Welcome to Koontzland Brian. Time to put that collection to use :-) Of course, if you have a collection like Dean suggests, you will have duplicate copies: one in mint condition and one for reading.

That's cool, Dustin, and thanks for the welcome. One Door Away From Heaven is a great read. I loved Leilani in that book.

:-) Welcome to Koontzland Chris AKA Absinthe. This thread has been active during the past month so you might have been looking at an older page. I think we are currently at page 19 for this topic, with 50 posts per page. Hope you enjoy Odd Apocalypse. I thought it was great.

My main interests in reading are horror and fantasy, but if something catches my eye or interest I'll read it. My last three books were :
Salem's Lot- King (re-read)
Green Heart- Hoffman
The Haunted Earth- Koontz
Looking forward to reading what others read and recommend.

Welcome to Koontzland Dee! Is The Haunted Earth one of Dean's early out of print books? I've never heard of it. Be sure to vote on the current poll for our February Group Read :-) See you around.

Welcome to Koontzland Matt! You & I must have different tastes in Koontz because while I like Intensity, I absolutely love Life Expectancy with it ranking at #1 on my list :-)

I am a new fan since I saw his interview on "The World Over Live" program. I am not a suspense reader, not a horror reader, not a blood and gore reader so I need help and advice. I started with Odd and fell in love with him and have been gobbling up the audiobooks as fast as I could obtain them from the library. I think Odd works so well in audio. I did Mr. Koontz the high honor (for me) of sitting down and reading "Odd Apocalypse" since I was way down in the queue for the audio version. But I am not sure there are many other of Mr. Koontz' books that I would have the guts to read! A friend told me she could not sleep after reading something called "Intensity!"
I am a recent convert to the faith so I enjoyed hearing his story in the interview and would love to have the chance to talk to him more!
Best regards,
Jen

Dustin,
The two books you recommend, I take it are "scary lite?"
Thanks,

Thanks Dustin, I live in San Antonio, TX, retired registered nurse-not ala "Misery", of course. Koontz fascinates me in that he actually fits neatly in to NO category. You really do not know what you will get when you open one of his books except good writing, wisdom, and humor. He will always have a place in my heart because with the book "Lightning" I was able to get my older son off children's trash books-He was 10 years old. There was no looking back for him and he remains an avid reader to this day.

My son started on Koontz when he was 10--now 33 and he is still a fan! You have many books to enjoy!

Jen wrote: "Tell me more about "Life Expectancy" and "By the Light of the Moon." I honestly know almost nothing about Dean Koontz' books except for Oddie.

There is quite a bit of comedy in both of these. Life Expectancy is my #1 Favorite Dean Koontz book and By The Light of the Moon is my #2 Favorite Dean Koontz book.
Life Expectancy has bakers, clowns and aerialists with a strong family theme. In By the Light of the Moon, expect the unexpected - (view spoiler) "The effect is without exception interesting, frequently astonishing, and sometimes positive".

The Moonlit Mind was originally only available as an ebook and was used to promote 77 SS. I believe it is available in the 77SS Paperback. It is also available as an audiobook. I have not read it yet :-)

Thanks Dustin. I will definitely put these on my list but I am a crazy reader. I want it to be all Oddie all the time right now and yet, I am at the end of the books (what do you think of "Odd Interlude?") and just sort of sitting here wondering what to do. Life Expectancy, he talked about in the World Over interview, the clown specifically. He said when he was writing about the character, he called him a clown without even thinking about it and then erased the word only to write it again. A chain-smoking clown he said...I guess you all feel very drawn to Dean Koontz in one way or another but that interview, it was like meeting the brother I never had.

I think you should make Life Expectancy a priority then :-) I haven't read Odd Interlude yet. Soon. I have bought a paperback copy and the audiobook - so it will be soon.

He's been lurking, but the two courses he was teaching at two different institutions last semester (on top of research) left him with little time for anything else. He's back now, though, and trying to catch up on missed posts. Thanks for asking. :-)

I mostly do audiobooks and I think most of the Koontz audiobooks are done extremely well with great narrators. Life Expectancy is anything but humdrum :-)
