Where do you live? Are you in the US? I don't know about other places, but most libraries have books (audio and ebook) that you can check out online. My local library has a very dinky supply, but I also belong to three other libraries across my state. It's through Inter-library loan. You should check to see if your library does that. Two of my libraries just added a ton of books!
No, not in USA .... actually, not even close... way way over the ocean .... somewhere where books are all dusty and old, and not even in english .... Oooohhhh !! Suspence !!
Mirza, where are you located? I'm in the Philippines so it's pretty far too but luckily, we get English books here.
Chachic wrote: "Mirza, where are you located? I'm in the Philippines so it's pretty far too but luckily, we get English books here."I'm close to you, in Bangladesh. But we barely get english books here, and never the recent ones. All we have is this one second hand book market, and so, i have to resort to the net for any outside news of new books.
Mirza, that's so sad that you don't get a lot of English books there. You should definitely read e-books instead so you can still get your fill of books.
Thanks, Chachic and Bluemoon. It totally does suck. All i have are e-books that are all free and great but its really hard reading then sitting in front of a pc.
But at least i do have them to read, that's all I need.
Chachic wrote: "I know! It's hard to read on the computer, that's why I want an e-reader."Yeah, I'l looking forward to buying an e-reader. It'll be much better then.
Hi Im sandi. Im new here as well..Im so glad there is a group for group for YA for adults! I love to read these books cause they make me feel young again!I LOVED the twilight series & can hardley wait for edwards book! Ive read the graceling & fire.Im reading anastasia's secret right now by susanne dunlap..need a hankie for this one!I love YA with historical backrounds..mystery..I was thinking of picking up the vampire academy series..but not sure on them? I would love to hear any "you should try" from others! looking forward to sharing with everyone!
Welcome Sandi! :) I'd recommend Eva Ibbotson historical books for you. My favorites are A Countess Below Stairs and The Reluctant Heiress.
Welcome Sandi! Edwards book? Do you mean Midnight Sun? Have you heard that she is intending too finish it because last I heard she was to pissed at the leak to finish it. Oh and I really liked the Vampire Academy series - Rose is kick ass.
Agreed Jaimie, I loved reading Vampire Academy. Sandi you should for sure read them! And I don't think she will ever finish Midnight Sun :(
I read Stephenie's rant on her website and it just doesn't look very promising. At one point she said "As for me and vampires, we're on a break" (or something alone those lines)
Welcome Sandi! If you like YA with a historical background my favorites are all by Juliet Marillier starting with her Sevenwaters series. Beautiful stories based on fairytales with history woven in.
Thank-you chachic! Im going to check them out..and any others you can think of would be great ..not sure of the author..but I keep picking up a book called luxe? have I got that right? others in the series?
hi jaimie..ok Im confused..I heard about that one..but the one I keep seeing advertised in the stores is'the short second life of bree tanner' then it says "a eclipse novella"..so whats this? I also read the host and I really liked it..think a 2nd book will come out?
hi becca..I have ALL her books!! love em !!:)I had to re-read the series...cause the last book has been so long after coming out. I find with YA books the wait in series is not so long in between books..as in adult books.
Bree tanner is one of the baby vamps in Eclipse that the Volturi end up killing after the big battle. She wrote a short story about a very very small character but it is not the same as Edwards book Midnight Sun. MS was actually really fun to read - the whole 10 unedited chapters that she posted on her website for a short time. Oh and I like the Luxe series - lots of drama but pretty good all the same.
thank-you all for such a warm welcome! so glad I found this group..and Im checking out all the books recommended!!..good-bye paycheck..
oh duh...totally forgot the name! I was in such a rush reading eclipse to find out the end!! and I missed the chapters of midnight sun on her website :(computer was down for awhile. thanks jaimie

What an international group! I'm in Japan! How are the Philippines? I almost went to visit there.
Jason wrote: "What an international group! I'm in Japan! How are the Philippines? I almost went to visit there."It's pretty great! But then again, maybe I'm biased because I've lived here my whole life? Haha. If you want to explore tropical beaches then it's a great place to go. Let me know ff you ever need tips on what places to visit!
