Please let us know if you've read the book! No spoilers please - we'll set up some topics for more in-depth discussion later.

Marty (martyjm) | 310 comments I started my reread but as this is my first week back to work I am not getting much reading done although i have enjoyed it so far and am looking forward to it.

Kelly (sisimka) I am having such a hard time getting into this book. I'm disappointed as I was really looking foward to reading it. I read Worlds of Weber last year that had two prequel novellas in it. After reading them I had higher expectations. But after a week of having my eyes glaze over while I'm waiting for some character development. I think I'll be putting this one aside for now. It's at the library, I can get it back out anytime.

Kelly (Maybedog) (maybedog) I'm having the same problem. I've picked it up three times but I can't get past the whole cat thing. It just seems absurd and contrived and oh what's the word, like it's to satisfy his own fantasy idea rather than for the betterment of the book.

Kelly (sisimka) Now the treecat I understand because of the novella I read. It was about how humans first discovered them. Had I not read the novella, I can see how it would seem rather contrived.

Kelly (Maybedog) (maybedog) That helps. Which novella was it? I'm guessing it's one of the ones in Worlds of Weber?

Kelly (sisimka) Yup... If you're interested it is available as an ebook on Baen's website. Their webscriptions are very reasonably priced. Otherwise you may have to just find it at a library or bookstore. It was released in MMP not too long ago.

I actually just noticed that the eBook of On Basilisk Station itself is available for free from Baen:

I'm not much into eBooks myself, but you can't argue with the price point here...

Ken (ogi8745) | 1438 comments I downloaded that, got halfway through and decided to buy the book, I am not a big e-reader, I like my paper.

I really enjoyed reading the book

Laurel I finished reading Basilisk Station last night, and immediately requested the sequels from the library. Why didn't I discover space opera before?!
