Steven, could you please send me a friend request so I can see these cakes? You have piqued my interest . . .

Thanks for the input about farmville, I just got invited but didn't know what it was, so I didn't join and now I will not join for sure. I don't want to get sucked into that stuff, I have other things I want to do.

message 202: by Steven (new)

Steven (tbones) | 592 comments I definitely understand the not having much time for the creative stuff. I went to art school out of high school and I rarely get time to draw or do anything really creative myself. I do have a few stories I am working on on my laptop along with some artwork that I've messed with but nothing really big anymore. I work graveyard and don't really have the energy for much after I get home...but I have time to taste test the cake :o)

Cici Yes, at least I get to read though.
Jenn, farmville was the worst, I would actually plan my day around when my crops were ready to be harvested and planted. It seems so silly now... but I really got into it.

I know exactly what you mean about games - I can stay up for hours playing freecell and spider solitaire and Snood - I mean I will be up at 1 in the morning on a school night to play that dumb stuff, BUT I CAN'T STOP. In the same way I can't stop eating a bag of Sunchips. So now I took the icon off the desktop, maybe the lazy factor of having to do 2 extra clicks to play will help.

message 205: by Steven (new)

Steven (tbones) | 592 comments yeah those games is bad news & the Sun Chips are very yummy and addictive...my wife did make a killer crumb cake which could become that way too. I'm a bad one when it comes to Tetris

message 206: by Cici (new)

Cici I have this game on my phone its a android phone and the game was a free app and its called air traffic control, sooo addicting! My fiance and I. Keep trying to beat each others high scores. He's currently in the lead :(.
Lately I've been playing tom clancey rainbow sixx since I don't own any sweet game systems.

Cici Hey, have you guys ever seen Soap Cake???? It looks like a cake and smells like a cake but it is soap, you can have these on your table for a party centerpiece and cut them into slices as favors for your guests to take home! I thought they were soooo cool... I may even get one for my babyshower! I kinda wanna learn how to make them so I can give them away as gifts. they also have cupcakes, icecream sundaes and other desserts.

message 208: by [deleted user] (new)

Never saw Soap Cake, you can't eat it?? Making soap is easy and you can make it as expensive as you like once you have the equipment. I went through a home soap making phase about 10 years ago - I scented them, colored them, made interesting shapes. I had lots of stuff (molds, ingredients, packaging, etc), but lost interest after a year or so. Sold the stuff for cheap in a garage sale, but one of my friends who I started making soap with still does it. She gives a lot to church bazaars and whatnot.

I went to school today and yesterday to help with scheduling. What a mess! There is hardly any room for any student to make any changes to their schedule because of tight, tight budget. A lot of kids got classes they did not even sign up for and they will be stuck with it. Weird stuff like pottery and web design. I felt bad for them, but nothing can be done unless the school board approves extra sections. Lots of people angry with me today!

Hope you are all well and healthy!

Steven (tbones) | 592 comments Soap cake hmmm I like birhtday cake instead it's very yummy :o)~ My wife wrote Happy Hatch day on my cake...the inside joke is my parents never did the nasty and I was dropped off by a stork...yep cause the other thing is just so wrong :o)
I will have to tell my wife about the cake soap though, it sounds very interesting.

message 210: by Cici (new)

Cici You cannot eat the soap cake you bathe with it and you can smell as yummy as cake! I may want to try to make one, one day. Jenn, u really do have many talents, what can u not do? :)

message 211: by Steven (new)

Steven (tbones) | 592 comments Yeah I know Cici but if I walked around smelling like cake I would be hungry all the time...also smelling like chocolate cake would definitely be interesting...maybe you can make your clothes out of fondont :o)

I am a jack of trades, master of none. I just like crafty things and I thought soap making would be up my alley because I am a chemistry teacher, too. But my soap didn't turn out nearly as well as my friends. Hers is really nice. I now buy mine at Bath and Body Works, 3 for $10. It's cheaper and way less messy. :-)

Cici U guys are funny. So what's everybody been up to? Happy late bday steven!! I hope it was a good one!