Bluemoon and other Twi fans: She basically said the same thing on Oprah when she was there for an interview just before the second movie came out. She said something along the lines of..."I can't finish it because part of the story was leaked, so it's too much pressure. There's no way I'll ever finish it..." Not a direct quote, but the basic gist was, sucks for you all because I'm selfish and want to teach you all a lesson for prying into my privacy. So basically, anything that gets leaked before she finishes won't ever be finished because she's just that way.
that really IS selfish..& and what a let down to all her fans...but hey $$$ talks..my bet is it will happen...
Sandi wrote: "that really IS selfish..& and what a let down to all her fans...but hey $$$ talks..my bet is it will happen..."Actually, souldn't she be happy that people liked her books so much that someone bothered to leak it online and we took the pain to download and read it !!
And she could always change the plot ... she's the creator !!
Oh Heidi, now, now, be nice. Some of us can't help ourselves and to us, it is our 'crack'. Heh-heh..Heard the same thing about SM and it doesn't surprise me. Her loss, our loss and no one wins. Wonder if that makes her happy or does it upset her that she isn't the only one let down..
Also, you do know that any money she makes, at least 10% goes to the Church???
A friend of mine said that when someone's head gets bigger, the harder the fall is for them...When authors get too cocky or full of themselves, then I usually step back and give my $$ to someone who really deserves it..
I've been having a few hard days at work and I e-mailed a friend who use to work there (was my supe) regarding the problems. I always go to him as it comforts me. When he replied back with that statement, I felt better and realized just how true it is..
Why is it that a person who disliked Twilight so much knows what was said in SM's Oprah interview about said disliked book? *cough* Becca *cough* Just sayin'. ;)
I am sure that at some point, probably after the all the movies are out and she has released every small character building writing piece she has sitting around she will finish it. It is an easy way to become relevant again once the hype of Twilight has passed. Don't get me wrong I loved Twilight and I really liked The Host, I just think SM is content with her current fame/status and doesn't intend to do much of anything for awhile.
Bluemoon & Becca - Fess up, why don't you like Twilight????Jaimie, you might have something there. I've heard mixed reviews regarding The Host. Haven't really felt like reading it..
I watch Oprah occassionally and was surprised when I saw SM there. It intrigued me and I wanted to see what she had to say about the books/movies. It was an enlightening interview. Like I said, I think she's a decent author. I liked The Host, she's just not one of my fav's. If you want to read why I don't like Twilight go ahead and look up the disappointing books thread. It's all there.
Bluemoon & Becca, OK, I appreciate the thoughts. I can understand why you don't like the books. I didn't think I was going to go as insane as I did but I guess at times it OK to go a little mad... (quick, which movie is that somewhat quote from???)
Bluemoon - No killing going on here. Totally understand that the books and actors aren't everyone's cup of tea. I'm not going to cram my love for the series down someone's throat, just like I don't want anyone cramming their hate down my throat. But I do love to joke about it. :)
Hope I'm in the right place...So I'm Kait Nolan, shameless YA book addict. All this awesome stuff just came out about ten years later than it needed to to hit me at the target age. I love it anyway! I've been on a huge YA kick lately, plowing through everything from The Mortal Instruments trilogy (which I'm rereading now), anything by Maggie Stiefvater (can't WAIT for Linger!), Sarah Rees Brennan's books, and just about anything fairy. I just added Wicked Lovely to my TBR list to start when I finish rereading City of Bones. Looking forward to getting some new book suggestions here!
Welcome, Kait! This group will feed your addiction!
Welcome! Good to have you Kait. We're all addicts or we wouldn't be here. Be prepared for you tbr pile to grow exponentially.
Welcome Kait! I really liked Maggie Stiefvater and Sarah Rees Brennan's books (can't wait for the final book in The Demon's Lexicon trilogy!) For other faery books, you might want to check out these books by Holly Black: Tithe, Valiant and Ironside. Her work has been compared with Melissa Marr's. Also, I'm currently reading The Iron King, which is about faeries too.
I actually just read Valiant recently (didn't realize that it wasn't the first--WHY isn't the first one available in ebook?), and also recently bought The Iron King to read. Sarah's a friend from way back--we met forever ago in LJ Smith's Nightworld fanclub (which is what was available when I WAS a teenager) and hooked up to hang out while I was studying abroad in college. She's a hoot and a half, which, of course you can see from her books!
Aww hope you find a copy of Tithe soon. Your friends with Sarah Rees Brennan? She really is hilarious. I follow her blog as well and I love the summaries that she does for her book recommendations. They are so funny. Also, I know there's a thread in here somewhere for Lament and Ballad.
