I will set a book aside if it doesn't grab me. I set it aside with the thought that I'll try it again later.
Great Job Ladies... I'm almost half way done with book 10. Which is amazing for me!!
Last night on Treasures of the Trust on National Geography they did the show on The Vyne--a home that was very close to where Jane Austen grew up. They said that there was at least a chance that the family there at least in part inspired Mansfield Park, since the rich, childless couple took in a young, poor cousin--who, on the whole supposedly had a very sad childhood while growing up there.

I finished #11 yesterday and numbers 12, 13 and 14 are in progress, but I have lots of time at the moment and not everyone does.
Wow, I finished my 6th book for the month and it looks like I may get 3 more books in before the end of the month. I will be short of my goal for 12 books in the month but I hope that next month I will find faster reads. Some books are just slow to start but once you get to the 3rd chapter everything starts getting interesting. I love reading everyones comments and what they have read. You are all inspiring to me.
Kelly, I used to play on Slingo.com and I think it might be on POGO but not real sure. I bought a cd with this game on it so I don't have to play online anymore.
I am well on my way to exceed this challenge, but having fun. Right now I am reading Shutter Island for a book club, On the Prowl, and Fool Moon on audio.

I feel the same. I find new books to add to my TBR and I find myself reading more to try and reach the goal. It is nice to have "backup" to say well done when you finish a book. =)

Regardless of what your number is right now, we're all doing great!! I like to think of us as a team!!! LOL
Catherine wrote: Darcy, hope you like Shutter Island. It's one of my all-time favorite books. I am about 100 pages in right now. I find it to be a slow start and not one that I can read at one sitting. My in person book club picked it as a selection as the organizer was contacted by Paramount, who are the ones behind the movie that comes out in February. If we picked this one for our choice they would provide free tickets to the movie. We were all fine with that. This month we read The Lovely Bones and got free movie tickets, a bunch of books, and a $100 gift certificate to a restaurant to discuss the differences between them. We are not sure if we will get the books or gift certificate this time around, but just getting movie tickets is great!!
Um Darcy--how are you getting all this loot for your book club?? MY old book club got zip (except for the snacks that we all brought).
I am not sure how they are getting this. The book club is through Meet Up. The organizer was contacted and then she puts the vote out to us. But come on, who is going to turn down free movie tickets. When she was first approached they didn't tell her anything about getting books or the gift certificate. I think it might me a right place right time kind of thing. One I am happy to benefit from.

My favorite gift to receive is movie passes. Luckily I am able to buy passes at my work with a corporate discount. I got a movie certificate from my Secret Santa at Christmas, and another friend gave me a movie gift card, and I got 2 movie passes for my birthday today. And all are from different movie theaters in my town, so I'll get a variety of free movies! I really shouldn't complain!
Sweet! I just finished my 11th and am almost finished with two more. And out of that 11, there are only a few that I haven't enjoyed... I think that's a good start to my year :)

Catherine - Happy Birthday! Enjoy those movie tickets:)What is shutter Island about? This sounds like something I should read?
Catherine, I agree too. I see someone read the book here and enjoyed it and if I have the book then I decide and pull it out. I found that yesterday with another book they talk about the series by Tara Janzen and I have the first one in the series so I pulled out it and started it but it's not probably going to be as fast as I hoped for the 12th book. So I started another book which also had alittle bigger print which is easier if I wake during the night to read. Then today I decided to go back and finish Blackbird house. It's like I dont' know which direction I want to go in for my main read. It's a hard decision. But I've been known to read more than 1 book at a time.
Jennifer wrote:What is shutter Island about? This sounds like something I should read? I am about 150 pages in so far and this is what I can tell you about it.
The story takes place in the mid 1950's on a small island that is both a mental institute and prison outside of Boston. An inmate escapes and the US Marshalls are called in, while they are there a hurricane is coming essentially trapping them. It also seems like there may be some sort of conspiracy too.
I am finding the book to be a slow mover. I usually have no trouble reading a book in one setting, but with this one it isn't the case. I am reading about a 100 pages a day. Enough to get into the story, but not too much to get bored. The story does seem to be on the darker side.
I really need to look back in my book journals to see if I ever read Shutter Island. At first I thought I still had it unread but it turned out it was another one of Lehane's books I have unread. So I need to see if I read shutter island when and if I didn't then I want to read it. Part of me thinks I read it.

The Shop on Blossom Street. I would really recommend this series, great characters and interesting story lines!

What did you think of Vision in White?
I've finished 21 so far. I'm in a YA challenge right now so my reading will be a little faster than normal, but with school starting up next week I may slow down. My favorite read so far this year has to be THE BOOK THIEF.
I am working on #12, but forgot to log two books, and they are gone, and forgotten. Nope, they were not memorable. Ah well. I will have to replace them with a few mysteries, since I can do two of those on a good day. The Case for God, on the other hand will take me a couple of weeks, easily, and I have a few more like that on my TBR list.
I have Visions in White I should pull it out to read soon. The second book is already out there for awhile.
I loved Vision in White and the second book in the series, Bed of Roses. They were both very sweet stories and, IMO, very similar to the Dream series...
I've finished #14 (In Over Her Head), #15 (Heart-Shaped Box: A Novel) and currently reading #16 (Creation in Death).
Vision in White is the first Nora Robert's book that I ventured a chance on. I really liked it. The story about the friends was interesting. The search for love... well, there wasn't one. It was more of a search for understanding how love wont ruin you.

The important part is to enjoy what you are reading. Also, now we have an incentive to read a little more. It doesn't matter who reaches 144 first or even if we reach it--just enjoy what you are reading. I admire those who dislike a book and stop reading. I have a hard time tossing a book I dislike away (I think I may miss something!) We can't read all that is our there nor all we would like to read. So enjoy the journey.
