How is your 144 books for 2010 going
Finished Catching Fire this week; the sequel to The Hunger Games, and what a sequel! But be warned that the 'ending' is really a cliffhanger - and the 3rd (and last?) book isn't due out till August!!Next up is Graceling, but for a lighter pace I'm also reading Midnight Pleasures With a Scoundrel as my read-a-book-in-bed. These are books #6 & 7 for March.
I got two books in the mail today...one was a Goodreads Giveaway book so I will have to read that one next. The other book is the next one in a series I am reading so I know I will be reading it soon but more then likely not right away.
I am sad to report my reading pace slowed down again this week. My job has been horrendously stressful, and that means no reading time during the day (as in, no breaks at work) and by the time I get home I'm so exhausted I can barely make dinner and crawl into bed, let alone stay awake to read.I've still managed to get about halfway through my latest read though and am hoping tonight/tomorrow I can get the rest of the way through. I'm also hoping to potentially squeeze in at least another short read to make up for the slow week. But if not, I'm not gonna beat myself up, because I have enough stress right now!
I'm still very much about this challenge though and still loving the experience and picking up tons of book ideas from reading posts here :)
BTW--anyone that is into the space program--and likes "true life" books, might I suggest Rocket Boys. They made the book into a movie too, called October Skies. I was a tiny baby when Sputnik was launched, but I can STILL tell you what I was doing when Apollo 11 landed. And what I was doing when both Columbia AND Challenger died. I didn't know about Apollo 13 until it was over--Armed Forces Radio was all that I had access to at that point (Dad was stationed in Greece at that point in time) and could only listen to it for 1/2 hour a day, by parental decree. But I've always been a space groupie. :o) At one point in time, I had all the vital statistics of every astronaut in the program memorized. Anyway--I found a used copy of Rocket Boys, and am drooling over it, but can't start it yet. I have too many other things on my plate right now, and I'm saving that for when I get a little time to myself.
Ann, I loved October Sky when I first watched it long ago. It was so inspiring! Definitely gave me a desire to be an astronomer or rocket scientist at one point. LOL! I haven't read the book yet, though it's on my wishlist!I finally finally finally finished book #16, and my first of this month - City of Glass! On to book #17 - Fireworks over Toccoa.
Ugh. I am so far off the pace for this year -- I will be lucky to make 50 books in 2010. "Normal" for me is 75-95 and I was hoping to beat that. Just too much stress in February...hoping March will be much better!

Thanks for the encouragement Catherine & Afsana! I know things will pick up on the reading end soon. I have just never read so little in my life!! *LOL* to be fair - a lot of my 'reading' time has been spent doing research and trying to figure out legal forms - so I am looking forward to getting back to fiction, or even entertaining non-fiction :)Welcome to the group Kat!
I have really fallen off on my reading in Feb. I didn't read hardly anything (well, comparatively speaking) and this month is also starting out slowly. I'm taking a 6 month class to make an embroidered quilt (Jenny Haskins New Quilt: Roses For Mary) and its taking a LOT Of time. Also, my daughter conn--er CONVINCED me to help her with her church group (she has the teenaged girls) and I found myself making 22 tee-shirts. How, exactly did I go from HELPING to doing the work??? Ah well, at least I'm getting SOME reading in, even if its not as much as I normally do. :o)
I've fallen off the past week. I could blame it on the move - we moved in to our first house one week ago - but I think I just pushed too hard in February. Now, when it's time to relax, I don't want to read, I just want to veg in front of some thoughtless reality TV lol

