Hi Amy, Many thanks for your kind words. I always think Great Danes are the closest I ever get to working with horses! Intimidating but invariably gentle giants. Hope you check out some of my other books. Best wishes Nick

Leland | 17 comments Hey! I'm Leland, and I have a border collied named Angelo, and a black lab named Maggie. We live out in the middle of nowhere in an off grid house, and we have a lot of fun. Maggie's Book of Wisdom has been published, and Angelo has a book of Haiku coming out this week... Maggie's book is a very tiny, simple book about what she's learned in the one year she's been alive. Nice to meet all of you! You can watch my author page for updates

Katherine Kane (wikate) | 6 comments Hello, all. I'm Katherine, the person pet of a Standard Poodle named Luna, from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and owner of City Pet Books.

We are looking for pre-publication readers for our next book, Making The Dog Decision, to provide suggestions and feedback. (Our version of a Product Focus Group.) If any of you know people who are trying to decide about getting their very first dog, and what type of dog to get, have them contact us through the Contact Us page on our website http://www.citypetbooks.com Make sure they mention Goodreads Dogs. We will contact them to discuss the details. We do want readers who have not personally owned a dog before, but having dogs while they were growing up is just fine and would not take them out of consideration.

Our book, Training The City Dog, is available on Amazon as a "real book" and for your Kindle, on Barnes&Noble for your Nook, and in the iBookstore for your iPad. Making The Dog Decision is scheduled for publication later this year.

Neil Plakcy (neilplakcy) | 7 comments My name is Neil Plakcy, and like Jude, I'm a golden retriever lover. Mine is named Sam, and he's a sweetheart. I love the David Rosenfelt books, too.

As a matter of fact, I love my golden so much that I've written two mystery novels in which a smart, funny golden helps his dad solve the crimes.

The first is called IN DOG WE TRUST, and in it, Steve's next door neighbor is killed while walking her golden, Rochester. He discovers the body, and then, with Rochester's help, tracks down the killer.

In the second book, THE KINGDOM OF DOG, Steve's mentor is killed at the college where they both work, and Rochester goes nose to the ground to help sniff out the dastardly villain.

These are cozy mysteries with a touch of humor and I hope that dog lovers will check them out.

Tony Lewis (tonylewis) Hi,

Sorry, a bit late with my Intro. I'm Tony (you'd never have guessed, hey?) and I love all things dog - well, except the wee 'presents' they sometimes leave us when alone in the house for too long.

Our family dogs are three: we've got Brandy an old lady Border-Lakeland terrier; a 100% Border terrier called Olive, and a Patterdale terrier called Denzel. As you can imagine, with three terriers in the same room, there's never a dull moment.

PS I am also the author of the new canine adventure novel: "If Only I Could Talk", which a tale ALL about dogs set half in France and half in the UK.

Glad to be here!
Tony

Jennifer | 3 comments My name is Jennifer. I live in south Mississippi. I am single and want to stay that way. I have 5 "fur babies", 2 dogs (Ali and Bitsy) and 3 cats (Tuesday, Jazz and Zeke). All are heinz 57 because my favorite breed is rescued! You can see pictures of them in my facebook photos. I volunteer with the local animal shelter during my free time. I work for a large hospital as an informatics nurse. I love discussing animals - jokes, cute pictures, safety issues, recommendations, etc. Thank you for allowing me to join!

Jennifer | 3 comments My name is Jennifer and I live in MS. I have two dogs and two cats that I love like children!

message 87: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 3 comments Oh, all of my Furbabies were shelter babies - I volunteer at my local shelter. I have some thoughts that I'd like to get off of my mind and hope it's ok with all of you.

First, animal movies spark breeders to work on fulfilling a current demand for a specific breed of pet - check the shelters in OC California and you will find several dogs there that people got because of "Beverly hills chihuahua" and now they are dying. Why do people do this????

Second, I've just heard that breeders get a tax break. Seriously???? With all the dogs and cats suffering???

I'll get off the soapbox now. Maybe I do this to myself by crossposting on Facebook trying to save cats and dogs across America. I see too much. But I just can't let it go and honestly hope I never become sensitized to this suffering.

message 88: by Gayle (new)

Gayle | 51 comments Thank you for all you do, Jennifer. You are absolutely correct. If my New Year's wishes came true then every dog and cat would be in a loving forever home and I would never again see the suffering across Facebook.

message 92: by Vikki (new)

Vikki (silverstarz) Hi everyone. I'm Vikki from Northern Ireland.
At the moment I just have 1 dog - Niko, an Alaskan Malamute. Our other dog died about a week before Christmas :o(

message 93: by Carrie (new)

Carrie P (ilavalavamylibrary) That makes the holidays tough, sorry to hear about your dog Vikki :'( Hope you & Niko are recovering okay. At my workplace, we recently screened a dog that we thought might be a wolf hybrid but on closer inspection, now think it's a Husky Malamute mix (we have lots of huskies that board with us but this particular dog was like double their size). BTW, I'm visiting the British Isles for the first time this summer & Ireland will be one of my stops: any tips on must-see sites there?

Julia (juliace) | 0 comments Hi All-
My name is Julia and I live in Orlando Fl.
I LOVE dogs. We used to have them all the time when I lived in NJ, but I have not had one since moving down to Fl 20 years ago. My BF does want one, but is afraid of them. I'm trying to talk him into getting one, but we also have to consider our lifestyle.
Hope to chat with you all soon.

Maybe your BF would be more comfortable with small breeds since he's scared of dogs, like a cockapoo or cavalier or havanese (or are they not "manly" enough for him)? Probably something not too hairy either since it's hot down in Florida :)

message 97: by Julia (new)

Julia (juliace) | 0 comments We have actually talked about a Boston Terrier or a Chihauha (sp). I would prefer a mutt, but since it's his first dog we'll go w/a purebred, as long as we can get a rescue.

message 98: by Carrie (new)

Carrie P (ilavalavamylibrary) For some strange reason, all our Boston Terrier clients are a little crazy (maybe something to do with their bug eyes?) & it depends on the chihuahua (some are really sweet then there's most that think they're Pitt Bulls ~ one in particular named Pepe who loves humans but gets very protective & tries to take on the other bigger pups if they come too close to us :) That said, both breeds themselves are awesome because everything pretty much boils down to the owner anyways. Mutts are the best & even more awesome if they are rescues!

Julia (juliace) | 0 comments Carrie wrote: "Mutts are the best & even more awesome if they are rescues!"

The only thing I know for sure is that if we do wind up getting a dog, we WILL NOT be purchasing from a shop. We will defintly go to a shelter or rescue.

message 100: by Gayle (new)

Gayle | 51 comments There are so many great dogs looking for their forever families in rescue and shelters and many rescues are breed-specific. Kudos, Julia for deciding to adopt and save your next best friend.
