Athira (Reading on a Rainy Day) (readingonarainyday) I managed to get to # 56. I finished 4 books last week. Somehow, I don't think I will be getting much reading done over the next 3 weeks, since I have a thesis to defend and need to focus on that now. But I'll probably still manage to read a few in between.

Your thesis is much more important that the random reading!! lol Just think though, when you are done how much free time you will have now that that milestone is done. :) Good Luck!!

Thanks, Darcy! LOL! I should cut down on my reading, haha! But yeah, my eyes are already looking at the silver lining! Can't wait to be done, so that I can read loads.

message 1504: by Ginger (new)

Ginger I came into this challenge a little late, but have read 32 books so far since January. I seriously dount I will hit 144!! I usually read between 35-45 books a year. I'm just hoping I can reach my goal of 55-60!! I'm truly amazed at everyone in this group! Personally, I can't read more than 1 book at a time..just seems weird to me personally..lol...never have been able to do that!! Good Luck everyone & Happy Reading!!!!!!

message 1505: by Lisa S (new)

Lisa S (kasey_k_fan) I finished # 108 this morning.

Sallie(GeorgiaGirl) (shuga) I just finished #84.

message 1507: by Donnajo (new)

Donnajo I was better in the beginning last month and this month so far are my worst counts. I think I'm up to 70 or 71. Not sure. I did read 2 books this week they zipped. I'm up to maybe 110 in Blow out by Coutler aand I don't know what I'm up to in The bane Affair by Alison Kent. I had started it awhile back now I have to start over again. It's a brava book. And Bel Canto I not far at all. I'm at the shore from friday until this wednesday and tuesday is my birthday so part of that day I'm solo because my sister has a appt up north and my bil is taking her so I will probably spent the time reading. I read more yesterday than I have in awhile down here but today I didn't do as good. But hope to read after catching up online.

message 1508: by LynnB (new)

LynnB I haven't ever counted my books before, so I had no idea how many I'd read before the end of the year. I now know that 144 is well-within my sights. I have completed 123 so far and have about 5 sitting around the house in various states of completion. There has been a lot going on this summer for me, so my reading has slowed down a bit but I am still getting a few books a week done.

It's been fun seeing how everyone is doing without the stress of trying to one-up anyone. I like the idea of a personal challenge on this book count, so every book read by anyone is...well...a book read!

message 1509: by Ann aka Iftcan (new)

Ann aka Iftcan (iftcan) | 394 comments Hum, I just had a thought. At the end of the year, we need to see how many books we read as a GROUP. We do that on a couple of other challenges I do. Maybe I'll set up an Excel program to do that. I mean, is anyone else curious about how many books we'll have read en masse? I bet with the totals we could rival a major city's library book counts. :o)

message 1510: by Mackenzie (new)

Mackenzie RM (mackenzierm) | 87 comments That'd be really cool to find out how much we've read as a group!

message 1511: by Kari (new)

Kari | 24 comments I'm up to 112 or 113. I'm sure I'll make it.

message 1512: by Donnajo (new)

Donnajo Well today is my birthday and I'm still at the shore. Was going home tomorrow but now staying until monday. Yippy. I'm pushing to get though 9th judgement so my sister can read it before it has to go back the 19th. She got 2, 7 day books out of the library yesterday and I decided to read this one first. I would have probably been able to finish blow out today but now I have to rush to read the library book. It now started raining so not a beach day.

message 1513: by Donna (new)

Donna (donnasmith) | 124 comments I liked it. It's a quick afternoon read.

message 1514: by Donnajo (new)

Donnajo if I ever get offline I might get some of it read. lucky I had a sample of it on the nook so that took me up to chapter 7 I think but I read the prologue and forgot I read that much on the nook already. So it was wasted reread time. Lucky for the short chapters.

Jim son of Jim (formerly PhotoJim) (jim_formerly_photojim) | 158 comments Happy belated Donnajo.

message 1516: by Andrea (new)

Andrea | 56 comments I'm at 81 now. I hope I will make it.

message 1517: by Donnajo (new)

Donnajo Thanks Jim. Another overcasted day here. But they say the sun will break out later in the day.
Finished James Patterson book last night now up to page 80 in Think Twice by Scottoline.

message 1518: by Jackie (new)

Jackie Lane (jaxlane) | 126 comments I am reading book #62 and listening to book #63. I doubt I will make the 144 bar that I set for myself, but this is the first time I have kept track of how many books I have read in a year.

message 1519: by Bob (new)

Bob | 1 comments I already finished my 144 books so i will change my goal to 300.

message 1521: by Afsana (new)

Afsana (afsanaz) happy birthday donnajo

let me now what you think of Think twce as am considering iof to add it to my tbr

I like the idea of seeing how much we read on mass and also we could see if in average people managed it and what the average read was and then think the amount to set for next year

message 1522: by Jennifer C (new)

Jennifer C Great idea about using the average to set the amount for next year. lol for a straggler like me, I hope its not more than the 144 lol so many of you guys can read so much... I am not doing too horribly bad but I am still reading my 58th book and listening to my 59th. Hopefully today's readathon will bring those numbers way up.

message 1523: by chucklesthescot (new)

chucklesthescot My problem is that I quit a book as soon as I find it boring or if I don't connect with it, so I spend half my reading time on these, limiting how many I can get finished!

message 1524: by Lisa S (new)

Lisa S (kasey_k_fan) I'm on book #112 now.

message 1525: by Shay (new)

Shay | 330 comments I just finished book 63; done in about 5-6 weeks. I somehow keep choosing a lot of longer books so the number of books I read a month has gone down.

message 1526: by Afsana (new)

Afsana (afsanaz) but at least the long ones are done and you can use short ones to catch ups

message 1527: by Shay (new)

Shay | 330 comments Afsana wrote: "but at least the long ones are done and you can use short ones to catch ups"

I'm reading Drood right now, 771 pages. So, I continue to pick long books. But, I find that if I don't read what I want to read, no matter what the length, I don't seem to be able to read quickly.

message 1528: by LynnB (new)

LynnB 128 down, 16 to go!

message 1529: by Gina (new)

Gina (ginrobi) | 84 comments Go, Lynn, go!!! That is amazing!

