message 1251: by Wendy (new)

Wendy (wldinnis) I just finished #50 today which I thought was a really good second book in the series.

message 1252: by Donnajo (new)

Donnajo I'm down to 60 pages in that book. Got some read this morning. Did pick up Worst case at the library almost got Eileen Goudge's newest but resisted. I'm going to the shore for the weekend to help watch my nephew's dog so I'm hoping to sit on the deck (if the weather is nice) with Tessie and get some reading done. I'm hoping to get though most of Patterson between today and tomorrow so I can hand it over to my sister and finish up Knitting by Bartlett. Take The Women by Boyle (book club read) and fast track by Fern michaels with me. I was going to take something else instead but I'm better off working to finish what I have started. I have other books down at the shore that I can read if I have too.

message 1253: by Jackie (new)

Jackie Lane (jaxlane) | 126 comments Donnajo - Worst Case was a very quick read and enjoyable at that.

message 1254: by Donnajo (new)

Donnajo I'm going to start reading as soon as I get offline then stick in the other book to try and get though maybe tonight. Yes, it's that other series and not a Alex cross book so maybe it will go faster than Alex's have been lately.
I put Danielle Steel's and MHC's newest on reserve but have along wait. I also put Sparks newest which is Last song but I think I read it already when it came out I need to double check in my journal.

message 1255: by Lisa S (new)

Lisa S (kasey_k_fan) i just finished #63 I think. I'll have to go back and look. Bastard Out of Carolina

That's impressive Barbara! Do you know how many books you read last year?

I just finished #78 with Immortal in Death. I have Rapture in Death already waiting. I see I'm not the only one who's currently enjoying these books! I actually listened to most of this one and the audio is really good! Peabody's voice is a little weird, but so far this was the best audiobook I've heard (my experience is fairly limited though).

Jim son of Jim (formerly PhotoJim) (jim_formerly_photojim) | 158 comments I hit the halfway point this morning. Yeah! No triple digits, but a good rate none the less.

message 1258: by Donna (new)

Donna (donnasmith) | 124 comments Congrats. Happy reading!

message 1259: by Wendy (new)

Wendy (wldinnis) I am reading book 53 right now.

message 1260: by Donnajo (new)

Donnajo Okay I need to start a different book today that I can zip though. This slow down of reading because the book hasn't grabbed me yet is getting old. Maybe it's time for a few Harlequin or something so I get my 12 books in for the month.

message 1261: by Lisa S (new)

Lisa S (kasey_k_fan) I have I think 3 more til I hit halfway.

message 1262: by Gina (new)

Gina (ginrobi) | 84 comments I finished another last night, which brings me to 47 books so far this year. If I can finish the current one by Friday, I'll be on track. I'm hoping to hit 12 per month to make the 144 at the end of the year.

message 1263: by Afsana (new)

Afsana (afsanaz) good luck gina

message 1264: by Kim (new)

Kim I've just read my 50th book- The Ice Cream girls. I am on track for the year- but under target by two this month. I am trying to read 12 each month. Last month I read a few more. I'm still not sure whether I will achieve the whole 144- I think 2 books a week is usually a more comfortable target for me!

message 1265: by Afsana (new)

Afsana (afsanaz) Kim wrote: "I've just read my 50th book- The Ice Cream girls. I am on track for the year- but under target by two this month. I am trying to read 12 each month. Last month I read a few more. I'm still not sure..."

but as you are a head thats o as by this month if we have 12 per month as an ideal to achieve 144 you should have read at least 48

So with 50 you are ahead

I hit #61 early this morning (i'm working nights this week) and currently have 5 other books in various stages of being complete (can you say book ADD) - so I should hit #62-66 by the end of the week and then adding read-a-thon books - i'm hoping for 50% by the end of the first week of May (barring any real life schtuff)

message 1267: by Donnajo (new)

Donnajo I was searching for a certain book this morning and looking though some bags of books still haven't found the one I'm looking for but pulled a few other's out that I think I'll get though sooner than later and fast. I just might make 12 books after all this month. I'm hoping to do the read a thon or try to do it.