message 214: by [deleted user] (new)

Hey Steven, what's with the new photo? Did you draw that? Is it a portrait of someone you know? A self-portrait? :)

message 215: by Steven (new)

Steven (tbones) | 592 comments hey there Jenn and Cici,
Thanks for the bday thingy...it was a pretty good day, we barbequed and had cake, and I was off from work that night which was nice.
As for the new photo, yep I drew it and it was I guess a kind of zombie pic of me. I was just messing around on a note pad and a really good pen :o) I will probably change it out soon though.
Oh and I am in the middle of an awesome book called Power Down by Ben Coes right now. Talk about an action packed story with lot's of intense scenes. This book if turned into a movie would be a great summer blockbuster. It's got things blowing up all over...makes me want to watch Die Hard or True Lies.

I have no drawing talent at all. Just stick figures and the little flowers I doodle at staff meetings. This is why I teach science. All my beakers are squares without a top, all my flasks look a little obsene.

It's been rather silent here for the better part of a week, I hope everyone is well. I have been through the ringer of a family reunion which turned out to be a just another way for people who are supposed to love and support me to tell me the ways in which I should be living my life. You know I am apparantly one step away from being a spinster and according to one particularly nasty cousin, who chews with her mouth open, I just may be a lesbian. And those were the nice comments.

School started with students today and my classes are all very large. I do not have enough desks in one class, but a student or two have told me they are dropping, so at least all students might actually have a spot to sit down. Craziness. I wish that the members of State Congress would actually visit some of the schools and see what they are not funding properly. I don't know how I can possibly give each student some personal attention every day when each hour is only 56 minutes long and I have 35 students per class. I know I am short-changing them and I feel guilty, even though I really am not to blame. I guess it is the Catholic in me (and by the way I do not attend Mass enough either, thank you Aunt Lottie). But I will make the best of it and carry on.

Here's some good thoughts going out to you all, I hope you are all happy and that you smile before your head hits the pillow tonight.

Steven (tbones) | 592 comments Hey there peeps, I've been around just busy with the couple of books I'm in the middle of and work. Haven't had much time online with my son's prosthetics fittings for the past couple of weeks.

Sounds like you have had a rough couple of days, Cici. I am sorry that you have had to deal with the loss of a friend that you never got to resolve things with. That must be really hard. Just remember you are a good person and that there are a lot of people who love you and are there for you. And screw those people who disagree with your lifestyle and can't seem to come to terms with your choices - when they are pronounced perfect at the Pearly Gates then you can take their crap.

Get some rest, the baby needs it. And so do you. Smile. Now.

I was just offered a class at Baker called Environmental Science and I think I will take it - it is a little less money because there is no lab, but I am afraid if I start turning down classes that I will not be offered any in the future and that cash comes in handy, especially since I have had to take a 3% paycut with more to come. So I am pretty sure I am going to be the new Environmental Science teacr at Baker this fall.

Hope you are all well and still reading although your lives are busy . . .

Steven (tbones) | 592 comments Hello everyone, stopping in to say hi and see what you are all up to. Cici, how are you enjoying The Passage so far? There seems to be quite the following to that book now and Stephen King has had a lot to say about it as well.
The three books I am reading at the moment are really good. Power Down is so action packed. I could definitely see Michael Bay or Jerry Bruckheimer having something to do with the film adaption of this one. Thriller has been a lot of fun. It is a book full of suspense thriller short stories which could all make great films some day as well. And Her Sanctuary is not too shabby. It's a different genre than I am used to but the book flows ok and is keeping me reading it.
Oh and I hope you have all seen the previews for Let Me In. Talk about a really interesting vampire movie, and possibly a creepy one at that :o)

message 223: by Cici (new)

Cici I did finish the passage and I'm not sure if I liked it or not they leave u hanging.
**spoiler alert***
I thought it was going to be amazing when they all decided to take the injections and I was like yes this is awesome, the daywalkers then two seconds later amy throws all the injections into the fire and I was sooo mad. But then I'm thinking maybe she secretly gave injections?? So ill have to wait and see if I like it or not. I did see the previews for let me in and it ooks pretty creepy. Its wes cravens isn't it?
Hope everyone is doing well :) I'm sure ill finish mockingjay this week so ill let u know how I like it.

