How is your 144 books for 2010 going
It is ok Jery I am with you! I just got a new job and have been working sooo much that I can't even stay up long enough to read when I get home.
i am glad that the group has helped and that is what the targets ar-what to strive for and to encourage.i thnk reading can help keep your mind off things
Sounds tough Meghan- I hope it lightens up a little for you! Maybe you can grab a few minutes to read on your lunch break?
Jery, I too can understand. 1988 was like that for my family. We really don't want to talk about it, but the high(low) lights are--6 deaths in my immediate family, daughter's best friend's Mum killed in a car smash, I was seriously injured in yet a different smash, and 2 of my friends lost children (1 miscarrage at 8 months, the other was a 12 yo who lost a battle with cancer.) By the time the year was over, I had decided that from there out, the year 1988 did NOT exist except in nightmares.
I'm only at 69 books. Ugh. Working away from the town I live in and only going home on the weekends has not left me much time or energy for reading. And now I started my masters program. I'll have even less time to read.
Oh Ann, I am so sorry - that truly sounds like a horrible year. Mine is a cakewalk by comparison - just going through a bitter contentious divorce, initiated shortly after the death of my father. I am trying to help my kids get through as unscathed as possible but their father is not helping in that regard in the least - or with anything else. As they say - (hopefully) this too shall pass. I am glad you pulled through your year of trials and will keep it in my heart as a reminder that things aren't so bad on my end :)
i thought i had broke the 100 mark...but i'm only at 94...i have 8 books checked out right now. LOL! hope to make it to 144...but it's no pressure, just pleasure!
it's been awhile since i've checked in on here, but i'm currently on book 68. i had hoped to get a bit closer to the 144, even though i knew i wasn't going to make it the whole way. however, i decided to train for half marathon in january, so that took up a lot of my time between february and may. then, i decided to train for ANOTHER half marathon, so my time to read has still been cut short due to running. the good news is that this race involves a cross-country plane ride, so i plan on taking a few quick-type reads, such as Breaking Dawn, to knock out a few spots during my trip!if i can get over 80 i'll be happy, and if i get close to 100 i'll be ecstatic!
I finally got around to updating August and September. I hit 144 in August. I'm now up to 152. I know that if it hadn't been for audio books, I wouldn't have reached this goal so soon.
wow Maria, that's a lot of running! Maybe audiobooks would help you get some "reading" in too? Congrats though - that is awesome!
Amazing Maria, if I could run even a quarter marathon, I wouldn't be disappointed if I didn't make 144 books this year. Have a great trip and run!
Stay positive Susan! You don't need to make it to 144, just passing the amount you read last year is good enough ! :)
you can make what ever number you want to Susan. Like Mackenzie said--most of what this challenge is really about is reading more books than you did last year. Not that I'm going to make that--there have been too many months where I didn't get my usual 3.5 books every 2 days read.
Okay, I'm up to over 170, but my reading has slowed due to children going back to school responsibilities, and I'm not sure how many more there will be. The only thing I know for sure is that I need more shelves!!
This is my first time posting for this group since I just joined this group and haven't spent too much time on this site. This is the first year in a while that I will surpass the 100 mark and I want the challenge of making it to 144. When they say no childrens books does that eliminate teen or young adult books?
when they say kids books they are talking about picture books and ones with only a few words per page...stuff that is YA is fine
Yay! I made it with time to spare. I thought I might not, because I haven't been working full-time so read alot. Way too much, as a matter of fact :) but now that I'm going to be working again more consistently I know I won't be reading so much and was kinda worried. YAY! Now I'll just keep my list for fun. BTW, hope you all are going to have a WONDERFUL rest of the year, for those who have had a lousy one so far :)
I am in awe at the number of books some people on here read. I still have quite a way to go to get to 144 but I am going to strive for it. Working full time interferes with my reading time - there's a chance we'll be going on strike where I work next week for a while so I should have loads of reading time then!
You know, it kinda scares me to look at my list and wonder just how much time I spend reading. Its a good thing I'm back to being busy with work because (a) I really need the money! and (b) I can be such a slug and just read all day without hardly moving! But I still would rather be a reader than watching TV all the time :)
I still have a ways to go to reach 144 books! ( Ive read 21 so far this year ) - however, that number is "up" from last year! =)I enjoy Romance books including Love Inspired books and Cozy mysteries. I love to receive suggestions for those genres ~ send me a message with your suggestions!
Thanks in advance!
I just passed the halfway mark... not going to hit 144 in only 3 months, but I'm still on track to pass last year's total. Yay me! :)

Hi there Tonya. You and I (and probably lots of others) are at around the same count. That's why your post caught my eye. Anyway, I wanted to suggest a title for you. Coming Home by Rosamunde Pilcher, is one of my long time favourite books. Ms Pilcher is perhaps better known for The Shell Seekers, another really good book. Hope you happen upon something that you will really enjoy. Happy reading.

Melissa don't worry I am in about the same boat you are in. I absolutely love Debbie Macomber books if you have read any. One of my favorites by her is Mrs. Miracle it is a very cute and endearing story. There is also a new sequel to this one that just came out. It is a little holiday oriented but her other books are just as good.
I also like Jennifer Crusie, she is lighthearted romance with mystery added in most of them. I have just recently passed last years count by 3 books. I still have 20+ to go but I still have a few months left also.
Congrats to all those that have already reached their goal what ever that goal was :)
I've read 91 books so far... I don't think I'll reach 144 but it's worth trying :p
I think I will probably make 144 books this year- but have felt it quite a tough target for me. I've seen myself try to force 12 books a month! So next year think I may target myself to reading 100 or 104!
I doubt I'll make 144, but I've passed how many I read last year so that's a start. I'd like to make the 1/2 way point right now, which would mean 28 more books between now and the end of the year. Not thinking that will happen, but you never know! My problem is I like to stitch and knit at night as well, so I have to divide my time between all three things. If only I didn't have to work, or sleep!

Maybe not for a book that requires a lot of concentration, but some beloved old favorites?

I would have to agree if I didn't have to do those two pesky things I'd get alot more done... especially reading! And I'd probably reach my goal of 144 instead of puttering along at only 67!

First I thought I'd blow by the 144, then I thought I'd make 100 at least..now I'll be happy if I just hit 50 this year! It's been a year that has rocked my family and myself to the core - being a person who started reading at age 4 and considered Shogun one of my favorite books by age 10. I've never ever encountered anything that put me off reading before. But I am slogging through, and if it wasn't for this group I might've given up reading altogether this year. Every book I can truly say I enjoyed, and forgot about the world for a little while, is another success. And my list of books TBR is growing larger and larger due to the great discussions and recommendations! I don't see it as an umanageable pile..more as a light at the end of the tunnel :)
