Catherine I've read/listened to 15 so far. Reading two and have two audio books going. One of the audio books is almost done. Hopefully I'll stay on track for February. For now I'm just shooting for 12/month. Hopefully I'll have a good month at some point to give myself a cushion.

Jim son of Jim (formerly PhotoJim) (jim_formerly_photojim) | 158 comments 7th of Feb is done and #20 for the year. Two more are started and will be done in the next couple of days. Working my way through the Black Dagger Brotherhood series.

message 803: by Jamie (last edited Feb 11, 2010 08:15AM) (new)

Jamie I'm not doing so well thus far. I read 9 in January and I'm only on my 2nd book for February. Turns out we've been much busier than I'd expected and illness has taken a toll on my progress, as well. It would be nice if I could manage a book a day in order to catch up, but I somehow don't see that happening. : (

message 804: by Catherine (new)

Catherine Jamie, don't beat yourself up about your numbers. You could improve later in the year, but even if you don't, it's really not about the number ... it's about reading more and also keeping track of your reading!

message 805: by Vanessa (new)

Vanessa (vanessamc) Jamie,

I'm not during that great either, especially compared to last month. I have to do my mother-in-law's taxes as well as my own, and it's eating up a lot of time. It's a bit of a let-down, but life happens and other months will be better.

message 806: by Kelly (new)

Kelly Jamie, I'm right there with you on the number read so far. I just finished my 12th. So I figure I'm only about 11 days behind target lol. It's all for fun, so just enjoy what you read and give yourself a pat on the back for every book that you finish. :)

message 807: by Jamie (new)

Jamie You all are right. I'm glad I'm reading more than usual and I'm enjoying the books I'm reading (well...for the most part, anyway!). This plan would backfire tremendously if I started to view reading as a chore. I just hate it when I can't accomplish a goal I've set for myself! Oh well, I'm sure things will slow down in May and throughout the summer. I'll just do what I can now and maybe work on catching up then.

message 808: by Catherine (new)

Catherine I have felt that way too a few times ... focusing on the goal and reading started to feel like a chore, and I definitely don't want that! So I'm finding some smaller books to read so I can feel like I accomplished something, and then focus on a longer book at the same time but take my time reading it.

message 809: by Lisa S (new)

Lisa S (kasey_k_fan) I'll be finishing #28 tonight.

message 810: by Luce-Virlynn (new)

Luce-Virlynn | 45 comments I've only read 12 books total books this year and am probably going to finish my 13th this weekend.

message 811: by Donnajo (new)

Donnajo I finally finished the first library book The beginning of the danielle Steel book Southern lights didn't grab me right away but today I ended up reading 1/2 the book and finishing my sister dropped off the Patterson Alex Cross trial and picked up the Steel book so she can read it. She said I might not like this one but I started it already so hopefully it will go fast. Also started a FBI coulter book Blind Side before she stopped here. But I'll read the Patterson one first so it can get back to the library. Hopefully I'll be able to zip though it. So 7 books this month so far and 24 for the year.

message 812: by Tara (new)

Tara | 47 comments I should finish # 34 tonight. I'm hoping to get ahead of the game now so when the summer comes I can slack off a little! :)

message 813: by Gina (new)

Gina (ginrobi) | 84 comments I'm still on a roll, woohoo! I've read 22, and I'm halfway through 23.

22 down, 122 to go.

message 814: by Holly (new)

Holly (velvetsun) | 7 comments I'll be finishing up book 21 tonight. :) Woo hoo!

message 815: by Lisa S (new)

Lisa S (kasey_k_fan) Just finished #28. Started #29 Dead Witch Walking

message 816: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca (inexplicablybookish) I just finished Book #2 today. Go me! ;) I know it's nothing compared to some, but I managed to read a 373 page book in less than two weeks. Thats a huge deal for me. I haven't read a book that fast in ages. And I'm hoping to keep the speed going (as in, making more reading time like I have been) and catch up and get to 144 by the end of the year. But if not, I'm still super happy. I love the fact I'm getting through books faster. Even though I didn't want my last book to end ;) And I've only gotten through 2. I like where I am heading!

message 817: by Catherine (new)

Catherine Rebecca, that is SO great. 373 pages in two weeks is impressive!! Congrats!

message 818: by Jackie (new)

Jackie Lane (jaxlane) | 126 comments I have finished 11 and currently have 4 books going, so hopefully by Saturday I will finish books 12, 13, 14 and 15.

