I liked Evidence but the dynamic duo is getting a little old. It seems like there is a sameness to the dialogue.

message 706: by Connie (new)

Connie (grundig) | 57 comments I finished only 10 books for January. It would have been 11 but I got sick. It's hard to read when you're in bed asleep to get over a cold.
So I will count the 1 book for February.

message 707: by Vicky (new)

Vicky (ladyvictoria5) | 98 comments

17 - Mystical Travelers by Sylvia Browne
18 - Jane and the Stillroom Maid by Stephanie Barron

message 708: by Jackie (new)

Jackie Lane (jaxlane) | 126 comments I was only able to finish 8 books and I am more than halfway through 2 other books. I will just try to get caught up in February. If I don't I'll just do the best I can to make the 144 by the end of the year.

message 709: by Ann aka Iftcan (new)

Ann aka Iftcan (iftcan) | 394 comments Er--ok, I admit--I was sick for a few days this month, but it was the stomach thing that was going around, so I didn't get to sleep--just lived in the bathroom. So I got a LOT of books read then. (Hey, 2 hours sleep in 3 days means you can read a LOT.) The last couple of days I've barely made 1 book a day because hubby is home sick, and I've had to do a lot of things that I don't normally do.

message 710: by Tara (new)

Tara | 59 comments I am so impressed by everyone! I finished 13 books in Jan and thought I was really ahead of the game! My problem is that I love to start 4-5 books and I have trouble finishing them because I don't want the story to end. I also tend to take out 5-8 books at a time from the library and can never decide which one to start so I just read a chapter of each in rotation. I need to focus on reading one at a time.

Also I love the post earlier I was worried about Feb being short but it is only 2 days! Good Luck everyone!!!!

message 711: by Becky (last edited Feb 01, 2010 02:02PM) (new)

Becky Cleveland (beckycleveland) I read 5 books in January - 2 were rereads and quick. I don't have much time and seemed to have a hard time getting started. I teach and have a hubbie, 3 kids, chauffer duty, laundry duty, etc.! HOWEVER, instead of feeling guilty because I didn't stick to 12 in January, i decided I did great, because I read books I enjoyed, still got my laundry done, and cooked meals :) - And in the summer when I'm not teaching and am hanging out at swim meets, I can make up for not making 12 during school months. good plan in my opinion. I haven't really kept track so i love this - every time I finish a book, i post it and have a feeling of accomplishment. Maybe i should write down everything I do - LOL!

my books this month were
Shadow Prey - John Sandford
More than a Mistress - Mary Balogh
A Summer to Remember - Mary Balogh
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone - JK Rowling
Fired Up - Jayne Ann Krentz

message 712: by Barbara ★ (new)

Barbara ★ A good start - 23 books in January. Only 121 to go!

message 713: by Kellyyyylynne (new)

Kellyyyylynne I think I made it through 8 in January. Not too bad. Trying not to focus on the 144 number and just see how many books I can read in one year. The whole work thing really keeps getting my way though!

message 714: by Catherine (new)

Catherine I started strong in January but then ended up just barely making my goal of 12 books. The good news is I'm half done with one book already for February and more than half done with an audiobook too. I know I'll be making a few car trips in February (if the weather doesn't interfere) so I'll probably have at least 2 more audiobooks, maybe more.

message 715: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (sunnytat462) I am at a point where I know I it will be no problem to hit the goal, and now I am going to see how many I can read.

message 716: by LynnB (new)

LynnB I read 20 in January before the 25th, but then got zero done after that. At least I'm still ahead of the curve at this point. With February being short and a few good sized (900+ page) books to read on my list, I'm sure my numbers will come down! Glad I got a good start.

message 717: by Donnajo (new)

Donnajo I was worried yesterday but it turned out I read alittle of each book then ended up with the hc that I've been trying to push though and last night I finally did finish it so it turned out I did get the first book done for the month when I was thinking it was impossible. Once I got into the book even though I kept looking to see how much I had left I kept saying keep going finish it. Now I still have the other books going and one I started yesterday but I'm going to start another Danielle steel that been around for awhile maybe today. Haven't decided yet.

message 718: by Maggie (new)

