Savvy (savvysuzdolcefarniente) | 1458 comments I'm known for my creation of new words when needed...my friends oft' call me to task on this.
Recently, we were discussing in an on-line reading group the fact that many of us participate in more than one book group or club and someone suggested a word for such a person. I came up with the following, submitted to my on-line dictionary for such and it was approved promptly...here goes....

polybibliomadist - A person who belongs to and participates in multiple book groups or clubs on-line or F2F.

ex. I have many friends who are such avid readers and read with so many different groups that they are aptly deserving of the highly esteemed moniker polybibliomadist.

Savvy (savvysuzdolcefarniente) | 1458 comments Carol, I'm sure you wear many hats other than Polybibliomadist

Some in my book group suggested these terms for people who participate in only ONE group....

Monobibliomadist or Unibibliomadist!!!

These are great terms to throw out a Holiday Parties where chatter inevitably turns to the question..."and so WHAT do you do?"

"Oh me???...I'm a _______ "(insert one of the above! :-)

Carol | 10410 comments You just burst my bubble. Shoot. I thought all hung on to my every word.

How have you been? Busy I suppose.

message 6: by Carol (new)

Carol | 10410 comments This is a little off track, but certain members of my extended family(not Mine) speak another language. I have stopped inviting them to dinners and such, because I would slave over a nice dinner to serve only to have them not speak English, so I always felt like the maid.

I would like a word besides rude to describe this behavior.

Great word, thanks Anna

When I'm in Norway with my husband, everyone is very nice and they all speak English. But after the drinks are served and everyone warms up, the conversation inevitably lapses into Norwegian. I can follow simple conversation in Norwegian, but when things get perking I'm lost.

Finally, I'll catch the drift of something and make a remark in English. Like turning a switch--everyone speaks English again.

Repeat ad lib.

David | 4568 comments This must be a strange atavism. The Normans ruled Sicily around the 12th Century, if I'm not mistaken.

That's amusing. Not like when I am in a crowd of Spanish speakers, who get rude or ignore me when I offer a comment in either English or my quatro y viente palabras.

Kylie (conflictofinterest) | 3 comments "Withe" is a bit of a new word, in a sense. It does have an actual meaning, but I have a friend who decided it should be "withe" instead of "with the."

Robin (goodreadscomtriviagoddessl) it is probably to save on the time it takes to type.

I think facebooking is illegal in 49 states, Steve-O.

Note: For years and years, I thought Dan-O was spelled like so. Now I learn that all along, on his birth certificate, it reads "Danno."

Too close to Drano, in my mind. Thank God he lives in Hawaii, not Flushing, NY.
