How is your 144 books for 2010 going
I am pleased to announce I just finished book #5! Which is nothing compared to some I realize, but I have never read so many books in two months time! Actually, I take that back, I may have read this much when I was younger, but certainly not since at least college days for me (which started back in 2000). I had so much school reading to do I never got to read for pleasure like this! It's been a treat to get to experience reading in this way again. Of course, my Kindle is over-flowing with samples now from seeing I can read "quickly" and oohhh the possibilities of what I can read now! :)
I shall be starting book #6 -
- tomorrow/today. This will be my 3rd vampire related book this month and I may be getting a bit vampired out - we'll see. But I made a TBR list and am trying to stick to it and this book was next. Wee! I'm just so excited I've gotten so much reading done the past month or so. I almost feel hopeful I can catch up to the milestones needed for 144 and maybe even make the goal this year!

Wow, I'd love to have a whole room for books!!! Unfortunately my kids are still occupying them. Maybe someday....LOL.

LOL Vanessa, I can hardly believe it myself when I started on my room, matter of fact I never read that much until my kids moved out, now I read all the time.

That is awsome Lisa.

I finished #49, When You Reach Me. All my library holds came in at once, and the rest of them are all big fat books. I'm falling behind! I already paid $20 in library fines this month!
So I have to admit I'm kind of bored of my current choice for read. And that has spelled disaster for my read speed. So I'm going to sample a few others and see if something catches my interest most. I think I am just wiped out on vampire stories for right now! I'm really hoping to get at least one more book read this month. Even though I'll still be horribly behind . . . I'll be beating myself for reading from last year though! :)
Rebecca try going to another book. I find lately that is what I do. I'll read 100 pages in the book, then switch to another one, read 100 then go back and forth. This way I read something I like and get through the one I don't like. Although if it is really bad I will just give the book up.
Darcy wrote: "Rebecca try going to another book. I find lately that is what I do. I'll read 100 pages in the book, then switch to another one, read 100 then go back and forth. This way I read something I like..."Hi Darcy!
I try very very very hard not to give up totally on books. I really haven't gotten very far into my current one, but I can just tell already I'm not in the mood for the writing style/topic. So I'm definitely going to start a few other books I've been itching to read and see which keeps my attention best :)
The only bad thing about this is that I find reading multiple books at one time I never seem to finish any of them. But we'll see!
I find if I force myself to read in 100 page increments and then keep going back and forth it works for me.
Darcy wrote: "I find if I force myself to read in 100 page increments and then keep going back and forth it works for me."That's a good idea. I've actually found lately I can get through 100 pages pretty fast, and if I have a smaller goal than "Finish the entire book", it makes it easier to read through a boring part too. Of course, figuring out 100 pages on my Kindle is a bit more difficult . . . I think for the text size I use that's about 1000-ish "locations". So, totally do-able for both eReading and paper books! :)
I do pretty much the same thing, although in smaller increments and sometimes with more than 2 books at a time.
I finished 26 and am almost done with #27. The last few days, I've picked up a couple books and they're not really grabbing me right away, although I think it's because my speed and enjoyment are hindered by the fact that I've been devoting a lot of time to my taxes. Ugh!!
I can't believe how fast some of you are reading!!! I'm barely going to make it to 24 books by the end of February... but that's mostly because the month ends on a weekend! I'm just happy to meet the minimum requirements. :)
I hear ya, Jen! I just made it to 24 yesterday but only because I read a majority of YA Lit or short audiobooks during February! lol
I just finished #25 Once in a Blue Moon so I feel as if I am on target. I did abandon The Screwtape Letters about half way through so won't be counting that one!
Finished #15 The Host by Stephenie Meyer and #16 Birthday Vicious The Ashleys 3 working on #17 Tricks by Ellen HopkinsI feel a little behind with everyone finishing their 20-30th book. I have some catching up to do.
Pat wrote: "I just finished #25 Once in a Blue Moon so I feel as if I am on target. I love that book.... really I love anything by CS Lewis but that one I found particularly interesting.
For anyone feeling bad about only being at 24 . . . just look at me! I'm at . . . 5 ;) I'm hoping to finish #6 this weekend. Now, granted, I don't think I found this group till a week or two into January. And I didn't get into my reading stride till a week or two ago. Still, I have a lot of catching up to do!24 is awesome! You should all be proud!

We thought we were the readers...haha...are we ever surprised!