message 224: by Steven (new)

Steven (tbones) | 592 comments Keep in mind that The Passage is part of a trilogy so it should leave you hanging a bit or you probably wouldn't care enough to get the second book. As to the injections thing, I understand your feelings about that scene and I thought it was going the same way but after a bit I understood why it was done that way and just how cool it was that the author could stick his hand through our chest and yank on our emotions like that. What a skill. Stephen King has done that to me a few times as well. It definitely seems like Cronin grabbed your attention and was able to pull you into his world a bit.
What is the thing with this Mockingjay? I've seen a big display of these books at Walmart.

Mockingjay is the third book in a young adult trilogy that started with The Hunger Games. Now don't go all weird, several of the men at my school are reading this series and they like it, too. Check them out, they are quick reads and WE LOVE THIS SERIES.

message 227: by [deleted user] (new)

How can I have this many papers to check at just the end of the second week of school? I need to get a handle on this, I think that I may bleed to death from paper cuts.

On the bright side, the rain is helping my back yard turn green again, but I fear for the front. After an inch of rain over a couple of days, I think I can only see four blades of green grass. The rest of the front still looks like the Mojave desert.

I am really looking forward to the start of the new TV season - Detroit 187 looks good, so does the new Hawaii 5-0 (could there be hotter men on one show??). Last but not least, I was on channel 7 news last night, they were interviewing kids in my class for the Watchdog game (raising money for breast cancer research). I was caught on camera passing out papers. I wonder if someone from the new movie studio downtown saw me and will be calling to let me be in some movies now . . . :-)

I agree with you on the Paula Deen thing. I wish I coud taste her fried chicken and biscuits, I bet there is none better. I have actually made some of her recipes and they turn out well. And I wish I could taste your wife's yummy mocha caramel drizzled cupcakes.

What's your new picture?

message 230: by Steven (new)

Steven (tbones) | 592 comments Hey Jenn,

Cool to know you are a fan of Paula too but I guess who isn't right :o) So her recipes work out pretty good? Do you get them from watching the show or does she have a site that they can be printed from?
I wish I had a way to share my wife's baking with people on here. Her stuff is better than a lot of the grocery store bakeries and we only have one regular bakery in town that does specialty cakes and such and well they could really use some help. Their quality has really gone down hill.
My new picture on here is one I drew a long time ago. I actually doodled it on a piece of cardboard at work one day and liked it so much I saved it. Then years later with the help of a scanner and my paint program, I was able to give this character color and make him pop a bit. I called this one aging hero. Not every super hero can defy the aging process so I wondered what they might look like with their masks on. I am trying to find a new pic for next month but it might just be a photo of me...not sure yet.

I really like Paula's recipes, they come out just like she says - some of the other Food Network chefs (Sandra Lee and the Neely's) stuff just leaves too much room for error and it is very hit or miss on their recipes. I usually get the recipes from FoodNetwork.com. When I see one I think I might like, I print it off and when I am bored I try one. Ina Garten's (Barefoot Contessa) stuff almost always comes out, too. Rachel Ray's is good, but I can't finish in 30 minutes, not even 45 sometimes.

As for the recipes, what about putting them in word docs and then converting them to pdf files? But I think you would have to upload these to Facebook, not here.

Hope you are well and Cici - isn't the little one due soon?

Busy, busy, busy! So many papers to grade, but I get depressed because they are pretty awful. The students just don't give a rip. I am really sick of all of the teacher bashing going on and no one is taking a look at other issues - home life and societal influence. Seriously - we have changed the way teachers are educated and trained - no effect on student grades. We have changed the curriculum to make school more challenging and relevant - no effet on student grades. So which variable is left unchanged? HOME. The scientific method at work. I will get off my soapbox now. And get some Cheetos.

