Shirley Hartman-Rozee | 5 comments I can’t remember when I read my first Dean Koontz book—some time in the late 1990s—but I certainly remember the title and it has always been my favourite, Watchers. I was mesmerized by his writing style, his likeable well developed characters and captured by Einstein and his quirky ways. My heart broke when he uttered those words “fiddle broken”. I was crying from then to the end. The next two books I picked up at Chapters and again was captured by the camaraderie and humour of the group of friends in Fear Nothing and Seize the Night: Christopher Snow, Sasha, Bobby, Roosevelt Frost, Mungojerry, and Doogie. I currently have 70 of his books and read them over and over about once a year. I have over a thousand crime and police-procedural ebooks on my iPad, but Dean Koontz is and always will be my favourite author. I’m going on 88 years of age and live in eastern Canada.

Yes, my memory is not that great so I may not have faithful recollections.

I would really love it if you list, for my benefit, your top 10 NON-ODD THOMAS books of Dean Koontz. It would help me a lot. I personally think that Koontz is far better than thriller writers and I put him (at the time of asking) on par with Stephen King.

Honourable Mention: The Bad Place, Devoted
I like his later books—after 1975–much more than any of his early work.

Shirley Hartman-Rozee | 5 comments One of the reasons why I like Dean Koontz more than any other author is that he never leaves you hanging. He ties up all loose ends and the ending is usually good or at least satisfying. Another reason is his beautiful prose, vivid imagery, amazing descriptive writing style. And he always throws in a few words that make me look for a dictionary. To top it all off, he can make me giggle out loud; his humour is off the wall, which I love.

Thank you for the posts. I read The Good Guy just before joining Goodreads. It was a 4 star book for me.

The reason why I did not pursue my interest in the author is because I personally require a small twist every 5 pages (it can be anything) in my books... and Koontz books were too long in my eyes, to fulfill that requirement.

But I really want to try his work because I now realise that his ideas are very rare. Have a nice Sunday and happy reading to you and everyone :)

Cal Hello from the Panhandle of Florida! I've read several of Koontz books and for the most part have really enjoyed them. I just finished "AFTER DEATH" and I really like it.

I use to be an avid daily reader but haven't read any books in the last few years. Now with my new Kindle Paperwhite, I'm re-motivated and getting back into reading everyday! Feel free to add me as a friend. I'm new to goodreads and would like to get a good quality friend list going!

Heather | 1 comments Hello from Ohio!

I've read Kootnz for 20 years, and he is one of my favorite authors. I have to say I liked Odd Thomas best. I am a sucker for eccentric, kind, or quirky characters. I am also a sucker for adventure, mystery, a sense of awe, with some spooky/scary thrown in, and good versus evil. There is something about Kootnz and his writing that just, soothes the soul in troubled times, ya know?

I just pasted your list in to my to read list. I. have probably read all of these before because my mom was a big Koontz fan and I remember reading some when I was quite young. She had them all so I read them all, up until about Odd Thomas, not one of my faves. Warriors is my favorite also, but I don't remember some of these by name. So I will try your list to choose rereads

Benjamin Weirich | 4 comments Hi Everyone. I’m Ben from Massachusetts. I think my first Koontz book was Seize The Night. I’ve started reading him regularly the past few years and I started at the very beginning. I’m currently reading Shattered and he’s turned into the writer we expect: less and less of sci-fi and more of the suspense/thriller.

Elena Hi, I am in TN. I used to read a lot of Koontz in the 90's but drifted away. Now I got the bug again.
