Jaimey (jaimeygrant) | 97 comments I know! I remember those days, too. I did write big to fill the page. The funny thing was, I could talk a person's ear off but getting me to write as much as I could talk was almost impossible. :oP

I love that site. Here are some others who do gorgeous backgrounds that are really easy to use:

Jaimey (jaimeygrant) | 97 comments Making friends isn't a bad idea. It takes a bit of time to balance out how much time should be spent on each online activity, but friends can help keep you on course.

I've sent you a friend request. I hope I wasn't presumptuous in doing so. :o)

Have a lovely day!

7 day word count: 4854
Year to date count: 23,409
NaNo novel word count: 89,030

My novel word count went down because on the 27th I cut almost 8000 words. They now reside in the deleted scenes file.

message 78: by Paul (new)

Paul Must be almost finished now, Jaimey :)

message 79: by Jaimey (new)

Jaimey (jaimeygrant) | 97 comments I'm getting there, Paul. Ive reached the point where everyone is where they need to be. Meanwhile, a mystery has opened up that makes a second book necessary...I hate politics.

message 80: by Jaimey (new)

Jaimey (jaimeygrant) | 97 comments Wow. I haven't posted in here for all of February? Sheesh. I'm so lazy.

Anyway, I finished the initial draft of my fantasy novel (the one I started for NaNo09). The word count, as it stands, is 104,621. It is the longest novel I have ever written. After one quick read-through, I will pass it off for critiques. I'm excited to be done, anxious to get back to work on my Regencies, and nervous to think about what feedback I will get. It will be a learning experience. :o)

message 81: by Malin (new)

Malin (tusenord) Do you have friends to do the critiques or are you in any writing workshop ?

message 82: by Jaimey (new)

Jaimey (jaimeygrant) | 97 comments I have friends and writing acquaintances who have been lined up for months to get at this MS. There are also a few who I do not know at all, 'friend of a friend' types. They'll probably all be horribly disappointed. (Sorry, I'm mostly a pessimist.) Some are writers, some are readers, some like fantasy, some have never read fantasy before, some read everything they can get their hands on, some don't read much at all. I'm hoping I have enough variety to get a really broad look at the thing.

message 83: by Malin (new)

Malin (tusenord) It's called "realist" - and I'm one too :D

Sounds like a good mix of people - and like you got a lot of them! I'm always jealous of writers that have lots of guineapigs for their manuscripts.

message 84: by Jaimey (new)

Jaimey (jaimeygrant) | 97 comments So I've passed off the fantasy novel for critiques, already gotten feedback from two readers (quite positive so far) and started another project for a writing group. My poor Regencies are still waiting in the wings for the day I can pick them back up.

I've been making my 200 word goal with frightening ease lately. I suspect that will end soon. (Sorry, pessimism again.)

Um...I've been updating my website, writing blog posts and causing general online mayhem. OK, not really, but it's a nice thought. :o)

That's it for now. Oh, word counts for February:

NaNo novel total: 107,069 (official rough draft total)
Short story I'm working on: 1883
Monthly total: 18,937
Year to date total: 43,331

Happy writing, everyone!! :o)

message 85: by Jaimey (new)

Jaimey (jaimeygrant) | 97 comments I'm baaack! Over a month and no posts. I'm pathetisad.

Updates...updates...hmmm...

I have received more critiques on my fantasy novel but I haven't actually looked them all over yet. That alone will be time consuming. The response has been wonderful so far.

Meanwhile, my currently published books have been getting some lovely positive attention lately. I'm happy that I don't have to spend as much time marketing them now. It's lovely to spend more time writing. :o)

I've been writing a lot of short stories lately. One is Regency but not romance, three are fantasy, and one is a contemporary romance that's so sweet it makes my teeth ache to read it. Such a happy little story. Of the three fantasy, one is a prequel to my dragon novel, one is practically flash fiction and the other is just weird.

I've been fairly good at keeping up with my daily word count goal but I've been editing too. I've also been critiquing for others so all of this is time consuming but in a positive way. All in all, writing is going very well. :o)

I recently read Mistress of Rome by Kate Quinn. What an awesome read that was! It was pretty violent but it takes place in 1st century Rome, so it would have been odd if there was no violence. I haven't posted my review to goodreads yet but it's on my book reviews blog if anyone's interested: Romance, Old School

Jaimey (jaimeygrant) | 97 comments May...June...

And now it's July. Sheesh.

News and updates. I write or revise or edit every day. Word counts? Haven't got a clue at this point.

Meanwhile, I've been picked up by a small publisher. (For details on how that happened, check out my blog: How I Got Published When I Wasn't Looking For a Publisher)

My next Regency romance novel, Deception, will be released July 15. Sometime in August (I believe), a YA anthology called Unlocked, in which I have two stories, will be released as a free download. So...busy, busy.

The fantasy novel I wrote for NaNo last year languishes away on my hard drive, awaiting the day when I'm brave enough to actually read the critiques. For NaNo this year I'm considering writing the sequel. That's right, I said sequel.

I have at least three more Regencies in the works and the possibility of re-releasing my self-published titles with my publisher. Of course, this means tons of editing and very little actual writing. Still, editing is a very important part of the writing process.

Speaking of editing, I have to get back to it. I just wanted to catch everyone up...everyone who is interested, that is. :o)

message 87: by Paul (new)

Paul You sound as stretched as I've been, Jamie. Very little except a few short stories for me since my last post here. But I now have nine weeks of editing and writing to look forward to.

message 88: by Jaimey (new)

Jaimey (jaimeygrant) | 97 comments Hi Paige and Paul! Thanx for stopping by!