Which are your favorite Cheetos: Puffy or Crunchy? I have a hard time choosing because they get stuck in my teeth in different ways. I guess I am non-discriminatory when it comes to Cheetos texture, but I really only like the original flavor - no flaming hot or jalapeno for me. Give me the fake orange original flavor.

message 235: by [deleted user] (new)

message 236: by Steven (new)

Steven (tbones) | 592 comments Hey Jenn,I really like the big puffy Cheetos that are kind of twisted looking. They are so yummy :o)~
I usually have to fight my son for a few, and I haven't tried the hot or jalapeno yet but that sounds tastey too.
yeah what's up with Cici does she need some cheetos to make that kid come out.
Oh and has anybody here heard from Jennifer in a while? I sent her a note hoping all is well. As always I gotta check up on my peeps...maybe we should use some Cheetos on Jennifer...think they might drag her out of hiding :o)

message 237: by Cici (new)

Cici haha! funny conversation guys. no baby yet, but soon!!! I personally like the crunchy cheetos but flamin' hot cheetos are my favorite!! I love them!! My kids love the puffs, though.

I found the big pufy twisted ones and you are so right, Steven! OMG. They are a cross between puffy and crunchy, a great texture. Thanks for the tip.

Jennifer liked Mockingjay? Maybe it's the Southern heat?? But I checked out the rating in Goodreads and it got over 4 stars, so maybe it's you and I that are weird.

I have been very busy with school and teaching at night. I have not been reading a lot, I am so tired at the end of the day, my head hits the pillow and I have no desire at all to read. But this weekend I gave the ACT in the school library and I was looking around at all of the books and I felt those yearnings come right back to me. I need to do some better time management so I have time for my favorite passtime.

Happy Halloween, everyone!

Hahahaha! Cici maybe bein preggers made you wanna either: be hungry thus feel compelled to grow an inordinate amount of food (which we can be honest farmville internet food is all the satisfaction without the calories). Or... you have decided to go organic and figure maybe in a different life you were a farmer?
Both sound likely to me, afterall we have lived in Kentucky. Great place to grow food your not sure you want to eat, but have no problem selling it to your neighbors.

