That sounds horrible! Luckily I live behind a haunted house/pumpkin patch/apple orchard, so I only have to walk about a 1/2 mile to get there. But today the woods that separate us are filled with hunters, heard lots of gunshots. And the coyotes have been calling a lot at night lately. It is kinda eerie sometimes . . .

Eek! I all of a sudden remember why I like the city. So much safer here with the alcoholics, druggies, and serial murderers.
On that note. I am going to have to make it up to my kids with a super Thanksgiving.
I'm a lil bummed. My oldest called today and said "Daddy and MaMa, I mean, miss Charity are cleaning the toy room". My ex is making the kids call his gf mama... such a ********...
I didn't say anything of course because I never want her to feel she can't share things with me. She confided her dad makes them call Charity "mama". She asked me to talk to him about it. Which I did. It obviously wasn't clear enough. My babies are so confused I am at a total loss. How can I protect my kids when the military is hell bent on supporting a liar, cheater and manipulator? I don't get it. I pray God is hearing their prayers and that whatever happens it is in thebest interest of the kids :(

Steven (tbones) | 592 comments Absolutely, I think my wife is sticking with Restaraunt City now, and yes the credit card really gets you all the cool stuff in those games huh. Actually, I think I want to set a chunk of our property aside for growing some pumpkins and squash for next year...and I mean in the real world type garden. We got some fresh stuff this year from a place down the road and the pumpkins and squash are very good. My wife is gonna make pumpkin pies from scratch this year. Could be the way to go with the price of groceries going up lately.

But I've rehabilitated myself, yay!

Steven (tbones) | 592 comments I agree, Cici's next profile pick is gonna be of her giving us the finger :o)
as for over nighted pie hmmm there's an idea...I'm sure if you lived out this way my wife would have to invite you to one of her cookie/recipe parties. She's having one this weekend and I can't wait to be the guinea pig :O)~
As for really great games without the credit card thing...get an XBox 360 or Wii...Assassins Creed is a blast since you like those Brent Weeks books.

Steven (tbones) | 592 comments just wondering Jenna, did you ever get that book I sent your way? If not and I find another copy of When The Wind Blows, I will send it your way again. I am happy that Patterson is now on Goodreads though :O)

Just eat lots of desserts for me and savor it because some people can't!!and soon I will be joining u and pigging out on all the goodies!!

message 262: by Steven (new)

Steven (tbones) | 592 comments I wish you the best of health for you and your baby and hope someone kicks it up a notch and brings the goodies to you in the hospital if they allow it. I think you should go trick or treating as soon as you get out of the hospital too...even though Halloween is over. I think if you make a sad enough face at each door someone might throw ya some Skittles :o)

Have had two grueling days of parent-teacher conferencs - got to see some parents I really wanted to talk to, but the real sh*theads parents stayed away. Go figure. Maybe that's why they are sh*theads. Apples don't fall too far from the tree.

Going to see the play Rock of Ages tomorrow night with a good friend - dinner and a show about 80's music. Gotta love it - I am from the 80's and I hope there is some Bon Jovi in it . . . and maybe a little Def Leppard.

Only two weeks until Thanksgiving. Where did the year go? Seems like two weeks ago I was plopping my butt into a lawn chair and settling in for a good 2-hour read and anticipating Mockingjay like you wouldn't believe. Time flies.

message 269: by Cici (new)

message 270: by Steven (new)

Steven (tbones) | 592 comments Hey Cici, Congratulations on your new addition to the family. Nothing could make a holiday season any happier...and now it's time for you to get some goodies. Ya know what I heard on the radio, there's a new place close to me called Fudge Galore and they make pumpkin pie fudge and egg nogg fudge with plenty of rum in it mmmm ... don't that sound good.

Speaking of trees . . . Someone has suggested I get a spinning pre-lit tree and when I said "no way! Then I have to decorate the back, too!" he told me I was a Scrooge! Do you think I am a Scrooge - or just lazy? Bah humgub! hahahahahahaha!

message 273: by [deleted user] (new)

Cici - I saw pictures of the new man in your life on Facebook - what a sweet-pea! You are so lucky! Give him lots of kisses from his online Auntie Jenn!

message 274: by Steven (new)

Steven (tbones) | 592 comments I don't know I think as long as you have a tree you can't really be considered a Scrooge :o)
We did a total Sponge Bob Christmas tree one year. We even had a big stuffed Patrick for the star...my wife is really into a themed tree each year...so far nobody is with me on the Halloween tree :O( It would be so awesome, it would look like the one the Munsters had :O)

Gotta admit - that would be AWESOME! And he could heat the house in the winter!

