Betsy (ebburtis) | 1291 comments Started The Ghost Bride The Ghost Bride by Yangsze Choo . Had a hard time deciding what to pick up and wanted something a little different. This is fitting the bill: China in 1893 with a paranormal element thrown in. Good so far.

Linda | 1693 comments Crazy Rich Asians (Crazy Rich Asians, #1) by Kevin Kwan Crazy Rich Asians (I know friends have said how great this book is - what took me so long?) and Hitler's Last Soldier in America by Georg Gaertner Hitler's Last Soldier in America - this book was brought to my attention by my dyslexic husband who wanted to listen to. Alas, it is not available on audio, BUT my library, surprisingly, has a copy, so I'm using their new Maker Space to record the book so that I can give it to him for Christmas.

Betsy (ebburtis) | 1291 comments I started Giovanni's Room Giovanni's Room by James Baldwin . It's a short one and I'm hoping to race through it to get to Becoming by Michelle Obama Becoming which I got for Christmas. It's been so long since I've read an actual hardcover book, I hope I can manage to hold it up without injuring myself.

Linda | 1693 comments A Ladder to the Sky by John Boyne A Ladder to the Sky It's a wow! Read almost 100 pages in the first sitting.

And Betsy, Becoming is such an intriguing read your hands won't even notice.

And my husband loved his present.

message 3081: by Nancy (new)

Nancy Motto | 450 comments recently started The Huntress by Kate Quinn on audiobook. The narrator is amazing. She does Russian, American, English, German accents as well as Boston and Brooklyn and they're all really well done. Good story too. FYI, I just joined Walmart's audiobook program for $9.95/month and got my first book free, which otherwise would have been $42.99 (Yikes)

Linda | 1693 comments Now starting Ladies Who Punch by Ramin Setoodeh Ladies Who Punch.

Started reading Dreyer’s English An Utterly Correct Guide to Clarity and Style by Benjamin Dreyer Dreyer’s English: An Utterly Correct Guide to Clarity and Style.

How sad is it that I like reading good grammar and punctuation books. This one has wit, too.

Karen | 87 comments I just started The Den by Abi Maxwell love it!!!

message 3087: by Antonia (new)

Antonia (toniclark) | 2 comments I both started and finished (yesterday) My Sister, the Serial Killer, by Oyinkan Braithwaite — which I loved. Short, smart, and quirky. Snappy banter and dark humor. I was caught up in it from page one. (I almost bought the hardcover, but balked at the $23 for such a small book. So I borrowed the digital version from our library consortium.) At a more leisurely pace, I’m reading The Secret Lives of Color by Kassia St Clair — “The unforgettable, unknown history of colors and the vivid stories behind them in a beautiful multi-colored volume.” The book’s page at Amazon shows a few two-page spreads.

I knew I wasn't alone, Toni. If there wasn't a market, I wouldn't have the book in my hands.

Betsy (ebburtis) | 1291 comments I started Bowlaway Bowlaway by Elizabeth McCracken on audio and it was a bit strange so I put it aside. But I now see it is on the list for the Tournament of Books Summer Camp, so I'll have to pick it up again. But in the meantime, I'm listening to The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah The Great Alone. Liking it so far.