Sooo my dear friends. Just when you thought perhaps I have fallen off the face of the Earth, I appear with several words of wisdom.
First and most important I am learning that it is easier to be bad than good when your a redhead. That being said I will give ample examples.
It took me three months to find, entrap, get engaged, get pregnant, and get married (not necessarily in that order) my not-soon-enough-to-be ex. Why is it taking almost a year to be rid of him? Hmm food for thought.
I also need to complain a lil bit about false advertising. I had my three wonderful children for the Halloween weekend. Me and my mom planned a weekend full of crazy fun in Kentucky. Umm yea, first mistake. The advertisement was as follows: "Fun, exciting cidermill, enjoy our apple orchards, pumpkin patches, hayrides, corn mazes, farm life, haunted house, and of course our homemade pies, donuts and apple cider!".
So 6am rolls around Sat. Morning. We get on costumes (Taylor was a witch, Talia, a fairy princess butterfly and yes she had to be called all three...and my son was "night fury" the dragon). We paint faces, spray paint hair (which I should note is extremely hazardous to your health. How would I know this you ask? Well, it was quite obvious by the amount that made it up my nostrils and kept smearing down my face as the day progressed)...and loaded up the car! Hooray off to a great start! No tantrums and Talias makeup is only half-removed leaving a three winged butterfly over her face, great!
We drive 30 min. (Yes I should of been suspicious of the short distance-but hey I'm a mom of three. Ya don't look a gift horse in the mouth). The gps swears its "right here" stop! Do not pass go! Deposit $200.00... so after we figure out we are at the ass end of the farm we change course and alas! We make it. Hrm, is that a sheriff patrol car in the three car driveway? By golly it is! Wonderful protection is always highly rated in my book. He must be near the cider and donuts. So, kidddos. Where to? The pumpkin patch of course! Farmer Joe makes an appearance... "hey there lil ones. What're you supposed to be son? A lizard?" "I'm night fury, a dragon"says Ben affronted. "ya don't say? Wanna see what happened to the last dragon?"... he proceeds to escort us to his haunted house/shack gift shop. He plugs in a mirror and coaxes my kids to "have a looksie at the haunted house". The house turned out to be a porch. The mirror gratingly did a "ha!ha!haaa!" And the farmer Joe was so eager looking my kids were glad the "house" was a singular "porch".
When farmer Joe realized he wasn't impressing even the three year old he offered "why dontcha all go yonder dere at the punkin patch pick sum goodins while I fire up dis old tractor". So we took ten steps. Three palates of warted pumpkins. Yay! Only $12.00 apiece. After duly scruitinizing the three whole selection of wooden palates we picked three. Goody, the tractors smokin, must be ready. Wait, where is evryone else? Hmm its noon perhaps everyone else is sleeping in on a Sat morning the day before Halloween. More fun for us I guess! On the tractor we go! "Fire! Fire!" Talia shouts as grandma drags her frantic body which begins to go limp as if sleeping. Dead people can't fire tractor ride can they? We'll see!
Putt-putt, chug-chug. Were off at 1 mph. Doot-doot-doo. 10 seconds later. Look farm animals! A ummm Wilbur. And umm Billy the goat. Hey umm look birds in the sky! Isn't that something kids?...chug-chug...a green pond. Woww...a corn field. No wait, a corn stalk. Is that the apple orchard kids? Oh wait sorry guys, just a crab tree.
Chug-chug. Here we r back to ground zero. Where's the donuts mommy? We want pie. Sorry guys don't see donuts, sheriff was here first. Pies? Nope no cow pies either.
Quick get thepumpkins...to the car.
Muahaha look another car! They look excited. Maybe they know something we don't? Did we miss something?
"Wanna see what happened to the last Lightening Mcqueen, son?" We hear farmer Joe...
Nawwwww clueless suckers.

So after our botched morning at the cidermill we drive 45 min. To a kiddie haunted house. The ad didn't specify hours. But its for kids. Its 2pm. Its closed. Mmk turn around go back... 45 min later almost home "we gotta pee! Hurry! Hurry! I can't hold it" says the three year old. "She's not kidding momma" says the five year old.
"Yay! God bless Wal-Mart" says grandma.
I get potty duty. My son is yelling "boys can't go into the girls room! We have penis'!"..."its coming mommy" talia bops up n down crossing her legs. I swoop up the dragon...toilet paper the handicapped stall, deposit the midair peeing child...run to the door prop open the mens room with an eyeful to the mirror. "Sorry dude my sons a boy...never can be to safe...perverts and all"...Here comes grandma and taylor! Yay apples..cider..donuts! Grandma rocks for once. Taylor help your sister wipe...ben shake it and let's go! Into the car...back to the hotel. Taylor "I gotta pee". Hrmm hold it, your eight.
Blessed hotel. Lovely bed. Into swim suits. To the indoor pool. Hrm we forgot- face paint, hair. "Ohh the pool will take care of that" says grandma. Ok mom the rooms paid on your credit card not mine.
Into the jacuzzi the kids go. Hmm that water is turning colorful... grandma pulls out a bottle of shampoo. Wtf... ok she's insane. But who am I to judge.
Soap the kids...jacuzzi turns into a bubble rave party. Am I high?
Ok. Mom. That's a lot of suspicious bubbles. Oh look! Another kid!
Her grandpa says "wow look all the bubbles! That comes from the bathing suits. Left over laundry soap"
This old fart is officially my friend for life.
4 hours later. Its out time. I mean it this time...ok you don't come out I'm leaving you. I say to the three year old. As my son strips off his swimsuit exposing himself. Grandma gets the towel. I use the pool net to hook the rebellious 3 year old. Haha! Mom is smarter!
Out she goes. To the room. Into the tub. Dinner pizza.
Its not bedtime. Crap.
Oook let's say prayers anyway. Early bedtime. Sweet blessed bed!