message 1268: by Barbara ★ (new)

Barbara ★ Just finished book 112 and currently reading Stealing the Dragon: A Cape Weathers Investigation.

message 1269: by Donnajo (new)

Donnajo I keep putting off going back and reading The Women by TC Boyle the book I need to read for May 13th for the border's book group. It's the story that deals with Frank Lloyd Wright told though the women he loved. Has anyone read this book? I'm 40 pages in. I don't know if it's because it's wordy or just I know it's not a fast read. I hate to miss another book group. I been to 2 and haven't been to 2. I should try and pick that up first thing in the morning and read for 1 hour or read so many pages a day. I don't know what I'm going to do about this book. I'm going to the complex that has borders today for something else I'm thinking of going in borders picking up the book and going in the cafe for 1 hour and reading it with a drink or something. Maybe I'll get someplace with the book hopefully.

message 1270: by Sallie(GeorgiaGirl) (new)

Sallie(GeorgiaGirl) (shuga) So far I have finished 52 getting ready to start 53 which means 148 books to finish by December. So time to get busy...

message 1271: by Ann aka Iftcan (new)

Ann aka Iftcan (iftcan) | 394 comments Er, its May 1 (barely) And I just posted my April list--I only need to read another 15 books to have completed the challenge. Now I find myself asking "Do I spend too much time reading?"

To which I then respond--NAH, can't spend too much time reading. :o)

message 1272: by Wendy (new)

Wendy (wldinnis) I have finished 53 as of the end of April.

message 1273: by Susan (new)

Susan (superbookfreak) | 115 comments I think that my reading for this year isn't where I want it to be, but there is life and family and right now there is so much that is going on that it makes it hard to read.

message 1274: by BJ Rose (new)

BJ Rose (bjrose) | 93 comments I also posted my April list, and a summary of # of books read in each genre. I keep a reading diary that includes # of pages for each book, and I was going to do a year-to-date total pages, but decided that would be for a later time. Curiosity is fine, but reading is better!

message 1275: by Donnajo (new)

Donnajo Well I was able to get in 13 for the month. Hopefully I'll get something finished today if I ever get offline. 57 for the year so far.

message 1276: by Jackie (new)

Jackie Lane (jaxlane) | 126 comments I finished 12 (which is my best month so far) and I have 2 that are almost finished.

message 1277: by Gina (new)

Gina (ginrobi) | 84 comments Afsana wrote: "good luck gina"

Thanks, Afsana. I managed to do it, finishing another book on Thursday. Which means, I averaged 12 books per month, so I am on track. Trouble is, I don't think I'll get twelve read this month, and that'll put me behind. *sigh* I just can't win, LOL!

message 1280: by Donnajo (new)

Donnajo I have to get in as much as possible now because I don't know what summer and going to the shore is going to do with my reading. I don't seem to get in as much down there as when I'm home. Not that I'm complaining.

thats when you need plenty of audio's!!!

message 1282: by Ruth (new)

Ruth | 15 comments just finished #116 - a lot of mine are audio - i have a few chubby chunksters in there too.

message 1283: by Athira (new)

Athira (Reading on a Rainy Day) (readingonarainyday) I ended April at #34. Nowhere near where I should be, but my reading pace did pick up in April!

message 1284: by Lisa S (new)

Lisa S (kasey_k_fan) I'm starting May with #68. I just finished that one now on to #69.

message 1285: by Samantha (new)

Samantha As of the last day in April, I completed 83 books. So proud of myself. I know that the weather is getting warmer and I know I won't be able to read as much. So I'm trying to get in as much as I can....only 61 more books in the year to go and we are not even half way through!!

message 1286: by Renee (new)

Renee (pontiacgal501) | 36 comments I have read 12 books so far for the year. It doesn't sound like alot to you all but that is a very good number for me. With work and family it's hard to get reading in on the weekdays. I also don't listen to audio. They sound so boring to me. I tried to listen to one at work while I worked but it was just boring. So I went back to listening to Yahoo music.

message 1287: by Roseann (new)

Roseann | 185 comments The read a thon really helped me. I am now almost half-way there, YAY!

