How is your 144 books for 2010 going
Dru: 52? You go, girl!!!I'm starting to go downhill... but I've been sick. It took me over a week to read a 500 page book, and when it comes to Jim Butcher, it never, ever, takes me that long to read a Dresden novel. But I just finished Turn Coat, and that's only book #4 for this month, bringing my total to 33 for this year so far. And after a super start (16 in January), this sucks for me.
I think I'm staying online way too long lately so that is taking away from reading time big time. So starting tomorrow I'm cutting down. Too many games and things I'm doing on facebook.
Donnajo, I have noticed the same thing. I haven't been able to read as much because I have been spending way too much time online.
Let's stop it. I'm home this weekend so I'm going to try and do alittle catch up with fast books. It's so beautiful out today I went to the bad place. "Borders" And did some damage. Why didn't I take a walk. Which was alot safer. Also went to chili's for a late lunch that was a big disappointment.
I didn't actually believe that Grad School would eat into my "fun" reading, but it has! I have not been able to read for pleasure in a couple of weeks! Luckily there is a "Readathon" next Saturday and I plan on ingesting many books that day!

I average 500 pages a day. However, it took me 2 full days to read"Turncoat". Butcher tends to have a dense writing style where I find myself rereading sections as he packs so much material into a paragraph. Also, his books interlink so I have to stop and think to remember the history of the character. I'm not surprised that someone would take a full week to read the book even if they were feeling great.
I just finished # 18 White Oleander. I'm reading 3 books currently. I hope I will be done with them by the weekend.
Numbers 48 and 49 fell today. Three more books are in progress. I love that I'm reading May's books now.
I'm usually a pretty fast reader, but I have been stuck on The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens by Sean Covey for almost two weeks! I was sick about a week and a half ago and didn't want to read at all, but this is a record for me. Anybody who knows me well will tell you that I'm usually the first one finishing books. But I feel really behind at only 17 books finished when some of you are already meeting the target.
Wendy wrote: "I just finished book #35 today Dead Witch Walking by Kim Harrison. I am starting #36 tonight."How did you like this book...I have it on my TBR pile and wanted your opinion of it before starting in on it.
Ivy-It starts out slow (I think setting the stage for the series) but about halfway through the story picks up sepeed and ends up being quite good. I am going to read the next in the series when it comes in at the library.
I was so mad earlier gave 92 pages to a book I was reading and I almost knew who the people were and what was going to happen. I looked back this morning though past book journals and I read the book already in 2007. I can't believe I wasted time reading it. So stopped reading that one and now will move on to another one. Drats. It was a good book but why waste time rereading a book when there is so many other I can be reading. It's not often that happens. Maybe with reissues from before the book journal years. But then I don't remember the book at all it's okay.

If you are close to half way then reading a book (whether a reread or not) that you are enjoying is good and one more towards the 144 target
If it was a thin enough book I would have kept reading it but there still was much more than 1/2 to go. It just wasn't worth it. And when you know what is going to happen it's not a good read. I should have checked it when I first realized I knew someone in the book. Or at least just put it aside. But as I said when I first started it I was picking up so many books starting them and putting them back on the shelf because nothing seemed like I wanted to read it at the moment. Now I'm getting offline so I can try and get some heavy reading in the Before the storm by chamberlain book I picked out. I love her books usually so hopefully I'll be able to get in a big amount of reading done in it today.

I have many a time started a book that I have read already.
Couple of times bought them or worse bought them realised that I read them . And the worse bit didn't lik them the first time!!
I used to be worst with buying books that I have already (the problem with having so many unread books)Now since I do a book listing I'm not as bad. Well it still happens since the listing is so long it takes awhile to go though so if something sounds like I read it I write it down and put a question mark next to it and check it when I come home so I don't buy it before I know for sure. I'm at my quoto this month I think I've been to the bookstore more than 4 times already.