Okay, I'm on book #70, so I'm almost halfway through. Honestly, I don't know if I'll be able to his 144 this year. Keeping fingers crossed!

message 1530: by Jessica B (new)

Jessica B | 88 comments I just finishd #45 and am on to #46. Which means I am below 100 to go. I don't think I am goign to hit my goal but i am super excited about the progress I have made this year. I have already read way more then last year and it's only July! woo-hoo!

message 1531: by Mackenzie (new)

Mackenzie RM (mackenzierm) | 87 comments I'm on my 74th book, I'm a bit behind where I'd wanted to be, but I still think I'm doing pretty good. :)

message 1532: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia (cynhoskison) I'm on 67. Very behind, but still excited. A vacation and some longer books have slowed me down. I'm going through my library and finding the shortest books to read, until I catch up!

message 1533: by Ronda (new)

Ronda Tutt (rondatutt) Hi everyone, I hit the 100 mark of my goal. Just 44 more books to go and I am excited because I know if I keep reading the way I am I will out do my goal of 144 books for the year. This is the first time for me to read this many books, I can't believe it. I love B&N and my Nook because now I can read anywhere I go and buy and download the book i want to read. I love it.

message 1535: by Shay (new)

Shay | 330 comments Afsana wrote: "Shay wrote: "Just hit 76 books, I think that's about 6 weeks worth."

No, 6 weeks. I normally read about 700-900 books a year. This year it's looking like I'll average about 50 or so books a month, so only about 600 this year, in total. (Wasn't keeping track until I joined Goodreads.)

message 1539: by Afsana (new)

Afsana (afsanaz) wow that is a lot of books!!!

message 1541: by Gina (new)

Gina (ginrobi) | 84 comments Whew! I'm almost to my halfway point! I finished 71 books as of this morning. I'm currently on page 38 of book #72, and once done, would officially put me at halfway to this year's goal. I'm guessing I'm at a "wait-and-see" point.

Holy crap! Are you serious?! I freaked myself out when I read a total of 187 two years ago. Wow!

message 1543: by Shay (new)

Shay | 330 comments I think it's obvious I don't have a life + I have insomnia. I don't watch really any TV, so, I read a lot.

Ronda Tutt (rondatutt) Shay wrote: "I think it's obvious I don't have a life + I have insomnia. I don't watch really any TV, so, I read a lot."

Shay don't feel bad, I think a lot of us have insomnia too. I know I do and end up reading till 2 or 3 in the morning and sometimes if the book is really good, I will read it till 7 am and finish it. I sleep till 11 or 12 and then start my day.

I have found that I perfer to read than to watch TV. Dont get me wrong, I don't ever miss True Blood on HBO - LOL But here lately, there is nothing on TV to watch that is any good. Even the news sucks because we hear the same ole crap and it is depressing so I dont watch TV. I perfer my paranormal fantasy - LOL

Of course i can get away with this because I am Retired/100% Disabled Army Veteran and don't have to work. My kids are in their 20's and live their own lives in their own places giving me lots of grandkids - LOL

message 1546: by Alyssa (new)

Alyssa (alyssa_hesper) I'm reading #110 and about to start listening to #111

message 1547: by Ann aka Iftcan (new)

Ann aka Iftcan (iftcan) | 394 comments I too am retired medically Ronda. There are days when I can barely move so just eating and visiting "the facilities" as they say, is a major undertaking. On those days I can read up to 4 or 5 books. And I too suffer from insomnia. There are a few programs that I watch on tv--True Blood, NCIS (I'm a big Gibbs fan), The Forgotten, Eureka, Haven and a few programs on History Internation. But basically I spend my time reading, playing on the computer and sewing (I quilt and make costumes) and, say once a week I spend 15 minutes cleaning the house--if it needs it or not. :o) Actually I pay someone to come in once a week to clean it. I DO cook tho. Cooking and sewing are the only 2 things I do that are even remotely domestic.

message 1548: by Shay (new)

Shay | 330 comments I have arthritis and the doctor is projecting that I will be completely disabled in about 8-15 years. I'm late 30's now. So, if I'm not playing with the kids, I just kick back with my books. Other than cooking and baking, I don't have any other hobbies except reading. Most of the shows I follow, like True Blood, Dexter, and The Tudors, are as you know, short. The seasons are only 12 or so episodes, so I don't watch a lot of TV. (Well, I also love Food Network, but it's more of a background kind of noise rather than actively watching.)

message 1549: by Ronda (new)

Ronda Tutt (rondatutt) @ Ann aka Iftcan - LOL, I am a Gibs fan too, only there is nothing but reruns on now. I watch a movie every once in awhile but mostly just read. Its funny how our bodies give out on us but our minds can still remain strong as long as we read and apply our thinking process. I love to sow too. I don't sow much any more since my kids moved out but I keep telling them to give me a granddaughter so I can make some dresses - LOL I'm not very good at making boy clothes. Thank god for goodreads, I love meeting and chatting with others who love to read like I do and talk about good books - LOL

@ Shay, its good that you spend time with the kiddo's. My kids always kept me so busy especially when they were in High School. Sometimes I feel a little lost because the house is so big and a little to quiet sometimes. But then there are times I am thankful for the quiet and my free time so I can read.

You guys are great and a true inspiration of goodness just by having or being in this group and interacting with others who may be in the same boat.