I'm at 16 for the year, so I'm 8 behind where I wanted to be by the end of February. I wonder if I can catch up!!
Today is the day I will finish two books I'm reading or else. I have 30 some pages in the Janzen book and the book on the ipod I have maybe 6 chapters I think. I think I might go for the ipod book first since I know the other one will go faster if I stick with it or maybe an hour. then it's time for a beach read with all this snow we are getting if I can't see the snow at least I can read about it.
I am having a bad month am on my 5th and 6th for this month but luckily read 16 books last month so only 2 off target for what I should be at the end of the 2nd month of the year as long as I finish both. ( inknow I will finish 1 definatly)
I slowed down from averaging 5 a week in January to 2 a week in February, but I'm still where I want to be. I don't want to be reading them so fast that I don't enjoy them! Plus I tackled some longer books this month--Wolf Hall and Sarum: The Novel of England (which I am slowly abandoning, sadly). I am really looking forward to viewing my (and everyone else's) list at the end of the year!
After a slow and bit of a boring start to my current book, I decided to give it another chapter or so before I switched to something new, but it actually picked up and got more interesting and I'm really enjoying it now! I'm glad I gave it a bit more reading before I put it aside!Hoping to finish it this weekend and maybe squeeze in one other short book to bring my grand total to 7 books for the year, and a whopping (for me!) 6 books for February.
I'm still working on finding ways to read more, and not letting myself get so distracted by things like TV and GoodReads ;) and am hoping to read at least 10 books for March. I may be a bit sneaky and read some super short books I have sitting around. They're legit novels I've wanted to read! They just happen to be brief.
I have to say though, I am so glad I've found this group and joined this challenge as it really has renewed my interest in reading more and inspired me to find creative ways of squeezing more pages into my day and not engage in mindless type activities so much (like watching reruns of Law & Order for the millionth time ;) ).
Wow! You folks are SOO ahead! I'm just at 15, 9 short of where I should be in 2 days. If only I didn't have the 100+ distractions around me! Uff!
Don't worry! I am only on 12!! I hit a rut. I am reading Nineteen Minutes by Jodi Picoult and though I love Jodi Picoult and it isn't a bad book, I am having a hard time getting into a good reading pace. I hope that tonight or tomorrow I will be able to get into it more and possibly finish it. It has completely thrown off my pace for this challenge! :(
Julie wrote: "Don't worry! I am only on 12!! I hit a rut. I loved it on audio, had a hard time stopping most of the time.
I have a Jodi Picoult on audio too. I haven't started it yet, and it's from the library, so hopefully I can get it done before it's due back.
Listening to Jodi Picoult on audio sounds like a good idea. I can't much stand her books. They all go along the same vein of loss and tragedy and almost similar characters, I like the idea of listening to it.

I will probably check out some of her others this way now.
Just started Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln. It's good so far, but 944 pages!
Cindy, I loooved that book!! It actually reads pretty fast, at least it did for me. I learned so much, but it was really interesting!
halfway through 15.. although this book had over 1500 pages and the last 2 had over a thousand each as well.
Kelly wrote: "halfway through 15.. although this book had over 1500 pages and the last 2 had over a thousand each as well."I am impressed
Rebecca wrote: "After a slow and bit of a boring start to my current book, I decided to give it another chapter or so before I switched to something new, but it actually picked up and got more interesting and I'm ..."yes thats whats happened to me this month- been having a reading hiatus and not been in the mood to read anfd instead been watching dvds instead
I slowed way down this month--but I've had too many other things going on to be able to read a lot. I did get in 12 books--but for me, that's like practically nothing. I have to get a quilt finished and into the mail before Monday--then I have to get another one (heirloom embroidered quilt) caught up for this month (before the 20th of March) and do the OTHER homework for this quilt (its a class I'm taking) Then I have to get back to work on the quilt I've been working on for my bed. I have 3 more blocks to finish off, then the quilting. And I got the flu--and when I get sick (except for stomach bugs) I kind of hibernate. So for 4 days, I think I was awake for a grand total of 12 hours total for all 4 days.Well, gotta stop putting off working and get back to doing all the stuff I still have to get done.

I know how you feel Magpie67. I do have one room dedicated to nothing but shelves with books on them now that my kids have grown up and are out of the house. Matter of fact thats the first thing I did when they all moved out and got on their own and that was to turn a room into a library/office. I'm not done with it yet but hope to decorate it soon with a rocker or some kind of lounge chair and a great lamp. I have 6 book shelves now but have plenty of room for about 10 more so hopefully it won't take me too long to buy more shelves and put some furniture in. However, everytime I think I will do it, I spend all my money on buying more books. I'm having a hard time keeping up with my wish list - LOL
