I seem to recall Castlemaine was a whole lot of fun in Forever Amber. Or am I thinking of another mistress?

I haven't read Forever Amber (yet), so I'm not entirely sure. Plaidy has Castlemaine being pretty demanding and having a whole lot of lovers; the actress Nell Gwyn is a lot more fun (in Plaidy's world anyway).

I'll think of something else to nominate. I work at a library and I believe I first read about the book in Library Journal; it was probably in the pre-pub section and I didn't notice. I'll think of a new and actually published book!

Forever Amber is the one book that my grandparents ever told my mother she couldn't read. She still finds that amusing.
It really is tame by today's comparison. She does get around the bedrooms a lot but it's all behind closed doors.
Castlemaine is quite demanding - but she's also a lot of fun, imo!You can be both, right? right?!

Anyway, she's my favorite of Charles mistresses - and I think she was his true love, even though she was greedy and grasping...
I'll save the rest of my opinions for later - in case we read it :)
Forever Amber has been on my to-read list forever!
Lets read something fun! The African Dog one was difficult for me even tho the country was different. Then I've been struggling thru the Kite Runner. I am ready for something fun & that I can get lost in!!
Hopefully these romance ones (whichever one wins) should be fun - I think anything with Charles II would be, and we have a couple here!Anyway, nominating is closed! Time to vote!

Okay everyone, it's that time of the month - time to nominate! Anyone who would like to nominate ONE book may do so in this thread.
The theme this month is ROMANCE (BEFORE 1945) (any country, fiction or non-fiction) in honor of Valentine's Day (crazy to think of that considering we haven't hit Christmas yet!). Very very flexible here! I'm sure there are a ton of great romantic books out there that we haven't read as a group yet. The 1945 date is just to keep us around WWII or before, but if you have a great 1950s love story, by all means you can nominate it.
If you want to see if we have already read a book you are thinking of nominating, just look at the sections where we discuss the books (E. Royalty Monthly Group Read and History Monthly Group Read). The very first thread under each of those sections lists all the books we have read as a group (Books We Have Read as a Group).
Please try to check amazon or some other site to make sure the book is easily available - the last thing we want is to nominate some great book that no one can get! If you nominate more than ONE book, only the first book listed will make it into the voting thread (so save additional books for the next months!). Also, if the book doesn't fit the theme, I won't add it to this month's voting list, but I will carry it over to the next theme that it does fit under if you would like.
Feel free to nominate one book of your choice in this thread until December 17th, 9pm Eastern.
At around that time, I'll make a voting poll and list all the nominated books in it, and people can vote in the poll until the poll closes (set to last through December 22nd). Discussion will start on February 1st.
