Why are some Books considered Evil?

i think some books are bad an inappropriate, but not evil. evil is kind of a strong word. :P
Yeah, the inappropiate ones can be much, but those are for people who like that sort of thing. Nothing is truly "Evil"
exactly, and if a book is labeled as inappropriate for your age/maturity level, then dont read it right then!
It especially drives me crazy when people bash on books like the Golden Compass. It's just a book! It's fiction! If you don't like the themes or content, ignore them and leave them alone!-puts tape over mouth to stop ranting-
I know! i enjoyed the book (and the others), and big Whoop! im a Christian who read a book with Athiest themes! the world shall die because of it!

i agree partly, but still it makes me nervous that books like that are out there for young people, both as a future teacher and hopefully someday as a future parent. like there are a lot of books in the YA section that i dont really like because i think they're inappropriate and not really teaching good values, but i guess im old fashioned like that. and that's cool for you, rae, i couldnt read those books. im reading this book right now for my Christianity and Literature class (its like a textbook) and it talks about that series. idk i couldnt ever read it, and i dont actually know anybody who has. i never even heard of the series before a couple years ago.

i think i read them in 6th grade, and im in 8th now
I've gotta tell you, I'm Hindu, okay. I've read MILLIONS (okay, just a lot) of books with Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Atheist and tons of other religious themes. So far, I'm still Hindu, still polytheistic (even though I should go to temple more often XD, Anyways....) Will I convert to something else someday? Maybe. Will it happen because of a book? Probably not.
i know!i've been a christian since birth, i have accepted the lord into my heart, and unless something drastic happens, i intend to stay a christian
It's really your choice on who you worship or follow. NO BOOK IS GOING TO CONTROL YOU LIKE THAT! But that's what all of the people who ban books and dub them "Evil" ultimately think.
yeps!and i feel good about myself because i dont have to have these long debates with others about why christianity is the *best* religion, i can just accept their choice. now, if they are non religious, i dont have a problem with telling them about the lord.
that is awesome to hear you guys say that! i think honestly, its not so much that books "change your mind" as they just put bad images into your mind. like my aunt told my mom that my little cousin (who is 14) asked her if it was okay to do something she had been raised not to do, just because she read it in a book. i mean, there were some things that i wasnt allowed to read, just because they werent age appropriate. and now that im older and set in my faith, nothings going to change that. for example, i read The Da Vinci Code a couple years ago and I actually liked it. i liked the art and history references, but i just kind of "blah blah blahed" over the religious stuff, cause well i know that dan brown is wrong, hahha :P but i was older when i read it. i wouldnt want my young middle school-ish cousins reading it, cause they're not there intellectually yet. does that make sense? it's just that i dont think every book is appropriate for every age. and there are some things that i wont ever read. like harlequin books! im pretty sure i'll never read those, hahaha
I feel confident about my religion too. I think that all religions are right. They all have their faults and rights.
it does, i stick to the teen/YA and Kids books. i may brach out every so often and read an adultish book, but thats only like, Wicked The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West or maybe a Jane Autsen (which i have never read any of her books). i did read Ransom Your Heart by Meg Cabot, but that was only because it was mentioned in the last Princess Diaries book and it sounded intriguing, lolz.

kewlz. we've been UM for my entire life, tho my dad was involved in the baptist church for a while. but he didn't become a christian till he was in college

how can people believe those books are bad i love books and i have read most of those and they were great!