It is very cold in southeastern Michigan today. Windy and cold, but sunny. They cancelled school today. My feeling about this is "I may not be able to get to school by 7, but I can be at the mall by 9". Going to finish my Christmas shopping and catch a movie.

Everyone grab a blankie and cuddle with the one you love . . .

Cici Hi guys!
Steven, where is this fudge galore? I still haven't got my pumpkin cheesecake! When I first had him surprisenly I had no appetite, but I'm starting t get it back, boooooo!! :( I have been eating the best cookiies ever, meijers makes them in the bakery center they're called rockie road cookies and they taste like brownie batter!! So yummy!
So steven what's ur tree theme this year?
Jenn, you are definetly not a scrooge!! Lol! I did however put my tree in front of the big picture window this year I thought it'd be so pretty there until it was up and I was like oh sh*t I gotta decorate the back too! I let the kids do most of it, so the majority of the ordaments hang from the very bottom of the tree! Oh well its still cute!!
Ill tell brady you said hi and give him lots of kisses! I cannot seem to stop giving him kisses, he has to be the most kissed baby! He even puckers his lips probably because he imatates what I look like to him. Lol!

message 279: by Steven (new)

Steven (tbones) | 592 comments Hey if I could send you some fudge galore I would. My wife is actually trying to fight some out of a pan right now...she forgot to put the parchment paper in the pan so it's becoming quite a chore.
But we do have lots of cookies so far and she made the yummiest chocolate peanut butter ball thingys. The are like little ButterFinger Crisps.
This years tree theme is not really there. We almost didn't have the money for a tree so we hadn't planned it out. It's just got a big bunch of everything all over it. I want to do a fantasy/scifi tree next year and my wife wants to do a family tree-tree. Hers would have pictures of people in the family in ornaments all over it...I told her if we do that I get to be the star :O)
Oh and my wife made that rockie road cookies stuff too..so good :O)~
Well, congrats on the new addition to your family and I wish you the best Christmas and New Years ever :O)

message 280: by [deleted user] (new)

Glad to hear you are all well and I hope you had a wonderful Christmas with the people you love and those that love you. I am nearly finished with Tea Time for the Traditionally Built, another solid entry in the Number One Detectives Agency series, and I have just gotten a ton of books from Paperbackswap.com. Anyone read Sarah's Key or Major Pettigrew's Last Stand?

Awww I love the idea for the the family treeee!!! You both are such creative people!! I tried to make peanut butter balls this year, what a mess, I made some with rice crispies too to give hm a crnch. My smore cookies didn't turn out too awesome. I'm not the greatest at desserts. But I enjoyed everyone elses desserts. :)

message 282: by [deleted user] (new)

OMG - I think I have eaten my weight in cookies and other things containing chocolate. I think that I may need to go cold turkey on chocolate - is there such a thing as chocolate withdrawl? This morning I saw a commercial for the Special K two week cereal diet where you can lose up to 6 pounds and I wondered if it would work with Cinnamon Toast Crunch!

I know what you mean, sister!! My prego weight is just stickin to me prob. Because of eating breakfast or lunch I'm substituting it for rocky road cookies and peanut butter balls and whatever other sweets I can find!! Someone needs to come over and remove all the garbage food frm me!!!!

message 284: by Steven (new)

Steven (tbones) | 592 comments Ya know what the best way to get rid of the garbage food is...give it to people that visit to take home with them. We still have quite a bit too. I think my wife goes over the top on this stuff most years. We really need to push more of it out the door with people. So sorry your peanut butter balls didn't turn out. If I could get my wife on here she might be able to help you out with your recipe. Maybe there's something that needed to be added to make them hold together. We live at a high altitude so my wife had to change all her baking recipes to fit that.
I do have to say it sounds like you all have a pretty good holiday time though :O) that's awesome. I did feel bad for all those people stuck in the bad weather back east. I think people should save all that money used to travel during Christmas and visit people in the better weather anyway...there's more to do then right :O)
Talk at ya later.

message 285: by [deleted user] (new)

Well, it is back to the grind - and the treadmill. I will admit I have been hanging clothes on it the last two weeks. But today I dusted it off and gave it a whirl - man I am beat! But since I ate my weight in junk this holiday season, I must now walk, walk, walk.

