeane (new)

Jeane (icegini) Thanks, I thought it would more be the contrary:-)

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) | 3120 comments Inkheart would count for mine.

message 136: by Jeane (new)

Jeane (icegini) Would 'the tree of seasons' count for the summer title? I know it is a bit.... but the book is about the four seasons and happening the day summer starts.

message 137: by Becky, Moddess (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) | 3034 comments Mod
I'd count that, Jeane.

message 138: by Jeane (new)

Jeane (icegini) Great! :-)

message 139: by LemonLinda (new)

LemonLinda (lwilliamson0423) | 626 comments I think I will change my book for Jayme's task to Mockinjay, the third in Suzanne Collins series (1st was The Hunger Games). The third one comes out in August. It is set in the future in the nation of Panem.

message 140: by Becky, Moddess (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) | 3034 comments Mod
I love the HG series! :D I can't wait for Mockingjay to come out, but I don't think that I'll be able to read it when it comes out unless there's some sort of miracle and my library orders a copy.

message 141: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thenightowl) | 2033 comments That is one that I definitely plan on buying because I need to know what happens. Becky you are more than welcome to borrow my copy when done.

message 142: by Becky, Moddess (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) | 3034 comments Mod
Awesome! ;)

message 143: by Nikki (new)

Nikki (vegancleopatra) | 120 comments We don't need to list our titles for the individual sections anywhere do we? We just post them under the challenge as we complete each book?

message 144: by Becky, Moddess (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) | 3034 comments Mod
That's right. :)

message 145: by LemonLinda (new)

LemonLinda (lwilliamson0423) | 626 comments 10.2 Read a book about real or current events - any time period

Need to verify a book for this one. I want to read Schindler's List by Thomas Keneally which is a HF novel based on a real person and real events, but just wanted to make sure that will work for this task.

Thanks.

message 146: by Becky, Moddess (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) | 3034 comments Mod
Yep, that one's fine. :)

message 147: by LemonLinda (new)

LemonLinda (lwilliamson0423) | 626 comments I am changing my 15.2 HF mystery to The Thirteenth Tale. I knew it was a mystery but was not sure what time period it was set it but saw that goodreads shows it as a mystery and as historical fiction.

message 148: by Becky, Moddess (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) | 3034 comments Mod
OK that's fine - You can list these types of changes in the main challenge thread... That way I can be sure I won't miss it. Thanks! :)

message 149: by Tasha (new)

Tasha I'm new to this group and challenge and have a couple of questions:

Do I have to plan out all my books for the challenge from the start or can I decide as I complete each challenge and move on to the next? Although I don't think I can not plan as I am a planner and love to research which books I want to read :)

Books that are the month's reads (I, Claudius), can they count as well towards the challenge?

Thanks!

message 150: by Tasha (new)

Tasha I found the answer to my first question be reading back posts!
