Colleen (colleenct1) | 87 comments If I am reading a book the last couple of day of December and I finish it on January 1, 2010, does this book count as my first book in 2010 or do you have to read the whole book in 2010?

message 2: by Pam (new)

Pam (pammylee76) What I have done in the past is use a cut off of 50%. If there is less than 50% left then don't count it. If there is more than 50% then yes, count it.

But overall, it is your own decision.

message 3: by Sherry (new)

Sherry (wstridgerunner) If you finish it after the stroke of midnight Colleen; I would count it as 2010.

Sarah (Mood Reader) (bookworm1887) Yeah, I would count it as 2010 as well because you are finishing it in 2010.

Afsana (afsanaz) I agree with the majority of you finnish it in on the 1st no matter when you started it you can count it as 2010

But afree with pam that its down to the individual

message 6: by LynnB (new)

LynnB I always count my books by the day I finish them -- that's the date-read I use for goodreads and any other lists I have. When I start a book, I don't know if I'll finish it, so to me that's not a date-read.

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) I agree. I would count it if it as "read" the day that it is finished.

Ann aka Iftcan (iftcan) | 394 comments The only time the date finished doesn't count as the read date is if you are in a monthly challenge. Those you are usually required to start on the 1st day of the month, and it can't be something that you started before that first day. But I think that for this challenge--its when you finish reading the book

message 9: by Kelly (new)

Kelly I personally agree with Pam... if I read the majority of the book at the end of December and finish it up in January, I'll count it as 2009. But if I start it at the end of December and read the majority of it in January, I'll count it as 2010.

Athira (Reading on a Rainy Day) (readingonarainyday) I also count a book towards the month/year I finished reading it. I personally would love to track it based on when I read the major chunk of the book, but that led to more work for me, so I just went for the easier option.

message 11: by Donnajo (new)

Donnajo I go by the month/date/year finished also.

Collette (vwbernie) | 57 comments I was just wondering about this since I'm going to be starting a new book today which I know I won't have time to finish. :)

message 13: by LynnB (new)

LynnB One of my other groups has the rule that you can't be more than half way through a book at the start of the month to have it count for that month. (There are so many ways of looking at this!)

Colleen (colleenct1) | 87 comments I am reading "The Stand" and as of today I am on page579. I have 562 page left, I think that counts as the first book of 2010 when I finish it. LOL

Thank you for all your help.

I wish you all Good Reading, Good Frineds, Good Health and Good Luck in 2010!

Sounds good to me! Personally, I count by the date I end the book - I've just always done that and just stick with it.

Afsana (afsanaz) i agree even if only read few pages in 2010 rest in 2009 still count it as being read in jan 2010

its like when you uy something online you count it as being yours when the book has arrived-as thats ehrn you get it and something may change between when bought and when recieved

message 17: by Gina (new)

Gina (ginrobi) | 84 comments I had the same dilemma. I didn't finish Grave Surprise until after lunch on New Year's Day, so I counted it as the first book finished in 2010.