I seriously doubt I'll finish 144 books for the year, but whatever I do finish, I'll feel a sense of accomplishment.

message 819: by Gina (new)

Gina (ginrobi) | 84 comments Finished At Grave's End last night. OMG, this is a series you cannot miss, if you're into paranormal!

23 down, 121 to go!

message 820: by Donnajo (new)

Donnajo I had to pick up another reserve at the library today. So have to get moving on Alex Cross's Trial so I can start Bravo Valentine. The library call is automated and the thing didn't leave a message the only way I realized it called was caller id when I had to check it today for a number.

I went to the library today and picked up a book I had on reserve and also grabbed another while I was there.

Barbara ★ I have finished book 32 Hands Of Flame, 33 Sunset Express, 34 Must Love Hellhounds and 35 Glass Houses.

I'm starting #36 5 Bodies To Die For.

message 823: by Gina (new)

Gina (ginrobi) | 84 comments Barbara, what did you think of Must Love Hellhounds?

message 824: by Barbara ★ (new)

Barbara ★ I enjoyed the short stories though I think they could have been made into real novels and been much better.

here's my review (I think):

message 825: by Ronda (new)

Ronda Tutt (rondatutt) So far I have read 21 books for the year. I just finished Shades of Midnight by Lara Adrian and absolutely loved it.

message 826: by Wendy (new)

Wendy (wldinnis) I love the Midnight Breed series. I need to read the last two.

message 827: by Connie (new)

Connie (grundig) | 57 comments I've finished 15 books so far this year. I have finished 5 so far in Feb. Started my 16th(6th) this morning.

Ronda Tutt (rondatutt) Wendy wrote: "I love the Midnight Breed series. I need to read the last two."

Hi Wendy, Looks like the Midnight Breed series continues on in Lara Adrians next book called "Taken by Midnight". I don't know when it will be released but I am so looking forward to it coming out.

message 829: by Nita (new)

Nita (gillnit) I am currently reading my 24th book of the year, First Drop of Crimson (Night Huntress World, #1) by Jeaniene Frost . Jeanine Frost is one of my favorite authors.

message 830: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca (inexplicablybookish) Okay, I am so proud of myself and had to brag - I just read a book in about 2-3 days! Okay so it was under 200 pages, but still! I did it! And I didn't feel like I was skimming and missing things either. It's given me confidence I may be able to read more books this year than I thought.

I'm now done with #3 of 144 ;)

message 831: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca (inexplicablybookish) Catherine wrote: "Rebecca, that is SO great. 373 pages in two weeks is impressive!! Congrats!"

Thank you for the encouragement Catherine! I'm one of those types who does too many things at once, and is easily distracted, so buckling down and reading "quickly" is a challenge for me and something I've been wanting to work on for a while. I feel like I'm making some good progress and I'm all excited!

message 832: by Jackie (new)

Jackie Lane (jaxlane) | 126 comments I am in a reading rut and have barely been reading at all.

message 833: by Catherine (new)

Catherine Rebecca, I have trouble getting longer books read, unless it is something I really get into and can't put down. My count has increased since I decided to read a few shorter, fun books and also do audio books in my car. I'm "mixing it up" and having a lot of fun with it! As long as you're enjoying yourself, that's the important thing!! Keep it up girl!

message 834: by Catherine (new)

Catherine Jackie, I had the same problem at the end of January. I had planned to read a LOT more in January and ended up just barely making my goal. I think a lot of us will have good months and "bad" months ... for me, work and life in general get in the way of my reading a lot, LOL! Just remember that it's only the second month of the year.

message 835: by Ann aka Iftcan (new)

Ann aka Iftcan (iftcan) | 394 comments Feb. 2010

51 Caressed by Ice by Nalini Singh
52 Frisco's Kid by Suzanne Brockmann
53 Night Life by Caitlin Kittredge
54 The Eagle and the Nightingales by Mercedes Lackey
55 The Cinderella Deal by Jennifer Crusie
56 Ladies Prefer Rogues by Janet Chapman, Sandra Hill et. Al.

Sigh, my computer has been up and down. So hadn't been keeping good track of my reads for this month.