Rachel, I agreed with BJ -- a first home is a big deal. You are entitled to do whatever you feel like doing. This book challenge will be waiting for you when you return to reading. We aren't going anywhere but adding, some slowly and some rapidly, to our goals.Welcome, Kat. Looks like you are right on track with 23 books (and without the challenge!) We hope to hear more from you.
Yay, I finished my 2nd book in 2nd day. Fireworks over Toccoa. Book #17. Such a beautiful book! Oh my! Made me cry and empathize so much. It is a must-read!!
I just finished #25 last night "Malicious Intent by Kathryn Fox. I did not read it as quick as I thought. It was very slow going but I really liked the ending I did not see it coming.
Colleen, I'm glad you said Malicious Intent isn't as quick as you thought I have that book around here to read but I won't pull it out when I want fast books. I'll read that when I at least get my 12 books for the month and I have some time to play with before the following month.
Colleen wrote: "I just finished #25 last night "Malicious Intent by Kathryn Fox. I did not read it as quick as I thought. I did really like the main character and agree about the twist at the end.
Thanks everyone for the warm welcome! Happy reading
I just finished #34 Cherry Cheesecake Murder by Joanne Fluke. Not sure what I'll pick next - have to think about it for a bit.
Mine isn't going good at all. My reading time has literally been cut in half. I've gone back to my graphic arts work which keeps me in front of the computer for hours at a time. I used to be able to read a book in a day or two at the most but now it's taking me forever. I get to read maybe an hour a night now between work and DH and the dogs. I'll be lucky if I make it to half I think unless I get alot more reading time soon.
Tammy, I'm in the same boat as you, I can't seem to find time to read lately and it gets very frustrating to read only a few books a month. I am hoping to pick up the pace soon.
Jackie wrote: "Tammy, I'm in the same boat as you, I can't seem to find time to read lately and it gets very frustrating to read only a few books a month. I hope we are both able to get more reading in soon!

Tammy, if you did 5 last month you were lucky. I think I finished 4 and like you I usually read 9 or 10 a month. Maybe we should hold a pity party for ourselves to get us past this point. What do you think - LOL?

Sorry, I'm in a strange mood and just can't get into the book I'm reading- Tainted by Julie Kenner so I'm playing on GR between every chapter.

It's all good! Welcome to the party Tara! I hate when I start a book and have a hard time getting into it.

I finished #26 last night Witch and Wizard by James Patterson. I felt like I arrived at a party late and left early. Reading this book was just like reading the middle with no begining and no end.
Colleen wrote: "I finished #26 last night Witch and Wizard by James Patterson. I felt like I arrived at a party late and left early. Definitely lacking clear exposition or resolution!
I just finished #17. I am hoping that I will be able to catch up a little bit next week because it will be spring break from both teaching and grad school. I will be at a reading conference, but I hope to get some reading done while I am there! But, the chances of getting 19 books read by the end of March so that I am back on track are pretty slim!!
I started out strong in January (like I knew I would) with 18 books. But then I only did 7 in February, and so far 3 in March. So that brings me to 8 books I need to read by the end of March to put me back on track. Whew!
For some reason I am having all kinds of trouble getting into the book I am currently reading...it is a good book it just doesn't seem to be pulling me in to the point that I don't want to put it down. It is the first book of a new series by Carolyn Hart so maybe that is the problem...trying to keep all the characters straight...I have no idea but am not ready to give up on it yet...
I didn't get to read last night that's the problem with turning the tv on too early. My eyes have been bothering the last few days with the weather change. Even though I finally got into NP the book I was reading and I'm half way though I just can't get to pick it up to finish and I know once I do that I will go fast and I'll have another book finished. Plus I've been online too much so that takes away reading time.
I'm having a similar problem to Ivy. The book I'm reading is good, but I just can't seem to get in to it, but not enough for me to put it aside. It's like I just want the story to move faster or something.
I was thinking that maybe it is because it is the first book of the series and so there is alot of descriptions of the characters and that sometimes makes a story drag.
I've finished 38, and now have two audio books and a paperback going. I'm hoping to pick up a little more speed after my tax appointment tomorrow. Even though I am enjoying the challenge, I'm having great fun being motivated to do the thing I really love.
Ivy, I enjoy Carolyn Hart, especially her Mystery on Demand series. I have 'Ghost at Work' on reserve at the library but my name hasn't come up yet. I hope you enjoy it.
I agree that I am having a difficult time getting into the book I am currently reading. I am sure it is a good book, I think I am just extra tired because I just got over the flu. Hopefully I will have a lot more luck this weekend!! :)