While I'm here I might as well update where I'm at in my writing goals.

Today I've written 557 words on my new assassin novel, bringing the novel total to 4731. I'm not done writing today. (My assassin novel is about a female assassin in Regency London. It is connected to one of the short stories (Assassin's Keeper) in the Unlocked anthology. Title for the novel is I'll Never Sleep. This title may change at some point.)

I looked at the pics you sent and I'm still leaning toward #4. However, the pink flowers are bugging me with all the red...I'll work on it more later...

message 91: by Jaimey (new)

Jaimey (jaimeygrant) | 97 comments More updates...

Unlocked was released August 13 and is available at www.unlockedproject.com for free download.

Editing Honor is not going as quickly as I'd hoped. I still have my beta readers lined up, waiting patiently for its arrival in their inbox.

Now I have an injured kitten to tend to and a vet to call for advice. Poor wee thing. He's a fighter, though, and hubby's already attached so we'll try to save him.

message 92: by Jaimey (new)

Jaimey (jaimeygrant) | 97 comments Wow. I should have updated sooner. The poor wee kitten I mentioned in my previous comment died. It was awful. I wrote a blog post about what was wrong with him. Read at your own risk. SERIOUSLY!! It's really, really gross.

Not For the Faint of Heart

I'm still not done editing Honor, although I have rewritten a few scenes. I've been brainstorming on my other novels, one very closely connected to Honor. Another one received an additional 1300 words a couple weeks ago, words that were very hard to write and had me choking up. But, emotionally draining is what I do best so I will persevere until "the end."

Happy reading and writing, all!

Jaimey (jaimeygrant) | 97 comments So....anyone doing NaNo this year?

message 94: by Callie (new)

Callie (neverlandcallie) I think I might...I'm scared that I'll be so busy with homework I won't have time, but I'm going to do my best.

message 95: by Jaimey (new)

Jaimey (jaimeygrant) | 97 comments I actually wrote quite a bit yesterday on a book I'm editing. Of course, I cut a bunch first and I'm actually just rewriting the end. Still, it's writing and that's the point, right?

I have a ton of prep work to do for NaNo. I'm not sure I just wanna wing it, but that's probably what will end up happening anyway.

My newest Regency romance, Deception, is in a Goodreads Giveaway. I thought I'd mention it, just in case anyone is interested in entering. There's a link on the book page. :o)

message 97: by Jaimey (new)

Jaimey (jaimeygrant) | 97 comments I wrote 1597 words yesterday, rewriting the end of a rough draft. I'm not entirely sure I like this ending better but it probably makes more sense than the previous ending.

message 98: by Jaimey (new)

Jaimey (jaimeygrant) | 97 comments Wow. I can't believe how long it's been since I posted here. My bad. :O(

I have a new book out with TreasureLine Publishing, released May 15. YAY for that! (See the cover below.)

I design book covers now. My gallery can be found at www.anauthorsart.com . I still write, of course, but I love designing covers almost as much.

I've started writing a new novel, one different from my other Regencies in that it's more amusing than dark. I'm having fun working on it.

That's all for now. I hope everyone's writing dreams are coming true. :O)

Honor by Jaimey Grant

message 99: by Jaimey (new)

Jaimey (jaimeygrant) | 97 comments Hi, it's me again. I really need to do better at keeping up with this group. I have not been making my 200 words a day (isn't that what I proposed I'd do?) but I have been writing a short story every week (between 250-1000 words) for the last month or so. They're all posted at www.cleverfiction.com if anyone wants to check them out. http://www.cleverfiction.com/jaimey-g...

I did manage to edit one of my short stories for publication; it's just under 5000 words. My publisher and I are working out a few kinks in the formatting but otherwise, it's done. Here's the cover I did for that one:

It's related to the fantasy novel I wrote for NaNo a couple years ago.

I hope everyone's writing is progressing nicely. I imagine most of the group is planning to participate in NaNo this year? I doubt I will but nothing's definite. :O)

Happy writing!!

message 100: by Jaimey (new)

Jaimey (jaimeygrant) | 97 comments OK, it's 2012 and my obsessions are back. I wrote a blog post about my writing goals for this year and heading that list is the re-release of my {previously} bestselling novel, Heartless. (I need to get this done. People are contacting me about wanting this book and they're not willing to pay $500 for a used copy on Amazon.) I also have plans for a new Regency release, Intrigue, which has already been contracted by TreasureLine Publishing. Then I have several more stories to finish. So...

I always had a goal of 200 words per day, and I was really bad about keeping it. Now, I plan to write at least 1000 on days I'm not editing. Editing usually takes ALL of my attention but then I'm done in a few days.

The problem now is the book covers. I'm committed to several, have several more penciled in for the rest of the year, and those are what really take away from my gaming—I mean, my writing time. :Op

Oh and the fantasy short story I mentioned before (The Dragon's Birth) was released Nov 4. It's $0.99 everywhere eBooks are sold. :O)

So, goal for 2012: Get Heartless back on the virtual shelves & write 1000 words per day on Temptation, Flawless, or Retribution...or the as yet unnamed fantasy romance I'm co-authoring with Linda Boulanger...or the episodic novel about my Regency assassin...

I'm pretty sure my year is all filled up. YAY!