you have a QUOTA? Ooohh, poor Donnajo. But that's what library book sales are for, right? :o) I went to the library last weekend and they had books out for sale--I only spent $10, but I got 8 books for that money. If I can move tomorrow (arthritis is too bad to even think about driving today) then I'll probably hit it again tomorrow and see if anything is left, since tomorrow will be their "buy a bag-o-books for $1" day. I tend to pick up books if anything strikes my fancy on that day, plus if I see some that I KNOW others will like, I'll get those too. Afterwards, I have no qualms about posting them on PBS (Paperback Swap.com) and seeing about getting more books that way too. If I get too many credits from PBS, then I'll send them to my daughter, who lets the boys (my grandkids) pick out a few (dozen) books from there courtsey of Grandma.
Well I haven't checked my good reads new March shelf yet or added the last books I bought to it. So I'll post it when I do that. Too many most likely. But probably less than I would in the past. I'm trying to be good. But I was better last month. But now since I'm going to the shore this weekend I won't get to the library sale so I will not be adding to it. Now If I could only get some fast reading done get at at least 12 books this month. Spending way too much time online
I saved the link for PBS but really haven't done anything about seeing if I want to do something like that. I have a bunch that has to go two salvation army and the senior center if they wil take the ones I always gave to a neighbor at the shore's mom who had passed away earlier in the year. I said as memory to her I would give that bag of books to the senior center in my town. Then if they are willing to keep accepting them I wouldn't mind giving them some every once in awhile. They have a bookcase when you walk in their building.
Hi Donnajo.I am happy to re-read a book if it is good. Dont get me wrong if I didn't enjoy it first time round then it doesn't get a second chance, but if its good then I keep it and revisit the story at a later date. I particularly like series e.g JD Robb, Christine Feehan, LK Hamilton, etc. I will often go back to the last couple just before the next one is published so I get the continuity. If you enjoy a film you would watch it mroe than once so why not do the same with your favourite books. V
I have so many unread books that I probably wouldn't even read in a lifetime (since I keep still buying more) that I rather read something new than something I remember. There used to be a time long ago that I didn't have that many books when I was growing up and just starting to be a reader that I used to reread the same favorites all the time. Maybe that is the reason why. Who know's.
I just finished 20 & 21 last night and started on 22 and 23. I am way behind, but reading in enjoyment for me, not a chore.
Definately not a chore to me either. But I do tend to go through about one book a day. (And one at a time!)I dont watch TV, rarely go out in evenings especially in the winter and my 'kids' are grown up. Reading is my main hobby.

I'm falling a little behind this month, but am still ahead of the game at 44 completed. I hope to finish at least one more, as it is challenge book and needs to be done by the end of March. I sure hope it's good.
I'm averaging a little over a book a day. Since there were days when I got more than 1 read (shuddering at the memory of that horrible stomach bug) and days when I got none read, I think I'm doing really well, even if I "feel" like I've read fewer books this year than normal. Its been a much busier year than normal for me, so that might be why. I don't work (medical retirement) and my daughter is grown and has kids of her own now, so basically, during the day its me and the cat, doing whatever we want. Except for this year I've been doing more volunteer stuff, and taking a LOT more classes than before, which all cuts into my reading day. lol, well, its almost 12:30 so I guess I'd better head to bed, especially since I have an appointment to get my taxes done first thing tomorrow--or rather this--morning.
This has been a better month for me so far. I am reading 13 and 14 right now. I have read 5 and have started 6 and 7 for the month of March hopefully I can keep this pace up.
I just completed the Read-A-Thon and read books 80 through 83. Started reading 84 Never After this evening.
Last week, I finished #20: Liar by Justine Larbalestier. Then, thanks to the Read-a-thon yesterday, I finished #21 Sugar by Bernice L. McFadden, #22 Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by J.K. Rowling (Re-read), and #23 The Undomestic Goddess by Sophie Kinsella
I am hoping to finish one more book before the end of this month.
I am reading #40 or #41 now (must go check my list). After having such a crazy month I am surprised that I am still on track.
I fished no's 37,38,39,40,41 during the readathon and today and am on 42I am hoping to get at leat one more read by the end of the month and possible an audio as well
It was good to spend so much time reading during the Read-a-Thon. I finished 3 books and part of another and enjoyed them all. I've been reading a few books at a time as well as listening to audio books but changed during the RAT and just concentrated on one at a time. I enjoyed the books much more. Guess I won't read so many at once.
I'm glad everyone had a good reading day yesterday I'm sorry I wasn't able to check in. I did finish one book a library book this weekend so at least something got read. And read more of another book. I have 9 books read for the month so far so need to get in the 3 before the end of the month to keep the count going in ok range. I'm disappointed that I didn't finished as many as in the past months. But I still have time so maybe I'll be lucky.
I am slowly catching up after a VERY slow February... I am up to 28 books. Hopefully April is as productive as March was so that I can get back on track! :)
Just finished my 20th -for APRIL! I'll grant that only two of them were over 450 pages, but still a pretty good tally. I'm up to 51 completed for the year. Woot!

Sounds familiar. Its exhausting putting so much effort into applying and interviewing with no result. Thank God for books!