I also, don't get rid of books. My husband always jokes when I say I want our new house to have a library, that our house IS a library.

message 1288: by Jackie (new)

Jackie Lane (jaxlane) | 126 comments My husband want to have a book burning party because our house is overrun with books.

Book burning parties might be followed by threw husband out parties. He better watch the suggestions as he is navigating in dangerous territory. There be dragons and giants where he's walking.

Donna, that is his threat. He would NEVER do it, because he would be worried what I would throw out that was his. I am sure I would pick a "prized possession" to toss out.

Gina (ginrobi) | 84 comments Started Savor the Moment (Bride Quartet, #3) by Nora Roberts on Friday, finished it Saturday afternoon, LMAO! I'd say I'm on a roll, but there was no putting this book down! If I can keep this up this month, maybe I'll reach what I hoped! That's a total, so far, of 49 for the year. I was hoping to be further...

message 1295: by Ann aka Iftcan (new)

Ann aka Iftcan (iftcan) | 394 comments Well this month has started out really slowly for me. Of course, the fact that I'm having to watch the grandkids while daughter and son-in-law are in Orlando has something to do with that. And the reason they are in Orlando and not the kids? Son-in-law was sent down there for work--and when they approached him to go do this conference he told them he was already in trouble with is wife. He's scheduled to be in San Fran next week--which is her BIRTHDAY. So his company decided that they'd send her too. :o) So, I'm watching the kids and they are down there spoiling twins and--er, ok, spoiling twins--a friend lives in Orlando and she has new twins. Some people get to go down and play with them while OTHER people (pointing at self) don't get to play with babies. They have to put up with 3 teenagers.

But I do love my grandkids. The boys came over yesterday and weeded my brick terrace for me. Then we all (hubby and the 3 grands) went out to Golden Corral for dinner. Then I spent the night over at daughter's house. The oldest grandson is allergic to cats--or something in my house, so they can't stay here. The dr's say that grandson's sensitivity is a result of the chemo and radiation and surgeries he'd had (he was diagnosed with cancer 1 month before his 5th birthday.) I'm not sleeping well as a result, so I'm barely able to stay awake much less read.

But then again--I am ssooo far ahead of schedule that it's really not a prob.

message 1297: by Donnajo (new)

Donnajo If I could finish one of the started books I would be alot happier. Second time online today this morning did emails and other stuff now I just got 6 more free books from Kindle for IPod touch, also got 6 songs from itunes. Went food shopping and did a pick up from the diner for lunch. Now need to get offline and get reading.

message 1298: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca (inexplicablybookish) Greetings beloved 144 challenge friends!

Well, I'm not doing so hot. Haven't made much progress on reading in almost a month. I've been reading, just not fast enough, or finishing anything. Though my current reads ( [image error] and Mortal Engines (Mortal Engines Quartet, #1) by Philip Reeve ) are AMAZING and I love my time spent reading them. I'm primarily having exhaustion problems. Work is exhausting me (10-12 hour days, ugh) and my allergies are wreaking havoc on my system too.

Not much I can do about work stress, though things might calm down soon. I have a call into a holistic doctor to see her about my allergies/exhaustion - of course she couldn't see me for another month! But hopefully getting off of anti-histamines will help the exhaustion. At any rate, I'll get a lot more reading done if I'm not passing out for hours after work!

I am trying to add more reading time to my day, and trying not to play video games for as long during my free time too ;) I still have my eyes on the prize! I doubt I'll be hitting 144 . . . seeing as I'm at, um, 11?, right now . . . with 8 months of the year to go . . . I'd have to read something like 16-17 books a month. Eeep! I'll be super happy if I can get above 50 for the year though. That'll kick some major reading butt compared to my prior years of reading!
