Welcome Emma :-) False Memory and By the Light of the Moon are two of my favorites also. I have the title "By the Light of the Moon" tattooed on my right arm. I have "One Door Away From Heaven" tattooed on my left arm :-)

That's cool, Dustin, and thanks for the welcome. One Door Away From Heaven is a great read. I loved Leilani in that book.

Walter Danley (walterdanley) | 1 comments Hi Group, I'm Walter and I think a Kootz Group is a terrific idea. We'll never run out of things to talk about. Just moved to Texas from Laguna Beach, CA and my biggest regreat is not inviting Dean for lunch in Newport Beach. We were almost neighbors and I didn't do it! Rats. I've read most of his work and there seem to be 3 things you can count on with Koontz; A scary story, a (usually) Golden Retreiver and a happy ending. Who could ask for more?

Naching T. Kassa | 19 comments Hi! My name is Naching and i started reading Dean Koontz novels about 5 years ago. The first time i had ever heard Dean's name was when i watched the movie, "Demon Seed". Then, my Dad bought "Cold Fire" for me at a used book store many years later. i fell in love with Dean's work at once! My husband has bought me a majority of Dean's books (i have over 30 and have read them all!)and he gives them to me for Christmas, Birthdays, Anniversaries etc. i really enjoy Dean Koontz!

Chris Terry (absintheminded) It seems this thread hasn't gotten any recent attention. It just seems natural that I start here for this thread. I'm 27 and have read 37 Koontz books and am just now reading Odd Apocalypse. Real name is Chris, but usually in online situations people call me Absinthe. Good to be here!

Matthew Behling (MattyKB) | 25 comments Hello all! My names Matt and I'm from beautiful California. I've been reading Koontz on and off for 20 or so years (which makes me sound incredibly old, though I'm only 31...lol). My favorite Koontz novel is a tie between Intensity and The Servants of Twilight, while my least fav is Life Expectancy. I read everyday from almost every genre, but usually prefer anything in the horror/thriller variety.

message 869: by Jen LD (new)

Jen LD (jenld) | 48 comments Hi to all,
I am a new fan since I saw his interview on "The World Over Live" program. I am not a suspense reader, not a horror reader, not a blood and gore reader so I need help and advice. I started with Odd and fell in love with him and have been gobbling up the audiobooks as fast as I could obtain them from the library. I think Odd works so well in audio. I did Mr. Koontz the high honor (for me) of sitting down and reading "Odd Apocalypse" since I was way down in the queue for the audio version. But I am not sure there are many other of Mr. Koontz' books that I would have the guts to read! A friend told me she could not sleep after reading something called "Intensity!"
I am a recent convert to the faith so I enjoyed hearing his story in the interview and would love to have the chance to talk to him more!
Best regards,
Jen

Thanks Dustin, I live in San Antonio, TX, retired registered nurse-not ala "Misery", of course. Koontz fascinates me in that he actually fits neatly in to NO category. You really do not know what you will get when you open one of his books except good writing, wisdom, and humor. He will always have a place in my heart because with the book "Lightning" I was able to get my older son off children's trash books-He was 10 years old. There was no looking back for him and he remains an avid reader to this day.

There is quite a bit of comedy in both of these. Life Expectancy is my #1 Favorite Dean Koontz book and By The Light of the Moon is my #2 Favorite Dean Koontz book.

Life Expectancy has bakers, clowns and aerialists with a strong family theme. In By the Light of the Moon, expect the unexpected - (view spoiler) "The effect is without exception interesting, frequently astonishing, and sometimes positive".

The Moonlit Mind was originally only available as an ebook and was used to promote 77 SS. I believe it is available in the 77SS Paperback. It is also available as an audiobook. I have not read it yet :-)

Thanks Dustin. I will definitely put these on my list but I am a crazy reader. I want it to be all Oddie all the time right now and yet, I am at the end of the books (what do you think of "Odd Interlude?") and just sort of sitting here wondering what to do. Life Expectancy, he talked about in the World Over interview, the clown specifically. He said when he was writing about the character, he called him a clown without even thinking about it and then erased the word only to write it again. A chain-smoking clown he said...I guess you all feel very drawn to Dean Koontz in one way or another but that interview, it was like meeting the brother I never had.

He's been lurking, but the two courses he was teaching at two different institutions last semester (on top of research) left him with little time for anything else. He's back now, though, and trying to catch up on missed posts. Thanks for asking. :-)

message 885: by Jen LD (new)

Jen LD (jenld) | 48 comments I don't know this Jason but he sounds busy! I am hoping to get hold of "Life Expectancy" tomorrow, on cd. Please someone tell me it's really good. I read a reader review that said it was humdrum! I just can't believe that. I have the audio now of Odd Apocalypse but I had read the large print version a week ago and do not think I can go through the suspense of it again. I am re-listening to the first one and it's so full of character and lots of back story. I am beginning to feel the subsequent books only offer tiny little morsels in those areas.

I mostly do audiobooks and I think most of the Koontz audiobooks are done extremely well with great narrators. Life Expectancy is anything but humdrum :-)

message 887: by Jen LD (new)

Jen LD (jenld) | 48 comments Good to hear! Reader reviews are so hard to gauge. I will be starting it tomorrow. It will take courage! I am just the biggest wimp when it comes to suspense. It took a very compelling character, Odd Thomas, to get me to even try a Koontz book. Of course seeing him on the "World Over Live" didn't hurt either.