I agree with you Steven about travelling when it is cheaper and there is more to do, but people are very attached to having family around for the holidays. So they get fleeced by the airlines and car rental agencies.

I once got stuck in an airport for 3 days in June, I couldn't imagine it at Christmastime.

message 286: by Steven (new)

Steven (tbones) | 592 comments Yeah I know the holidays have that effect on people and it is nice to be around family but sometimes the bad weather just causes too many dangers that I don't feel are worth it. Heck, I always wonder just how out of debit people in our country would be if they didn't spend so darn much during the holidays.
Ya know what I do think is interesting? My wife and I were watching one of those Hoarding shows on TLC and in between during the commercials they kept showing adds for those storage bags and even one for the Pack Rat...talk about trying to mess with peoples heads right.

Back to work last week. After one day I was already sleep deprived and looking for excuses to not check papers (like right now I am on Goodreads instead of checking lab write-ups!). It was a long week as one of our students was killed in a car wreck. She was pretty popular and a very nice girl. Her parents had to take her off of life support - I can't imagine that. That is cruel. Sorry to put a downer on this forum, but thanks for listening.

Cici We've lost my Great Grandma and and Gpa last year and she was very sad about that. She cried when she found out Emily died and then she came home yesterday and said "Emily didnt die, she was jsut sick and is all better now.". I was like what? Ironically, Her classmate Emily was absent that day so she didnt know the Emily that passed away, who was in a different first grade class, so she is confused and both my kids only think you die when you get old. I've tried to explain but they're not grasping it and I won't push it.
How are your students dealing with the death? How are you?

I think you are doing the right thing not pushing it, eventually they will get it, unfortunately.

I am coping well. The funeral is Friday and a lot of the students are going, but she died over a week ago and I have found that funerals that long after someone died are worse than in the first few days because the grief really kicks in. You think that you are okay and doing well, and then the reality really sets in and you are a mess. It will be a sad day - am I callous because I am glad there is a weekend in between the funeral and school resuming? I don't want to see their sad faces and hear the stories of the memorial. We lose one every other year or so and it is always awful.

Someone who works at channel 4 lives in Romeo and whenever we have something like this happen it always makes the news. Makes me sick that the vultures can't leave those kids alone.

Cici Steven!! Where have you been?!
I just saw your wifes cake for her dads bday-unbelievable! It does NOT look like cake! I even left her a comment and shes prob. like who the hell is that?! lol. It was so detailed (hello, nipples! lol!) and the outfit actually looked like silk!! I may have to fire mom from making my wedding cake and hiring your wife!!! She is very talented! Im reading these Nora Roberts bride books and the story about the baker reminds me of your wife, she can also make a cake look like anything, tell your wife to check out the book, its called Savor the Moment. And let her know I was bragging about her work!

Steven (tbones) | 592 comments Hey Peeps :o)
So ya like the cake :O) Yeah it was pretty realistic looking. My father in-law said the guys at work were actually peeling the fondant down to see what was under the clothing and they were surprised that it was detailed underneath as well. I will snag a few pictures of my wife's cakes and put them on my Facebook as well so you can see pictures also Jennifer, and yes I'd love to help you out with moderating in this group. I do moderate a bit in the Book Freaks group but I think I could pull off helping you all out in here when you need me to as well. Just let me know what you want me to help out with.
I did disappear a bit though because of the holidays and I am in the middle of 4 different books at the moment. I really need to widdle down the number of books I've been jumping into. I definitely would recommend the titles - Miles Away...Worlds Apart by Alan Sakowitz (Fantastic and inspiring),Staccato by Deborah Ledford (entertaining), Amazonia by James Rollins (exciting), and True Grit by Charles Poiter (entertaining western)
Anyway, I will get that Facebook thing done and probably have my wife add you (Jennifer) to her friends list so you can check out the cakes there also.

Omg, Steven! The cake was detailed under there, too?!?!!? That is SOOOOOOO FUNNY! She really made their day, huh? :) That's great you'll be a moderater too. Our little book family :). I have a few James Rollins I still have to read too.
Jennifer, I'm still not sure what she passed away from. I feel awkward asking.

All the cakes she makes have been just getting better and better. I keep telling her to send Buddy from the Cake Boss a challenge email :O) She also makes some fantastic cupcakes and she has been trying different pastry recipes as well.
I do look forward to moderating. Just let me know what types of things you would like me to take care of from my end. Maybe to add that testosterone and since you seem to have a few to read, Rollins should be a monthly read for the group this year? It would be really cool to have him join a discussion after one of his titles.
