I'm with you Suzanne! I read the first one and loved it but I've been reluctant to read the second one because I heard it has a pretty big cliffhanger. So, I'll probably just wait until the 3rd book is out and read them back to back.

Crystal (crys25) | 237 comments Not at all, American slang is some of the worst. Thanks for educating me. I will def have to try something of his!

Suzanne (Under the Covers Book blog) Jessa- I stupidly, despite the notice that said SPOILER and shoudln't be read unless you have read Changeless, read the blurb for the 3rd book, so now I know things I shouldn't, so am waiting for the 3rd one so I don't have to bare the suspense of not knowing what happens

Crystal- I myself preferred The Ruby in the Smoke, the first of the Sally Lockhart Mysteries, I tend to reread them a lot more frequently probably because they are easier to read, however His Dark Material never fails to move me whenever I read it. Hehe you shoudl try using it in everyday conversation so that it catches on there too : ) So what kind of slang is commonly used in America?

D'oh. That sucks. Just gotta hold out until September and we can read them!

Jess | 3721 comments I would say to wait before reading Blameless, there is indeed a big cliffhanger at the end of Changeless.

PS - I think the spoiler in the blurb was removed by someone. But I would still suggest staying away from reading it.

Crystal (crys25) | 237 comments Suzanne it actually depends on where you are in America. Each region has their own kind of slang. I live in the NorthEast. One of my son's favorites is "you got served" or "hot mess" It depends.

message 57: by Carolyn F. (new)

Carolyn F. I'm west coast California and I say "hot mess" when I get a look at myself in the AM. So, does this mean I'm cool?

message 58: by Crystal (new)

Crystal (crys25) | 237 comments @Carolyn F according to my son it does. Of course it changes so often, who knows? As my step-daughter would say-that's sooooo five minutes ago!

Suzanne (Under the Covers Book blog) Lol, what does hot mess mean?

I am quite rubbish with slang, someone told me today at work that what they were doing "rubs", I was like whoa, way too much information, but he meant rubbish! lol

Jess- Too late I already did, and when it said SPOILER do not read etc it made me want to read it more!!

message 60: by Carolyn F. (new)

Carolyn F. To me it means that I'm not only hot but a mess. My daughter says it means I look like a crackhead. Jealousy is an ugly thing.

message 61: by Crystal (new)

Crystal (crys25) | 237 comments Yeah hot mess is not just bad it's bad to the nth degree.

Suzanne (Under the Covers Book blog) I think it sounds like a compliment, I think if I tried to use it the person might think I am coming on to them lol

message 63: by Crystal (new)

Crystal (crys25) | 237 comments Well if someone is truly a hot mess then you def don't want them to think you're coming on to them-LOL

Suzanne (Under the Covers Book blog) hehe that is very true I think I shall avoid using it

Aww sorry you read it!

Suzanne (Under the Covers Book blog) I was warned so I can only blame myself : D

I think the next steampunk book I am going to read is Boneshaker, it looks very interesting.

Also Steampunk is such a cool word! Even before I really knew what it meant it brings to mind strange machines and gadgets it has become my new favourite word.

message 67: by Crystal (new)

Crystal (crys25) | 237 comments It does sound kind of cool, doesn't it? Let me know how you like Boneshaker

message 68: by Sandra, Need more time to Read!! (new)

Sandra | 4734 comments According to Gail's blog 2/6/2010 there will be 4 books in the Parasol Protectorate.

Book 3, Heartless in July 2011 and Book 4, Timeless in Winter 2012.

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1831 comments And doesn't the title "Heartless" sorta scare you?

Crystal (crys25) | 237 comments Book 3 is entitled Blameless and is in fact being released by Orbit September 1st.Blameless

I know Michelle! I hope (crossing fingers) that she and Lord Maccon mend their relationship but this makes me think maybe not. I can't wait until Blameless comes out.

Anna (aknas22) | 349 comments I'm so exited for Blameless. These books also got be interested in steampunk. I'm going back to the classics. I'm on Chapter 5 of Jules Vernes' Around the World in Eighty Days (Penguin Classics) by Jules Verne .

message 73: by Sandra, Need more time to Read!! (new)

Sandra | 4734 comments I'm sorry, I meant books 4 & 5. (Heartless & Timeless)

I don't know what I was thinking, I've already preordered Blameless. My head just wasn't working right.

message 74: by Crystal (new)

Crystal (crys25) | 237 comments Np. I can't wait to read them all! Maccon better be ready to grovel....

I agree!

message 76: by Crystal (new)

Crystal (crys25) | 237 comments Yes, I hope Alexia has dastardly things planned for him. Can you tell I know how to hold a grudge?!

message 77: by Jacy (new)

Jacy (jazabell) | 214 comments I just learned that Timeless is the last book in the Parasol Protectorate series, but she is going to write a spin off called the Parasol Protectorate Abroad and the first book is supposed to be out in Fall 2013. Any thoughts on how she's going to end the series?

message 78: by Sandra, Need more time to Read!! (new)

Sandra | 4734 comments I'm not gonna tell and spoil your fun and anticipation. I read it the other day and it got 4 stars from me.

The new spinoff is supposed to start off with Prudence, I'm assuming she's all grown up when it starts.

message 79: by Jacy (new)

Jacy (jazabell) | 214 comments You're so lucky to have read it already! I really love the series and it's what got me reading Steampunk. I don't think I would have even know of the sub genre if not for Soulless. I just hope that no one gets killed off in Timeless...I just couldn't handle a Soulless world without the Alexia/Conall banter.

message 80: by Gwen (new)

Gwen | 8 comments I'd say that generally speaking I love the series.
Compare to many other series, it was a complete change of scenery !
The first and the fifth are my favorite books, but the fourth is the one I am not fan! I think it's due to the fact that I totally desagree with author about the adoption, the woolsey hive,... I was a bit upset at the end of the fourth one that I was relieved of having finished the book.