Maggie C. | 4 comments Hi, tried to post a reply to the where do you get your books thread, but was not able to for some reason. I think for anyone who truly loves to read, all sources are fair game. I should try to get back to using the library more as a good example for my kids. Audio books are great for me as I commute via train to NYC and they make the trip a welcome journey.

message 719: by Ann aka Iftcan (new)

Ann aka Iftcan (iftcan) | 394 comments I just finished by first book for Feb. It was The Eagle & the Nightingales. I recently got interested in Mercedes Lackey again, and found that I hadn't read one of her series. I read the first 2 in this series in Jan, but THIS one is my fav of the series so far. I only have 1 more to go, and am waiting on it to arrive from Paperbackswap.com. I don't think I'll get as much reading done this month as I did in jan--but that's partly because I have a couple of classes this month, plus the start of the hard work for one of them. (They are quilting classes, not "school" type classes.) I'm making a machine embroidered heirloom quilt, and its going to take a LOT of work. Plus--I'm hoping to NOT get that stomach bug again, which kept me pretty much glued to the bathroom for a couple of days, which let me read a LOT of books.

Jennifer (jnhart) Halfway through #14 - The Host by Stephenie Meyer It's really good so far

message 721: by Alix (new)

Alix (goaskalix) Halfway through 12 (Outlander killed me with slowness) and I'm now reading Dragonfly in Amber, which I guess will take just as long ;)

message 722: by Kelly (new)

Kelly I'm currently on my 10th and 11th for the year. Didn't quite make 12 for January!

message 723: by alicia (new)

alicia grant (shesha556) I only read 4 for January. Started 5 and 6 at the end of the month and am still working on them.

I'm in the same boat but I'm enjoying the books I'm currently reading so I'm not gonna beat myself up too much.

message 725: by Gina (new)

Gina (ginrobi) | 84 comments I've read 18 since January 1st. 16 in January, and 2 so far this month.

message 726: by Maria (new)

Maria (minks05) | 95 comments i've gotten through 8, which isn't too bad. hopefully i can pick up some quick reads this month.

i have started training to run a half-marathon, so my night time reading is going to be reduced a bit, but only until the beginning of May, then i'll be back to free(r) evenings.

Me too. I only managed 5, but I've read a couple that have been sitting on my bookshelves for years, so I'm happy! :)

message 728: by Susan (new)

Susan (superbookfreak) | 115 comments I read 6 in January and finished 7 & 8 last night. I'm going on to book 9 and waiting on book 10 for a pen pal read.

Jim son of Jim (formerly PhotoJim) (jim_formerly_photojim) | 158 comments Three done in February already! I'm feeling pretty good about this month. Ended up one ahead of the pace in January as well.

message 730: by Donnajo (last edited Feb 04, 2010 05:49AM) (new)

Donnajo 3 books for the month and 20 for the year so far. I'm thinking Borders today after my eye appt depending on how my eyes are feeling. Usually afterwards my eyes aren't the best but we will see. Also if it's icy I'm coming straight home today. They news didn't say anything but looking outisde I see icy spots. I have to buy some girl's board books for a gift so I have a reason besides myself.

Jim son of Jim (formerly PhotoJim) (jim_formerly_photojim) | 158 comments Donnajo, one never needs a reason besides oneself to visit a bookstore. (it works better if you say it in a Yoda voice)

message 732: by Catherine (new)

Catherine Jim, I think Yoda would say, "A reason to visit a bookstore one does not need."

Jim son of Jim (formerly PhotoJim) (jim_formerly_photojim) | 158 comments You are right. Much better yours is.

message 734: by Erin L (new)

Erin L (wellreadmoose) I'm at 6, but I started late. Working hard at catching up.

message 735: by Anne (new)

Anne (annecurrin) | 26 comments I read 8 books in January. Which is pretty good for me, since the past couple of years, I read zilch in January!

message 736: by Afsana (new)

Afsana (afsanaz) then we have all done better then we initially expected

I am having aslow month- finished one and and m reading 2nd and listening to thrid

message 737: by Lisa S (new)

