The Magic Strings of Frankie Presto this for a book discussion, I read it 3 years ago when it first came out. Also listening to
Us Against You
What a coincidence - I got Death of Mrs. Westaway and Us Against You both from the library yesterday on audio. They are on deck for the next two listens. I started White Trash: The 400-Year Untold History of Class in America
but it's kind of boring so far. Linda, you read it and liked it, so should I stick with it?
Listening to The Perfect Couple
. It's been getting great reviews. So far strikes me a light summer chick-lit read with a murder thrown in. That's not to say I won't like it - even if I'm not at the beach!
Hello Bookmarks friendsI honestly just realized that I haven't posted anything in months. I record my books on my shelves but have totally forgotten to post to this group. I've read 63 books so far this year so I'll try to post for some of the ones I really liked. The first one that comes to mind and really rang true for me is Three Things about Elsie. It's about two older (80's) women who live in an assisted living facility and a new resident moves in. They think they know him from the past but he's going by a different name so they decide to investigate. That's the story on the surface but it's really about ageing, being remembered, who we are as we age, etc. The one line that I loved was when one of the women says "my mind got up and left without me". I'm sure that's what happened to me regarding posting on this site!! Will post more books later.
Betsy wrote: "Started Beneath a Scarlet Sky
on Kindle and I'll be starting IQ
on audio for my book group."I just started Beneath a Scarlet sky on audio. Not crazy about the narrator ; he just sounds too American. Am enjoying the story though
Started Only Child
on audio. This one is pretty devastating - the aftermath of a mass shooting at an elementary school told from the point of view of a 6 year old survivor of the shooting whose brother was killed.
Beartown my second time, this time for a book discussion and
Fly Girls: How Five Daring Women Defied All Odds and Made Aviation History
I'm listening to I Have the Right To: A High School Survivor's Story of Sexual Assault, Justice, and Hope
. I'm in New Hampshire, the home of the prestigious St Paul's, where this happened. It roiled NH and it's interesting and maddening to listen to her story at the same time that the Kavanaugh nomination circus is going on.
4 short audio books
The Death of Truth: Notes on Falsehood in the Age of Trump
How Not to Get Shot: And Other Advice From White People
Has Anyone Seen the President? and
The Bookshop
Wow! Have I been behind on this. At the moment I'm working on listening to
Leadership: In Turbulent Times and reading
Getting Mother's Body
Just starting
I have some high hopes for this book. The language seems to be a bit overblown from what I've read so far but I'm going to stick with it.
I've started reading Leadership: In Turbulent Times since I won it as a GR giveaway and it has some great initial reviews. I'm also reading Kingsolver's new book, Unsheltered.
Have begun The Death of Caesar: The Story of History's Most Famous Assassination for one of my choices for the designated prompts in the Nonfiction November group. The challenge consists of four books during this month that fall into the following prompts: Past Time/Pastime, Self/Shelf, Wander/Wonder, and Micro/Macro. If interested in participating please join many others in participating in the community group Nonfiction November 2018 started by Olive from the youtube channel a book olive and Gemma.
I've started How It Happened
on audio and
The Care and Feeding of Ravenously Hungry Girls which I got as an ARC.
1,000 Books to Read Before You Die: A Life-Changing List and

Betsy wrote: "Linda wrote: "

At least the write-ups on each book are relatively short and concise and I'm reading it while the TV is on (60 Minutes, Madame Secretary). It's already adding to my undoable TBR. So many book that I've never heard of that sound interesting.
Linda wrote: "Betsy wrote: "Linda wrote: "

Enemy of the People: Trump's War on the Press, the New McCarthyism, and the Threat to American Democracy and
Mr. Trump's Wild Ride: The Thrills, Chills, Screams, and Occasional Blackouts of an Extraordinary Presidency What can I tell 'ya? I'm a glutton for punishment.