Ladies Prefer Rogues has 4 short stories in it--they all deal with time travel of one sort or another--2 are good, 1 is ok, and the last is yawn city.

The Cinderella Deal I picked up at the grocery store because it was by Jennifer Crusie. This was one of her typical light, breezy and amusing stories. A good quick read, with plenty of weird actions by the 2 main characters.

message 836: by Wendy (new)

Wendy (wldinnis) I just finished #21 last night. It was Julia's Chocolates which I loved! It took me a little longer to read this book but it was worth it. Next up is #22 Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins.

Jim son of Jim (formerly PhotoJim) (jim_formerly_photojim) | 158 comments Ann, I'm sure I'll read the Crusie as she's a central Ohio author (where I live) and I always enjoy reading about places I've been.

I've finished my 10th of the month (23rd of the year) and have three more underway. Trying to finish the last of the Sleeping Beauty books, almost done with the newest Victoria Dahl, and just started my next BDB book (Lover Unbound) this morning.

message 838: by Roseann (new)

Roseann | 185 comments After 2 1/2 weeks of Mono (not good as an adult) I am up to 29 books.

message 839: by Donnajo (new)

Donnajo I was reading the Patterson Alex cross Trial. It was good but I knew I had to get though the Brava Valentine. So started that one last night and I have less than 40 pages to read to finish. I have to have it finished for the morning since my sister knows I'm close to finishing and she's picking it up in the morning on the way to my niece's so she has it to read when she's ready. So at least I'll finish the one tonight. By the way Happy Valentine's day everyone. I went out for lunch today with my sister & BIL But I read all morning until then. My goal is get finish the one book which will not take long at all then get back to the Patterson book and finish that one tomorrow. Then I can get back to my own books until the other reserves from the library come in.

Ronda Tutt (rondatutt) Donnajo wrote: "I was reading the Patterson Alex cross Trial. ..."

Hi Donnajo, I am reading one of James Pattersons book right now called Witch and Wizard and it is pretty good so far. By the way, Happy Valentines to you too and to everyone else too. Hope you all had a great day. happy reading everyone

message 841: by Kelly (new)

Kelly Finishing up my 13th in a few minutes, just a few pages left. A Cold Dark Place by Gregg Olsen. It's VERY good!

message 842: by Jordan (new)

Jordan (jordieheartsbooks) | 37 comments I barely made 12 for Jan and feel I'm quite behind for Feb, but I'm glad I took on the challenge. It's making me read all those books on my to-be-read bookshelf next to my bed. Now, if I could just stop buying more books...

message 843: by Tonya (new)

Tonya I just noticed this thread (where the heck have I been)...lol. I have been doing pretty good with my reading goals so far. I have read 20 books as of today, not to bad. Some of you are kicking butt, that is awesome.

message 844: by Lisa S (new)

Lisa S (kasey_k_fan) I'm about 2/3 into Eyes Of Prey #30.

message 845: by Tara (new)

Tara | 47 comments I'm reading the 4th book from the House of Night series, Untamed. It's my book #37 for the year. (Last year it was June before I read book 37, and still managed to get through 150 books, so I feel good about things, at least for now)

Anyway, I really liked Marked and so great potential for this series but it seems as the books go on, I'm falling out of love with them... which is too bad. It has happened a with another series this year as well which is just too bad.

Congrats on 37 books. I was wondering how you felt the HON series. I also read Marked and liked it, but heard that it goes a bit downhill from there. Would you still recommend the series?

message 847: by Tara (last edited Feb 14, 2010 09:39PM) (new)

Tara | 47 comments Thanks! I'm about halfway through Untamed and as a whole series I'm feeling a little... Meh, about things. But since I've already read 3.5 books and there are currently only 2 more, which are waiting to be picked up at my library on Tuesday, I will likely finish the series.

I'd say during books 2 and 3 I found myself more annoyed at Zoey and with the overall flatness of the characters. Like I could overlook it in a first book in a series, but by the 3rd I wanted there to be a little more from them. I'll get back to you after I finish and let you know exactly, but as of right now I'm really undecided. Maybe I'm just an optimist hoping it will get better.

message 848: by Julie (new)

Julie | 171 comments This challenge is very exciting to me because it is helping me to jump out of my comfort zone and read more books!! I love to read, but I typically stick to a couple authors and don't stray far from them. Thanks for all the great recommendations for books!!