Lisa S (kasey_k_fan) I'm on # 24, In the Woods, but not really feeling it. I don't know if it's the book or I'm in a slump. I'm also sick with the flu so that could be it.

message 738: by Afsana (new)

Afsana (afsanaz) you have already covered 2 months so if you are feeling unwell then break won't be a bad thing and if you are having a slump -then a break won't be a bad thing. take few days off , feel better and see what book strikes your fancy

message 739: by Melissa (new)

Melissa (mblisa) | 92 comments I finished 3 in January..and started 3 more ~ so, I hope to finish those up in February, plus I have a Pen Pal book to start on February 8th, and a Group Read to start tomorrow...
Lovin all the reading time! :)

message 740: by Jackie (new)

Jackie Lane (jaxlane) | 126 comments I should finish up books #10 and #11 today or tonight. Then I will start on #12 & #13. I need to read a little fastser if I want to make my 144, but February should be a good month because I'll be away for a few days and hopefully will get some extra reading time in.

message 741: by Kelly (new)

Kelly Lisa wrote: "I'm on # 24, In the Woods, but not really feeling it. I don't know if it's the book or I'm in a slump. I'm also sick with the flu so that could be it."

Lisa, I think I remember someone saying somewhere that they weren't feeling In the Woods either at first, that it was kind of lagging or something, but they pushed through and were really glad that they did. I can't remember what thread that was on. I own a copy of it, so I'll eventually be trying to read it as well.

message 742: by Donnajo (new)

Donnajo Was on the way home from eye dr with sunglasses (eyes dilated) decided to get off highway and not go to Borders once I did that I ended up deciding I was going to Borders after all. Bought 4 baby books for the future niece and 7 books for Aunt Donna (one of which was free which I didn't realize plus had $5.00 border whatever they call so used that too so did pretty good)

message 743: by Catherine (new)

Catherine Lisa wrote: "I'm on # 24, In the Woods, but not really feeling it. I don't know if it's the book or I'm in a slump. I'm also sick with the flu so that could be it."

Lisa, I really liked "In the Woods". Maybe set it aside and pick it up again in a week or so, or just keep going and maybe it will get better?! I found it compelling, but I know everyone has different tastes.

message 744: by Lisa S (new)

Lisa S (kasey_k_fan) Catherine, It is due back to the library Sat. with holds so I'll have to finish it this week. I'm on page 170 and still not that into it but I'm gonna keep on keeping on.

message 745: by Donnajo (new)

Donnajo I tried my copy once last year and was reading it with other books I had a hard time but wasn't into it far. And my online friends who alot have read In the Woods and enjoyed it said you really need to read only that book and give it time. So I put it aside since I wasn't that far into it. And it's on my Determination list this year.

message 746: by Catherine (new)

Catherine Lisa wrote: "Catherine, It is due back to the library Sat. with holds so I'll have to finish it this week. I'm on page 170 and still not that into it but I'm gonna keep on keeping on."

Lisa, I hope it gets better for you. No one will judge you if you want to give up on it!!

message 747: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jnhart) 14 down! Reading The Princess Bride and Death Masks right now

message 748: by Ann aka Iftcan (new)

Ann aka Iftcan (iftcan) | 394 comments Well, this month is being slow--but since I'm well ahead on my books I'm not sweating it. I have a lot of other things on my plate this month. I should be working on some of them now, instead of sitting at the computer reading all my GR groups messages. :oP But hey--I figure if I want to spent a couple hours doing this, then I'm going to, right?

Right now we are waiting to see IF/WHEN the horrid snow they have been predicting for us for the last 3 days is going to arrive. Or if its going to be freezing rain/sleet instead of snow. Of the 2--I'd prefer the 2 feet of snow, ya know?

message 749: by Catherine (new)

Catherine We're getting snow here in Illinois right now, but it's only supposed to be 1-3 inches. We did have some ice underneath, which makes driving interesting. I'm really glad we aren't getting 2 feet though! Ann, you might be getting some reading done if you're stuck in your house!!

message 750: by Cat (new)

Cat (shynet5025) | 31 comments We are due to get a blizzard here in S. Jersey so I think I can fit in a couple of books this weekend. I am just going to see how many books I can read this year.
