Harold Smithson | 123 comments I'm Harold Smithson and I'm someone who was born in Albania who currently lives in Wisconsin. I love young adult books and all books in general as long as they're good. I've organized two contests so far and have been a terrible host for the second one. I hope to make up for that in the third...

Favorite book: All Quiet on the Western Front

So in the event of a Civil War I'm going to have to be like Mayor Prentiss?

Harold Smithson | 123 comments Hello, Leandra! Welcome to Goodreads, and no, you're not alone. (I borrowed The Schwa Was Here because of the cover. A different edition than the main one shown on Goodreads)

message 1408: by David (new)

David Estes (davidestesbooks) | 99 comments Hi Leandra!! Good to have another 16yo trapped in an adult body lol, I know exactly what you mean!

Harold Smithson | 123 comments Oh, by the way, I submitted (Fairly recently) a story of mine into a writing contest. I'd like it if you guys could critique my work. (Here's the link: http://www.goodreads.com/story/show/2...) It's the prologue and first chapter to a book I plan to write, so please look at it and give me constructive criticism.

LOL! I swear I'm losing my mind too sometimes. My wife asks me to do something and I'm about to do it, get distracted, and then she asks five minutes later and I've totally forgotten!

In any case, wow, thank you so much!! You are too kind, I really hope you enjoy it, I've poured my heart into this series :)

Scott McCloskey | 8 comments Hello all,

Just wanted to say hello. I like the idea of this group - YA fiction for adults (who says YA has to stay, well...for YA only?)

Anyway, I just finished writing my first YA fantasy novel and am hoping to get involved with some great discussion groups. Hope to see you all around the group!

I love my Indonesia covers although I have only seen them online. The publisher hasn't sent me copies and I would love to get them, maybe trade some US books for them. Anyway, nice to meet you here!!! I love mystery novels, too.

message 1427: by April (new)

April | 2 comments Hi Everyone. I'm a PTA mom, former P.I., screenwriter and film producer, and my debut novel, Marking Time (YA urban fantasy) was just published in November. I'm currently researching Elizabeth Tudor for book two, but the last YA books I read were The Thief and Queen of Attolia for the second time, this time out loud to my 9-year-old son - who loved them!

message 1432: by DJ (new)

DJ Harris (dj6ual) | 1 comments My name is DJ Harris (aka DJ6ual). My favorite author is Christopher Moore, but lately I have been reading a lot of Aaron Powell .

I tend to be drawn to post-apocalyptic, patriotic, and humor books, but I will read (and review) just about anything!

I have an eReader (Kindle) but I hate it! I love the feeling of holding a real book as I thumb through the pages and go on a new adventure with the turn of the page! I don't think I'll ever be a big fan of all this new book technology.

I love making new friends, so everyone can feel free to add me if they like. If you need a review, a vote, a comment, or anything else just let me know and I'll do my best to help you out.

For more information on me, or my blog, stop by my GoodReads page and check out my profile.

Hello everyone! My name is Kaitlyn and I am a HUGE fan of YA books. I'm also a published author of this YA Paranormal book here: Avenging Amethyst (Immortal Eyes, #1) by Kaitlyn Price

I would love it if you could check it out! Thanks!

David Estes (davidestesbooks) | 99 comments Welcome to this group too Kaitlyn :)

message 1437: by S.K. (new)

S.K. Munt (wordwhisperer) Hi I'm Sammy. I'm an author but not YA so no spamming, I swear :) I'm 30, and a hot mess-mama from Australia. I love young adult, but I think I might be growing out of it a little and I don't want to so I'm here looking for some recs. Mind-blowing recs.
I grew up on a diet of Blume and Cooney and I can still read them over and over. I'm a BIG Twilight fan, and the first 2 Hunger Game books (let's not talk about the third, okay? Lol) And I enjoyed 'The Elite' (not so much The Selection) and the first Divergent book was pretty good. I'm trying to avoid all the vampire/angel/werewolf ones in general.
I want stories that are different from all the others. I think the only YA to-read I have is Killing Sarai-I just have to finish some others first.

message 1438: by David (new)

David Estes (davidestesbooks) | 99 comments Welcome Sammy!! Awesome intro and thanks for not spamming :)

message 1439: by Justus (new)

Justus Stone (jrstone) | 2 comments Hey Everyone, My name's Justus, and I am *ahem* a bit older, but still find plenty to love in YA books. I mostly enjoy urban paranormal such as the Mortal Instruments, or dystopians like the Divergent series.

I've published two books in a YA series called The Bleeding Worlds (I won't mention them again). I just enjoy the incredible freedom that YA offers. Characters have such potential for growth because of the stage of their life and it's just incredibly flexible in terms of the varying genres it embraces.

Looking forward to your discussions and recommendations.

message 1450: by Lawrence (new)

Lawrence (lawrencetabak) Happy to find this club -- I've been on a little binge, reading YA offerings from well-established adult novelists, which seems right in line with this group. Last two reads were NOW YOU SEE HER by bestselling author Jackie Mitchard and SLAM by HIGH FIDELITY (among others) author Nick Hornby. Might even write a roundup of this experience when I get enough (my last such essay showed up book site themillions.com). Let me know if you have other nominations.
