ooh sorry! didn't reaslise they weren't called that in the US - yes they're just gift vouchers for books - giftcards now. - They're for Waterstones, which is probably the biggest bookshop chain here in the UK.

I can't wait to go book shoping now!

Ally

message 21: by SarahSaysRead (new)

SarahSaysRead Sue and Jo, I'm watching The Princess Bride right now! I rented it from the library - I think I'm going to start the book soon.

message 24: by Cammie (new)

Cammie | 785 comments I didn't get any books for Christmas. I got a $40 gift card so I got Love Finds You in Treasure Island, Florida by Debby Mayne, Love Finds You in Lonesome Prairie, Montana by Tricia Goyer and a two in one book Lonestar Sanctuary by Colleen Coble and Sweetwater Gap by Denise Hunter.

message 25: by Renee (new)

Renee (reneebergeron) I didn't get any books either....but, I got a giftcard to B&N. They aren't really close to my house, so I think I'll do some online shopping. I don't know what I'm going to buy. I usually buy used books, so I think I'll save the card for those new releases that aren't available used yet.

I bought my daughter about 6 new books for Christmas. Got her 5 Camp Confidentials, and then the book Tithe. She is 11, and a very advanced reader, so I'm trying to transition her into some YA books. She has been resisting, but she reads these kids books in one day. Time to move up. :-)

message 26: by Christy B (new)

Christy B (runaway84) I got the following:

The Secret of Lost Things A Novel

The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo was one of my favorite reads of 2009.

message 45: by Nancy (new)

Nancy My friend got me the most beautiful big 'coffee-table' book "The Quilt: A History And Celebration of an American Art Form." It's going to take me a while to get through the photos and writing.

My cousin sent me "Under the Oriole's Nest" which includes some references to my maternal grandfather in the author's autobiography of growing up during the depression in Wisconin.

My dear husband wisely opted for some Borders and Amazon gift certificates. I haven't blown through them yet, but did pick up a copy of "The Daily Coyote" which looks really interesting - originally a blog about a woman who leaves her New York/San Francisco life for one in the wilds of Wyoming and raises an orphaned coyote pup. Excited to read something outside my current genres.

Monica (monbon211) | 6 comments My boyfriend took a hint and got me Half Broke Horses A True-Life Novel by Jeannette Walls. I enjoyed her first memoir The Glass Castle, so I'm quite excited to get started her new one. Yay!

Bloomin’Chick (Jo) aka The Eclectic Spoonie (bloominchick) Nancy, those sound wonderful, especially the quilting book!

Karla, White Oleander is one of my faves of All Time! Such a vivid book! (I was terribly disappointed w/the movie version that came out in the early 2000s). I hope you enjoy it!
