But I just finished a book that I think has jarred me into feeling something beyond my own life.
A Soft Place To Land by Susan Rebecca White. I came ot it kicking & screaming like every other book in the last few months. It gathered dust on the table next to my bed, got carried about the house, only to return to my room.
A deeply moving story, both hopeful & full of grace. The writer builds characters & interweaves relationships - well, you just want to be in their lives.
A good read.

So sorry to hear about your loss. I cannot think about how it must feel to lose a child. My thoughts and prayers go out to you.
I am so glad you found a book that spoke to you. Please don't give up on reading, it can take you to places you would like to be, especially when life is hard.

I do listen to some audio books, but rarely when I'm knitting or stitching. I used to listen when I was working, but my current job requires me to actually interact with people more so it's a bit harder. I have a few to listen to right now on my iPhone, so maybe I'll start doing that more.

Julie, no words except to say I'm sorry for your pain. So glad you found a book that moved you and I hope you'll find more as time goes on. My thoughts & prayers are with you and your family.

I am sorry to hear this, it was actually the opposite for me, three and a half years ago we lost our five year old son and reading was my escape and I haven't stopped reading since. On a side note, there is a wonderful online support group for parents who have lost a child and/or siblings who have lost a sibling called compassionatefriends.org My prayers are with you.
Marianne

Will keep reading to see how I do. Last year I read 193. We'll see if I can read 200.

145 - Top O' the Mourning by M. Hunter ***
146 - Red House Mystery by A.A. Milne ****
147 - Club Dead by C. Harris AB ****
148 - Last Illusion by R. Bowen ****
149 - Night of the Living Deed by E.J. Copperman ***
150 - Toast Mortem by C. Bishop ****
151 - Maiden's Tale by M. Frazer ****
152 - PJ and the Titan's Curse by R. Riordan AB ****
153 - Learning in the Light of Truth by M. Bateman
****

I met my goal at the end of October! So far I'm at 147 read for the year. I'm hoping to get closer to 200 before the year is out.

I'm sure I'll have the same goal next year too.

maybe as you have achieved this with a month to go you should give yourelf a slightly harder target-225?

i was hoping to hit 200 but thats nt going to happen
next yr considering back at full time and now reading slowed down i think will stick to 144 as that will be harder to get to then this yr

I haven't been able to add to my list in a while. I only read 5 books in July and none at all in August. In late July my husband and I moved our offices to our home and put the building we had been located in up for sale. It's still on the market; real estate is very slow in this area. Also in July my largest local client had a major personnel change in their office which necessitated a drastic adjustment to my work schedule, leaving absolutely no time for reading. I was finally able to get back to reading a little bit in September, and I read some in October and November, but not nearly as much as I would have liked. I'll add books when I can, but I'm way behind schedule for the year. I really don't think I'm going to make it to 144. :-(

Thanks Marianne - I just saw this. I haven't been checking in as much lately.
I am so sorry about your son. I would say it gets better, but I know it truly doesn't.
Thank you for the site recommendation, I have been looking to find a place where people with similar experience are. I think it will help.

Julie and Marianne, from the bottom of my heart I am so sorry for your losses. I cannot understand your heartache but I will certainly pray for a little peace for the both of you and your families!

I have been busy reading, but haven't paid too close attention to many of the posts, so just saw your post about losing your son. I am so sorry for your loss. The grief journey when one has lost a child is a long and windy one and everyone makes it in their own way. I, too, lost a son and about a year ago I found a site called ForMomSOnly. It is part of a larger site called Daily Strength. All the women on the site have lost a child, and they are strong and compassionate, crazed some of the time, and each is making the journey and offering comfort and support to one another. If you go to www.dailystrength.org you can see what I am talking about.
Peace,
Pat

Julie...I only just read your post as I don't check in with this thread very often. I can only imagine how much grief there must be and how the Christmas Season will likely be even more painful for you. Please know that others are thinking about you and that we care and wish you solace.
